Introduction

Finding a work-memo planner that is small, tough, and pleasant to use every day is harder than it sounds. The Reimei Fujii Davinci Grande All Earth Pocket Just Refill Size system planner aims to tick all three boxes with vegetable-tanned steerhide and a pocket format that slips into a shirt chest pocket. This review covers the unboxing, setup, and honest impressions after a full month of daily use.

First Impressions and Build Quality

The planner arrives in a simple box, wrapped carefully in thin paper. Inside you also get a warranty card, an instruction manual, and a cleaning cloth that genuinely brings out a shine when you buff the leather.

The cover is made from steerhide tanned 100% with plant-based tannins by Japanese craftsmen. No pigment is used for coloring; the leather is dye-finished, which is what gives it such a beautiful, natural tone. The smell is wonderful too, in the way only real vegetable-tanned leather can be.

Out of the box, the soft, slightly moist-feeling texture is immediately likeable. Color options are black, dark brown, and brown. The price is 13,200 yen including tax, and it tends to be available at a discount on Amazon.

Refills, Pockets and Ring Setup

A refill set is included, so the planner is usable straight away. The starter pack contains: a personal profile sheet with pressing on the front, one bookmark, 14 monthly schedule sheets, 20 note sheets, 10 checklist sheets, and one back cover sheet.

The interior is deliberately simple: three pockets on the left side and one on the right. The ring diameter is 11mm, and there is a movable pen holder that accepts pens up to 14mm in shaft diameter.

One thing to know upfront: this Just Refill size does not include a ring guard. Over long-term use, ring marks may start to show on the front cover. It is a trade-off worth weighing if you prefer planners with ring protection.

What I Use It For

This planner was bought as a dedicated work memo book, replacing a non-leather keyword notebook that could take abuse but lacked durability. The contents transfer over almost entirely from the old one.

The Just Refill size is smaller than a standard pocket size and fits neatly into a shirt chest pocket, which makes it very convenient for quick notes on the go.

It slots into a wider planner setup: a Davinci Roma Classic bible-size planner as the main scheduler and goal tracker, a Reimei Fujii A5 idea notebook holding Noble Note paper, and a small Ashford M5 wallet-planner for carrying on outings. For the pen, a single-color Pelican ballpoint was chosen, since at least one red-capable option is nice for memos, and multi-pen options like the Jetstream Prime 2+1 remain on the table.

One practical caveat: because it is Just Refill size, refills other than Reimei Fujii’s dedicated ones are slightly too large. A Noble Note refill sticks out a little and interferes with the pen holder. Usable refill options are limited, which is a real drawback.

One Month In: What I Liked and What to Watch

After a month of daily use, the leather has already started to develop a bit of sheen. The good points: simple and beautiful feel, great texture, lovely scent, a size that is just right for work, and the enjoyment of watching it age.

On the watch list: because there is no belt or strap, the cover does not close flush and floats open a bit when set down. Softer leather with more use may close better over time. Ring marks have not yet become noticeable despite the missing ring guard, and that is something to keep tracking long term.

Conclusion

The Davinci Grande All Earth Pocket Just Refill is a simple, well-made, practical leather planner that suits daily work memos and rewards patience as the leather ages. The limited refill compatibility and missing ring guard are the main caveats, but for fans of vegetable-tanned leather in a genuinely pocketable format, it is easy to recommend.
