Introduction

Most Class A motorhomes promise luxury, but very few genuinely deliver it at the level of a Newell Coach. The 2022 Newell Coach we spent time with is a 45-foot ultra-luxury motorcoach that carries a brand-new price above $2 million, yet it feels less like an RV and more like a hand-built residence on wheels. Newell constructs its chassis from the ground up in Oklahoma, and that from-scratch approach shows up everywhere, from the headroom to the slide room design to the way the coach simply feels on the road.

This particular unit uses a unique floor plan with a Murphy bed and triple bunks, and it was listed at $1.65 million as a couple-of-years-old coach, considerably under its roughly $2.3 million new price. If you want the very top of the motorcoach market, this is the reference point.

Why Newell Sits at the Top

The headline hardware is serious. Power comes from a Cummins X15 diesel with 605 horsepower, paired with an Allison 4000 series transmission. The coach weighs around 60,000 pounds, and Newell rates it for a 25,000-pound towing capacity. Newell also claims the most headroom, the biggest slide rooms, and the most living space in the luxury motorcoach industry.

A few design choices set it apart from typical motorhomes:

  • Air leveling instead of jacks. At roughly 60,000 pounds, conventional leveling jacks could punch through asphalt or concrete, so this coach uses a full air leveling system. Press a button and it levels itself, and it does not rock when you move around inside.
  • Rounded slide rooms. Many RVs use squared slide edges that catch your head or shoulder. Newell’s Val slide rooms are rounded, carry the wrap-around paint with metallics and drop shadows through the slides, and use an air seal that deflates to let the slide move, then inflates to keep outside noise out and the cabin cooler.
  • A camera on the fuel bay door. When pulling up to a fuel pump, the camera helps you align the stainless, well-lit fuel bay with the pump. The DEF fill sits right next to the diesel fill.
  • Twin air compressors and air doors, plus an external control panel with air release valves, and a 20 kW generator that comfortably runs the coach including the rooftop air conditioners.

Inside: Custom Floor Plan and Finishes

Step through the air-sealed front entry door (past a doorbell with a camera) and the interior immediately makes its case. The seating area uses captain’s chairs with double diamond stitching, an adjustable table that moves up and down and in and out, and generous countertop space across the opposite side. RGB lighting throughout the ceiling and valances can change color to match a sports team or a holiday mood.

Details matter here. The televator television sits directly across from the seating area, so nobody has to watch at an awkward 90-degree angle, and the veining in the countertop runs continuously through the top of the televator cabinet. It is the kind of subtle craftsmanship that justifies the price tag. A full-size refrigerator blends seamlessly into the cabinetry behind pocket air doors, and the half bath means guests do not need to walk through your private space.

Sleeping Arrangements: Murphy Bed and Triple Bunks

This floor plan is built for flexibility. The Murphy bed folds down when needed and folds away when it is not, opening up the rear living space. Two TVs flank the Murphy bed, one on each side, so the space works as a family lounge during the day and a bedroom at night. That layout is popular with NASCAR drivers whose families ride along while they are racing, and it works just as well for anyone hosting guests.

For taller travelers, the coach is a little longer than many floor plans, and there is plenty of room. A 5-foot-10 adult fits easily, and taller people would too.

Bath-and-a-Half Practicality

The bath-and-a-half layout is one of the most livable choices in this coach. Guests can use the half bath while the owners keep the privacy of the full rear bathroom. The full bath features an underlit countertop, top-tier finishes down to the sink, and a genuinely large shower area. A washer and dryer are built in as well, with a spot above for detergent and folding doors that make loading and unloading easier.

On the Road: How It Drives

This is where the Newell genuinely surprised us. The ZF suspension, similar in character to Mercedes-Benz setups, combined with an active steer tag axle that turns along with the front wheels, makes a 45-foot coach feel remarkably nimble. It maneuvered out of a tight showroom gate without needing the expected multi-point turn.

Steering is smooth, and there is a feature we had not seen anywhere else: turn the steering wheel fully left, let go, and the wheel returns to center on its own. The diesel engine sits 45 feet behind you, so the cabin is impressively quiet, and full-throttle acceleration moves all 60,000 pounds with smooth, unshakeable progress from the Allison 4000 series transmission. There is no harsh shifting, just steady, confident acceleration.

Two things to remember at the wheel: stopping distances on a 60,000-pound machine require you to stay well ahead of traffic, and the coach stands 13 feet 5 inches tall, with a height diagram on the dash to remind you before any low bridge.

Should You Buy One?

A Newell Coach is not a casual purchase. At $1.65 million for this used example, it competes only with other ultra-luxury coaches, and within that small field Newell is widely regarded as the best on the road. You are paying for the hand-built Oklahoma chassis, the most living space in the segment, custom paintwork with wrap-around metallics, and details most manufacturers never consider.

If you travel full time, entertain guests, or want a coach that feels more like a private jet on the highway, this is as good as it gets in the RV world. If you just want a weekend getaway vehicle, this much coach is more than most buyers will ever need.

Conclusion

The 2022 Newell Coach with the Murphy bed and triple bunk floor plan is the rare motorhome that lives up to its price. Cummins X15 muscle, air leveling, rounded painted slide rooms, a bath-and-a-half, built-in laundry, and interior craftsmanship that borders on bespoke make it the Rolls-Royce of motorcoaches. For buyers at the top of the market, it sets the standard everything else is measured against.
