We tested 13 hidden camera detectors across range, wall detection, lens reflection, and GPS tracker finding. See which models performed best and which budget pick stands out.

How We Tested Hidden Camera Detectors
We ran every detector through the same series of tests. First, we measured the range at which each unit could detect an active Wi-Fi camera broadcasting from a charging brick. Then we moved the camera behind a wall and timed how long each detector took to locate it. We also tested each unit’s red light lens detection capability, both with lights on and in low light. Finally, we tested magnetic field detection for GPS trackers and RF detection for AirTags.

Each detector was tested on its highest sensitivity setting for the range test, then adjusted as needed for pinpointing. The camera was relocated between each test to ensure a fair comparison.
MG CM Hidden Camera Detector
The MG CM is the budget option at $20. It is a portable camera detector, bug detector, and GPS tracker detector with six claimed sensitivity levels. It is made in China.
In the range test, the MG CM only detected the camera from about 8 inches away. It did begin beeping faster as it got closer, but the short range was a significant limitation. Behind the wall, the MG CM struggled badly and failed to locate the camera after two minutes of trying. It also could not find the GPS tracker or the AirTag. Its red light was not bright enough to create a strong reflection off camera lenses.
Pulse Now Hidden Camera Detector
The Pulse Now costs $27 and is designed to find GPS trackers, listening devices, and cameras by detecting wireless RF signals or infrared signals. It offers 25 hours of working time from a rechargeable battery and can operate in silent or beep mode. It is made in China.
The Pulse Now had a range of about 4 feet on the highest setting, a significant improvement over the MG CM. The variable rate beeping helped zero in on the camera’s location. Behind the wall, it located the general proximity of the camera in about 30 seconds and then pinpointed it quickly. It detected the AirTag signal but could not locate the magnetic field on the GPS tracker. Its red light produced only a small reflection from camera lenses.
Seven Park Hidden Camera Detector
The Seven Park costs $27 and combines camera detection, GPS tracker detection, bug detection, and RF wireless signal scanning with five sensitivity levels. It is made in China.
The Seven Park has a steady beep rather than a variable rate alert, which makes pinpointing more difficult. Behind the wall, it still located the camera in around 30 seconds. It detected the GPS tracker only when positioned just right and did not locate the AirTag. It has both a red light and a sight glass, and it performed well at spotting camera lenses with the lights on.
Sun Tony Hidden Camera Detector
The Sun Tony costs $30 and is a hidden camera and GPS detector that also claims to detect eavesdropping devices. It has four detection modes, 25 hours of battery life, and a rechargeable battery. It is made in China.
The Sun Tony had a range of about 4 feet with two rates of beeping, which helped locate the camera. Behind the wall, it took around 30 seconds to find the camera after adjusting the sensitivity. It needed to be within an inch of the GPS tracker’s magnet but quickly found the precise location of the AirTag. Its large sight glass and bright red light made it the best performer at lens detection, creating a very bright reflection even with the lights on.
Obsidi Hidden Camera Detector
The Obsidi costs $38 and is a bug detector, spy camera finder, and GPS tracker detector with six sensitivity levels and a rechargeable battery. It is made in China.
The Obsidi has two rates of beeping, with the alert becoming more frequent as you get closer. Behind the wall, starting on a lower sensitivity setting helped, and the dual tone guided the user to the camera in about 20 seconds, the fastest time at that point. It needed very close proximity to the GPS tracker’s magnet but did a great job locating the AirTag. Its smaller sight glass and less bright light performed okay at lens detection, but not as well as the Sun Tony.
Abal Hidden Camera Detector
The Abal costs $40 and claims to use artificial intelligence and military-grade technology to find hidden cameras. It is compact and has a rechargeable battery. It is made in China.
Despite the claims, the Abal struggled significantly. It had to be within a few inches of the camera on the highest setting and performed the same on the lowest setting. It has only one rate of beeping regardless of distance. Behind the wall, it located the camera in about 20 seconds, helped by the camera being only 10 feet from the starting point. It could locate the GPS tracker’s magnetic field but not the AirTag. Its red light produced very little reflection from camera lenses.
Ador Hidden Camera Detector
The Ador costs $40 and claims to contain advanced technology to quickly and accurately locate surveillance devices. It has an LED signal strength window. It is made in China.
The Ador’s sensitivity level did not seem to matter, and its maximum range was about 3 feet. It has a dual rate beep but seemed to almost always produce a fast beep. Behind the wall, with sensitivity set very low, it sensed the camera and allowed quick pinpointing. It did not detect magnetic fields but made easy work of detecting the AirTag. It does not have a sight glass, and its lens detection performance was weak.
Schmok Hidden Camera Detector
The Schmok costs $48 and has three detection functions: camera detection, hidden device detection, and magnetic field detection. It claims five sensitivity levels and four professional modes. It is made in China.
On the highest sensitivity setting, the Schmok detected the camera from about 4 feet away. It has a dual rate beep and a solid tone when very close. Behind the wall, with low sensitivity, it took just under 20 seconds to locate the camera. It struggled to detect the GPS tracker’s magnet but performed well at detecting the AirTag. It has a built-in sight glass, but its red light was not as powerful as the Sun Tony’s.
Nav Falcon Hidden Camera Detector
The Nav Falcon costs $50 and claims an upgraded smart chip for faster detection speed and better accuracy. It is a camera detector, GPS finder, and infrared camera detector with a standby time of up to 30 days after charging. It is made in China.
The Nav Falcon has a dial for adjusting sensitivity, but the adjustment was very abrupt, going from detecting nothing to detecting everything. Behind the wall, starting with very low sensitivity helped, and it located the camera in around 20 seconds. It did not detect magnets but did a great job detecting the AirTag. It has a built-in sight glass and a very bright red light, performing just as well as the Sun Tony at lens detection.
Unilo Hidden Camera Detector
The Unilo costs $70 and claims 20 to 45 hours of working time, the latest generation of AI chips, infrared light, and laser sensing detection. It is made in China.
The Unilo reacted very quickly to the camera’s proximity and had a noticeably faster processing speed than most other brands. Behind the wall, it provided almost immediate feedback and zeroed in on the camera in about 15 seconds. It performed by far the best at detecting the GPS tracker’s magnet but was not able to detect the AirTag. It does not have a sight glass, and its red light was not very bright, so it struggled at lens detection.
Jackson Hidden Camera Detector
The Jackson costs $120 and claims professional quality with artificial intelligence auto scan, a magnetic GPS tracker, an infrared camera finder, and an LED display. It has a fast charging battery. It is made in China.
The Jackson has 10 signal strength bars in addition to tone, which really helped hone in on the camera’s location. Its range was about 4 feet. Behind the wall, it made easy work of locating the camera in about 20 seconds, even though the signal bars were hard to see in sunlight. It did not locate the GPS tracker’s magnetic field but successfully located the AirTag. It has a built-in sight glass and performed very well at lens detection, creating a very visible reflection even in low light.
Kakuya Hidden Camera Detector
The Kakuya costs $142 and contains dual detection capability, detecting magnetic fields and electromagnetic waves simultaneously. It is equipped with imported ultra-sensitive chips. It is made in China.
The Kakuya has six signal strength lights on each side and three sensitivity settings, which helped hone in on the camera’s location. It is large, resembling a flashlight, but performed well. Behind the wall, it located the camera in about 10 seconds, helped by starting close to the hidden camera. It did by far the best job at detecting the GPS tracker and also did a great job at detecting the AirTag. It comes with a separate device with a sight glass and red light, performing just as well as the Jackson at lens detection.
JMD8000 Hidden Camera Detector
The JMD8000 costs $160 and claims to be a professional hidden camera and bug detector. Its AI detection mode enhances signal detection, and it triggers an alert when five suspicious signals of the same frequency are detected. It also detects microphones. It is made in China.
The JMD8000 was the best performer overall. It has a variable tone that increases in frequency as it hones in on the camera, and a dial for very quick adjustments. There is a small learning curve, but it is the most capable detector tested. Behind the wall, it found the camera in less than 15 seconds. It performed very well at detecting both the GPS tracker’s magnetic field and the AirTag. It includes a separate device with a sight glass and red light, performing just as well as the Jackson and Kakuya at lens detection.
Lens Detection Performance
Camera lenses contain multiple glass elements and coatings that create a bright, concentrated reflection. Red light detectors use this to spot cameras that are not actively transmitting. We tested each detector’s red light and sight glass with the lights on and in low light.
The Sun Tony performed by far the best, creating a very bright reflection even with the lights on. The Nav Falcon, Jackson, Kakuya, and JMD8000 also performed very well. The MG CM, Abal, Ador, and Unilo struggled, producing weak reflections. The Pulse Now, Seven Park, Obsidi, and Schmok performed moderately.

GPS Tracker and AirTag Detection
We tested each detector’s ability to find a mini GPS tracking device hidden inside a hay bale, as well as an Apple AirTag. The GPS tracker requires a SIM card to work, but we tested whether the detectors could locate it even without one.
The Kakuya and JMD8000 performed best at magnetic field detection, with the Unilo in third place. Most detectors successfully located the AirTag, but the MG CM, Seven Park, Abal, and Unilo were not successful. The JMD8000 came in first place in every category of testing. It is a really impressive hidden camera detector, but it has a steeper learning curve and is very expensive at around $160. The Kakuya finished in second place with an average finish of 1.3, but it is very large and not the most practical for travel.
If you are looking for a compact detector that also works well, the Sun Tony is a strong choice. Its average finish of 3.2 is very good considering the price of around $30, making it the budget pick. The Jackson also performed well, finishing in second place in the first test with a rating of 1.5, and it offers a good balance of features and performance at $120.

Conclusion
