Wuben X5 Review: An EDC Flashlight That's Actually Easy to Use

A laser, two LEDs, UV light, and a charging-cable lanyard packed into one EDC flashlight that manages to stay simple to operate.

Introduction

Wuben has built a reputation for packing a surprising amount of functionality into small everyday carry lights, and the X5 continues that trend. This one combines two LED light sources, a Class 3R laser, a UV mode, and a built-in USB charging port, all controlled through what turns out to be one of the simpler interfaces we have encountered on a feature-rich EDC flashlight. After spending time with it in both daylight and full darkness, the standout impression is how little effort it takes to figure out. Everything below is based on hands-on use without reading the manual first, which is exactly how most people will use a flashlight.

Design and Build

The X5 is compact, lightweight, and noticeably sturdy. The front end houses the laser and two LEDs, while the top features a USB charging port that feels well protected, a detail that many similar lights handle poorly. The clip mounts securely, and an IP65 water resistance rating means it can handle rain and splashes without concern.

The included lanyard deserves special mention: it is a heavy-duty woven strap that also functions as the charging cable. The design feels rock solid in hand, and it doubles as a handle for carrying. The only long-term question is durability, since using the same cord as both a cable and a handle puts more stress on it than either role alone.

Output and Specifications

The brightness levels are clearly labeled on the back of the light. Turbo reaches 1,300 lumens, High is 350, Medium is 150, Low is 50, and Eco drops all the way to 1 lumen for close-up tasks or preserving night vision. Strobe runs at 1,000 lumens. The laser is a Class 3R unit, which is more powerful than the Class 1 lasers found in many tools, so it deserves respectful handling and should never be pointed at eyes.

Inside is a 1,200 mAh, 3.7 V battery rated at 4.44 Wh. It is a flat pack rather than the cylindrical cells common in larger lights, and it slides out easily without tools, which makes eventual replacement straightforward.

Modes and Everyday Operation

The controls are the best part of this light. A rotary wheel at the rear selects between light mode, UV mode, and a locked center position. The top has a dual-stage tactile button: pressing halfway activates a momentary output, and pressing through to a full click latches it on. The lower button controls the laser, and the upper button controls the light.

UV mode is selectable from the same wheel and runs at a single output with no sub-modes, which keeps things simple. Notably, the laser can be used at the same time as the flashlight, so you can point and illuminate simultaneously.

The real test was operating the light in complete darkness without seeing anything. Thanks to the wheel layout and the clear division between the two buttons, every mode was reachable by feel within seconds. Double-clicking from the light modes brings up strobe. There are no hidden two-click, three-click combinations to memorize, which is a genuine relief compared with most EDC lights in this class.

Eco mode turned out to be unexpectedly useful in the dark, providing just enough light to navigate without ruining adapted night vision.

Charging and Battery

Charging is simple and fast. Using a 5 V, 1.2 amp source, the X5 reaches a full charge in about 1.5 hours. A red indicator shows charging in progress and switches to blue when the battery is full. The USB port cover feels solid and seals confidently, supporting the IP65 rating. The removable flat battery pack is easy to take out and put back, which adds flexibility for anyone who carries a spare.

Who Should Buy It

The Wuben X5 suits anyone who wants a genuinely multi-functional EDC light without a steep learning curve. If you value a laser pointer, a UV light, and a capable flashlight in one pocketable body, and you do not want to study a manual to use them, this is an easy recommendation.

Things to Consider Before Buying

The Class 3R laser requires care, as it is significantly more powerful than Class 1 units. The charging-cable lanyard is clever but may be a long-term wear point if used constantly as a handle. And if you prefer standard cylindrical replaceable cells, the flat pack battery format is a different approach, even though it is easy to swap.

Conclusion

The Wuben X5 might be one of the easiest-to-use hardcore EDC flashlights we have handled. It is feature-rich on paper yet intuitive in practice: usable blind in the dark, quick to charge, well sealed against water, and thoughtfully designed from the wheel selector to the dual-stage button. For a pickup-and-go everyday light with a few tricks up its sleeve, it stands out as one of Wuben’s strongest recent releases.
