Tomtac Navigator T67 vs T66: Is the Updated 40L Duffel Backpack Worth the Extra Cost?
A side-by-side look at the updated Tomtac Navigator T67 against the original T66, covering capacity, hardware, pockets, and carry system changes to help you pick the right one.
Introduction
The Tomtac Navigator has built a reputation as a very good 40-liter duffel backpack at a strong price. The company has now refreshed the line with the T67, a version aimed at addressing some of the criticisms of the original T66. To see what actually changed, this comparison looks at both bags side by side after carrying the T67 as a carry-on on a Delta Airlines trip.
The short version: these are minor, incremental updates. The T67 brings higher quality hardware, new webbing straps, revised carry handles, a changed luggage pass-through, a lighter interior fabric, and small tweaks to the front and side pockets. If you already own the T66, there is nothing groundbreaking here. If you are choosing between the two, the differences in pocket layout matter more than the hardware.

Capacity Test: How Big Is the T67 Really?
The original T66 is listed at 40 liters, but it never quite delivered that capacity. A fill test with packing peanuts got only about 35 liters into the T66.
The T67 is listed at 38 liters. Transferring the same 35 liters of packing peanuts into the new bag, it filled the pack with a little room still left at the top. Adding just under 2 more liters brought it to essentially full. In practical terms, the T67 behaves like a 37-liter pack, a small but real gain over the T66.
Materials and Hardware Upgrades
The fabric appears to be the same across both versions: a midweight polyester that is decent but nothing fancy. The T67 drops the small waterproof TPU-coated flap over the opening, and the main fabric looks identical otherwise.
The real updates come in the webbing and hardware. The T67 upgrades to higher quality seat belt style webbing throughout the pack and adds a PALS webbing strap on the front for attaching extra gear. The zippers are still YKK, but in a different style that works better with the new design. The buckles are upgraded to higher quality Duraflex components, and the second buckle on the compression strap is gone, leaving just a strap.

External Features and Pocket Changes
The overall design stays the same: a basic duffel-style bag with a large side-opening top zipper flap. The branding is much subtler now, with a small black T imprinted on the front instead of a contrasting logo. The flap over the duffel opening that gave the old bag extra protection is replaced with a straight zipper that is easier to access.
The top quick-access pocket is essentially identical. One of the biggest changes is the front pocket: the T66 uses a slim side-access pocket, while the T67 switches to top access with basically the same size. Neither is objectively better. The top-access orientation does make it easy to reach the pocket while the bag is standing upright, which some will prefer.
On the side pockets, the T66 has two matching water bottle pockets. The T67 keeps one large stretchy pocket that fits a decent-sized bottle, though a one-liter Nalgene is a bit of a stretch, and replaces the second bottle pocket with a slim side-access zipper pocket suitable for a travel wallet or other small items. For anyone who rarely carries two bottles, the extra small-gear organization is a welcome trade.

Carry System and Luggage Pass-Through
The shoulder straps are basically the same, with the T67 gaining that seat belt style webbing. The back padding on the new bag is slightly thicker, which makes it a bit more comfortable to carry.
The luggage pass-through changes orientation from vertical on the T66 to horizontal on the T67. That is a practical improvement: the bag can sit vertically over a rolling luggage handle, keeping your gear easier to reach. The top carry handle on the T67 is thinner, sleeker, and slightly larger, though the new bag loses the small unpadded side handle. The cleaner look comes at a small cost in functionality.
Laptop Compartment and Interior Design
Both bags use the same style of large zipper that opens the laptop compartment completely, separate from the main compartment. The design is virtually identical: a gray interior fabric pocket with access into the main compartment, a laptop sleeve, and a tablet sleeve. The only real difference is the fuzzy lining in the T67’s laptop compartment, a good addition.

Inside the main compartment, neither bag has pockets or organization at all. The T67’s upgrade here is a lighter gray interior fabric compared to the all-black interior of the T66, which makes gear easier to see. Both include a foldable panel that gives structure to the bottom and helps the bag stay open and upright. The T67 adds a small firmer panel in the top lid side, so it holds itself open noticeably better than the floppier lid on the old bag. One missed opportunity: a small pocket on the inside lid would have given this organization-free interior at least one place for small gear.
Which One Should You Buy?
The T67 justifies its slightly higher cost mainly through the upgrades in materials, hardware, and zippers, but the pocket orientation changes mean the hardware alone should not decide the purchase. The overall design is largely the same.
The biggest deciding factors are the front pocket and the side pockets. If you prefer a side-zipper front pocket and two water bottle pockets, go with the T66. If you prefer a top-facing front pocket and a slim side pocket instead of a second bottle pocket, the T67 is the better fit.
Conclusion
The Tomtac Navigator T67 is a thoughtful, incremental update: better hardware and webbing, a slightly larger usable capacity, a more comfortable back panel, a smarter luggage pass-through, and a laptop sleeve with fuzzy lining. It does not reinvent the bag, and it skips interior organization entirely. Choose based on pocket layout, and either version remains one of the more sensible duffel backpack options in its class.
