Six Flagship Robot Vacuums Tested: Which One Earns a Place in Your Home?
We put six new flagship robot vacuums through rigorous testing to find the best performers for vacuuming, mopping, hair pickup, and smart features.
Introduction
The robot vacuum market moves fast. In the six months since our last roundup, every major brand has released a new flagship model, each promising better suction, smarter navigation, and more capable mopping. We gathered six of the most interesting new models from Roborock, Narwhal, Dreame, MOVA, Ecovacs, and 3i to see if any of them can unseat the previous champions: the Roborock Saros 10R and the Dreame X50 Ultra.
Our testing covered vacuuming on carpet and hard flooring, mopping performance in several real-world scenarios, hair pickup and tangle avoidance, object recognition, mapping, threshold climbing, and app and smart home integration. No sponsored reviews here, just hands-on results.
How We Tested
To measure vacuuming performance, we prepared a mixture of 10 grams each of rice, flax seed husks, salt, and flour to simulate different types of dirt and debris. Each vacuum ran on maximum suction with a vacuum-only, two-pass cleaning. We weighed the dust bins before and after each cleaning, and again after the auto-emptying process. Between tests, we thoroughly vacuumed with a corded upright.
For mopping, we simulated wet mud tracked in on shoes and dried on the floor. We spread 10 milliliters of mud over a two-foot by two-foot square, dried it with a hairdryer, and ran each robot on maximum water flow in two passes. We also tested corner mopping with hot sauce in five locations, and checked whether each robot could mop and vacuum a room with both carpet and hard floors without getting the carpet wet.

We also measured noise levels, energy consumption, and how well each robot handled hair, both long human hair and synthetic pet fluff. Object avoidance was tested with a pair of untied shoes, rubber dog poop, and a loose extension cord. Finally, we evaluated each robot’s app, voice assistant support, and local control options.
3i P10 Ultra
The 3i P10 Ultra is the least expensive vacuum in this group at $649. It’s a straightforward vacuum and mop with a fairly standard set of features, lacking the unique air-to-water refill system of 3i’s flagship S10.
In its 45-minute vacuuming run, the P10 Ultra used 26% of its battery and collected 25.6 grams, or 64%, of the debris mixture. After the auto-empty process, only 1.1 grams remained in the bin, and its small air filter was almost completely clean. On hard flooring, it scored 96%, and it tied for first place in our corner brush test with seven points, despite using a fairly traditional side brush design.
The P10 Ultra earned five points in object avoidance, avoiding the dog poop and shoes but tangling itself on the extension cord. It struggled with the 30mm flat threshold and couldn’t cross it. Its app is usable, but it doesn’t support room-specific voice commands with either Amazon Echo or Google Home.
Dreame L40S Ultra
The Dreame L40S Ultra, at $899, is considerably less expensive than the flagship X50 Ultra while keeping almost all of its features. The main differences are the lack of the retractable lidar turret and slightly lower suction at 19,000 pascals.
In testing, the L40S Ultra cleaned for 30 minutes and used 23% of its battery to pick up 25.4 grams, or 63.5%, of the debris mixture. After auto-empty, 4.8 grams remained, mostly caked into the air filter. On hard flooring, it scored 97.5%. Its corner mopping was very good, thanks to a new algorithm that stops, rotates, and extends the mop for maximum coverage.
The L40S Ultra kept the carpet completely dry during combined vacuum and mop runs by detaching its mopping pads at the station. It scored four points in object avoidance, getting a little too close to the dog poop with its side brush. It struggled with the 30mm flat threshold. Its app is well-polished, and it supports room-specific voice commands.
Narwhal Flow
The Narwhal Flow, priced at $1,299, is the highest-suction vacuum the brand has ever made at 22,000 pascals. In its 44-minute vacuuming run on high-pile carpet, it picked up 16.2 grams, or 40.5%, of the debris mixture, using only 20% of its battery. After auto-empty, just 0.6 grams remained, with a surprisingly clean air filter, indicating a very effective auto-empty system.
Where the Narwhal truly shines is mopping. It uses a new roller-style mopping system with an onboard clean and dirty water tank and a double-wide roller. In our dried mud test, it produced the first completely clean paper towel test we’ve ever recorded, and it replicated that perfect result on a second run. It also topped the corner mopping test, using its extra-wide extending roller to carefully hug corners and reach under furniture.
The Narwhal also excelled at hair pickup, cleaning up 100% of the hair and fluff in our extreme test with almost no tangles. However, it scored just three points in object avoidance, snagging on the cord and running over the dog poop multiple times. It also got the high-pile carpet wet during combined runs, and it used the most energy of any robot in the group at 0.412 kilowatt-hours per mopping run. Its Google Home integration didn’t work in our testing.
MOVA V50 Ultra Complete
The MOVA V50 Ultra Complete, at $1,399, is from a newer company that debuted at CES 2025 and shares a lot of technology with Dreame. It advertises a massive 24,000 pascals of suction, which helped it pick up 26.2 grams, or 65.5%, of the debris mixture, putting it in first place for carpet vacuuming. However, all that suction used 44% of its battery, and after auto-empty, a concerning 8.9 grams of debris remained, heavily caked into the air filter.
On hard flooring, the V50 scored 98.5%, and it was the only robot in the group able to cross both the ramp and flat sides of the 50mm threshold. It also earned a perfect score of six in object avoidance, keeping appropriate distances from each object. Its app is well-polished, and it supports room-specific voice commands.
However, the V50 had the worst corner mopping score, with a combination of poor edge detection and poor mop pad absorption. It also got the high-pile carpet wet during combined runs, and it was the first robot we’ve seen that decided the mud was too messy and chose to avoid a large portion of it on its first mopping pass.
Ecovacs X11 OmniCycle
The Ecovacs X11 OmniCycle, at $1,499, is the newest model from Ecovacs, following the X8 and X9. It has 19,500 pascals of suction, 1,500 more than the X8. Its carpet test was problematic: it got stuck under a couch multiple times, and it once reported completing its entire vacuuming task after only doing a perimeter clean. In 36 minutes of cleaning, it picked up just 20.5 grams, or 51.25%, of the debris mixture, putting it in second-to-last place.
On the positive side, the new bagless auto-empty system was very effective, leaving the bin and filter relatively clean with only one gram of leftover dust. On hard flooring, it scored 94.5%. It also managed to mop the floor and then travel directly onto the carpet without getting it wet, despite not having detachable mopping pads.
The X11 scored four points in object avoidance, successfully avoiding everything at first before running directly over the dog poop. It uses a front-facing lidar system, which should help it fit under more furniture, but it decided it couldn’t fit under stools with plenty of clearance. Its app has all the same features as the others but isn’t quite as easy to use. It does support Matter for local control.
Roborock Saros Z70
The Roborock Saros Z70 is the most technologically advanced robot vacuum on the market, priced at $2,599. It vacuums, mops, and features a five-axis mechanical arm that can recognize and move objects out of the way. Its 22,000 pascals of suction matches the lower-priced Saros 10R, but it uses a completely different brush roller system with recessed blades to avoid hair tangles.
In its 31-minute vacuuming run, the Z70 picked up 23.7 grams, or 59.25%, of the debris mixture, putting it in fourth place. After auto-empty, 2.7 grams remained, almost all caked into the air filter. On hard flooring, it recorded a perfect 100% score. It scored five points in object avoidance, avoiding the dog poop and shoes but moving the extension cord several times.
The Z70’s robotic arm is a mixed bag. The advertised use cases, like picking up used tissues and sorting socks, seem like personal hygiene problems that shouldn’t need a state-of-the-art vacuum to solve. The most realistic application might be a dog that leaves stuffed animals around, but for kids’ toys, it’s less likely to be able to pick up non-stuffed items.
The Z70’s StarSight navigation is in a league of its own, and at only 79mm tall, it’s the best option for cleaning under furniture. It kept the carpet completely dry during combined runs by detaching its mopping pads. It’s also the only robot with a full-featured Home Assistant integration, and it maintained all of its robotic arm functionality without an active internet connection, meaning all image processing is handled on the robot itself.

Hair Pickup and Tangle Avoidance
Hair tangles are a major pain point for robot vacuum owners, and these brands have developed four different solutions. The Dreame, MOVA, and Narwhal use tapered brush rollers connected on one side, so hair travels down the brush into the suction port. The Roborock uses recessed blades to cut tangled hair in half. The Ecovacs uses a detangling brush roller. The 3i has a blade on its base that runs across the brush roller before auto-empty.
In our first test with 30 strands of real 12-inch human hair, most vacuums performed well. The Narwhal came in first with no tangles at all. The Dreame and Roborock each had one stray piece in their wheel axle. The Ecovacs had two strands in its wheels. The 3i had more, tangled in the brush roller. The MOVA was mostly tangle-free but had issues with its auto-empty system dragging clumps of hair around.

In our more extreme test with synthetic 16-inch blue hair and cotton balls simulating pet fluff, the results were more dramatic. The Roborock basically didn’t clean any of the pet fluff and matted it into the carpet. The Dreame struggled too, likely seeing the fluff as obstacles. The Ecovacs left quite a bit behind. The MOVA did a respectable job. But the Narwhal cleaned up 100% of the hair and fluff with almost no tangles, the best performance we’ve ever recorded in this test.
Object Avoidance and Navigation
We set up a living room with a pair of untied shoes, rubber dog poop, and a loose extension cord to test object avoidance. The MOVA V50 earned the only perfect score of six, keeping appropriate distances from each object. The 3i and Roborock each scored five points, avoiding the dog poop and shoes but tangling with the cord. The Ecovacs and Dreame scored four points each, with the Ecovacs running directly over the dog poop. The Narwhal came in last with three points, snagging on the cord and running over the dog poop multiple times.

Navigation and mapping are also evolving. The Dreame and 3i still use traditional top-mounted lidar, while others have moved to front or rear sensors. In our testing, switching from 360-degree lidar ultimately decreased mapping and navigation efficiency. The Roborock’s StarSight navigation is in a league of its own, knowing exactly where it can and can’t clean. At 79mm tall, it has an additional 16mm of clearance over the Dreame and Narwhal, making it the best option for cleaning under furniture.
The Robotic Arm Question
The Roborock Saros Z70 is the first robot vacuum with a five-axis mechanical arm that can recognize and move objects out of the way. Our impressions are mixed. On one hand, it’s exciting to see new innovation. On the other hand, the advertised use cases, like picking up used tissues and sorting socks, seem like personal hygiene problems that shouldn’t need a state-of-the-art robotic vacuum to solve.
The most realistic application we can think of is a dog that leaves stuffed animals around, where the Z70 could put them all away in a central location before cleaning. But if it’s kids leaving toys around, the Z70 is less likely to be able to pick up non-stuffed animal toys. As a practical matter, teaching kids to put away their own toys is probably better than relying on a vacuum to do it.
Apps, Smart Home, and Privacy
The apps from 3i and Narwhal are usable, while MOVA, Dreame, and Roborock have nearly perfected their apps with a balance of ease of use and customizable features. The Ecovacs app falls in the middle, with all the same features but not quite as intuitive.
All the vacuums support Amazon Echo integrations, though the 3i doesn’t support room-specific cleaning. For Google Home, the only one that didn’t work at all was the Narwhal. The Roborock, Dreame, MOVA, and Ecovacs all support room-specific cleaning commands, while the 3i only supports on and off commands.
For Home Assistant users, the Roborock Z70 is the only one with a full-featured integration. For the first time in a long time, there’s also some form of local control via Matter integration for both Ecovacs and Roborock. This is a completely local connection that allows for some minimal customization and cleaning even when the vacuum is blocked from the internet. Impressively, the Roborock even maintained all of its robotic arm functionality without an active internet connection.
Overall Buying Advice
Looking at the total scores, none of these vacuums stand out as clear winners, with four coming in with an average score around three. The MOVA V50 Ultra Complete finished in first with an average of 2.9, thanks to its object avoidance and threshold crossing abilities. But at $1,399, it’s $200 more than the Dreame X50 Ultra, which has the same threshold crossing, object avoidance, and mopping, but better overall vacuuming scores.
The Roborock Saros Z70 had an average score of 3.2. But if you don’t need the robotic arm, which is a cool concept but ultimately not ready for prime time, then the Roborock Saros 10R has all the great parts of the Z70, like low furniture clearance, best-in-class navigation, and excellent smart home integrations, for less money. As a bonus, it also had better vacuuming scores and much better hair tangle avoidance.
Six months later, the Roborock Saros 10R is still the best all-around vacuum and mop on the market. However, the Narwhal Flow is the best mopping robot we have ever tested by a significant margin. Even though its overall score was just average, if your main goal is mopping and you don’t have high-pile carpet that needs to be vacuumed, the Narwhal Flow is an easy choice. The fact that it has great hair pickup and tangle avoidance is just an added bonus.
The Dreame L40S Ultra is also worth considering, since it’s basically a slightly more budget-friendly version of the X50 Ultra. If you don’t need things like the ultra-high threshold crossing ability or first-person remote control, the L40S Ultra gets you very similar performance for quite a bit less money.
Conclusion
This generation of robot vacuums shows impressive progress in specific areas, but no single model dominates across every test. The MOVA V50 Ultra Complete leads in vacuuming and object avoidance, the Narwhal Flow is unmatched at mopping, and the Roborock Saros Z70 pushes the boundaries of what a robot vacuum can do with its mechanical arm, even if that feature isn’t quite ready for everyday use.
For most people, the previous generation’s winners remain the smartest buys. The Roborock Saros 10R is still the best all-around option, and the Dreame X50 Ultra remains a strong alternative. But if you have specific needs, like exceptional mopping or the ability to cross unusually high thresholds, the Narwhal Flow and MOVA V50 Ultra Complete are worth a closer look.
