Papier Plume Water Gardens: A Watery Teal with Copper Shimmer
A limited edition fountain pen ink inspired by the Fort Worth Water Gardens, offering a green-leaning teal with a medium copper shimmer.
Introduction
Papier Plume has a long tradition of releasing limited edition inks themed around cities that host fountain pen shows. This time the inspiration comes from a location near the Dallas pen show: the Water Gardens, a striking water-themed park in downtown Fort Worth, Texas. Named simply Water Gardens, the ink is available at the show itself, with any remaining bottles moving to the company website a few days after the event ends. These limited editions tend to sell out fairly quickly, so if the color appeals to you, it is worth acting early.
First Impressions: Color and Shimmer
Water Gardens is a green-blue ink with a copper shimmer. Out of the bottle, it reads as a teal that leans more green than blue, and the shimmer sits at the bottom of the bottle until you give it a good shake. Once suspended, it behaves like most shimmer inks: it fades from view as you write, then settles again over time.

A nice touch is the wax seal on the cap, which is color-matched to the copper shimmer inside. It is a small detail, but it makes the bottle feel considered. The park itself has appeared in films and music videos over the years, including an appearance shortly after its opening, and the ink captures that sense of moving water surprisingly well.
How It Performs on Paper
On Tomoe River 52 gsm paper, the teal comes through cleanly, and drops of ink really bring out the shimmer. Compared with Sailor Yama-dori, a personal favorite, Water Gardens sits slightly lighter on the spectrum while sharing some of the same character. It also sits comfortably alongside Diamine’s sandalwood tones and Three Oysters Marine Green in a side-by-side comparison.

On Rhodia 80 gsm paper, ghosting is fairly low and bleed is low too, which is impressive for such a wet ink. Shading lands around medium to high depending on the nib, sheen is medium to low, and the shimmer sits at a medium level, which is a sweet spot for anyone who finds heavy shimmer inks distracting.
Nib and Pen Pairings
Testing covered a range of pens: a broad 3.8 mm Pilot Parallel for swatches, plus three dark pens with different nib characteristics. A Platinum medium nib that behaves closer to an extra fine produced very fine lines, a medium nib in another pen was similarly fine in practice, and a Pilot Falcon flex medium added some pleasant natural line variation.
Because the ink is wet, fine nibs keep the shimmer subtle, while broader and flex nibs let the copper particles and shading show up more prominently. If you own a broad or italic nib, this ink is a good excuse to use it.
Drying Time and Ink Behavior
The flow is genuinely wet, and drying times reflect that. With an extra fine nib, ink dried in just over five seconds. With a medium nib, drying took closer to 15 to 30 seconds, so left-handed writers may want to factor that in.

Water Resistance and Chromatography
The ink makes no claim to be waterproof, but it held up better than expected in a water test. Some of the darker blue tones resisted the water, so a small spill blotted quickly leaves the writing largely salvageable.

The chromatography is genuinely attractive: the ink separates into purples, blues, greens, and yellows, with the shimmer staying anchored at the bottom of the strip. It is one of the more interesting separations you will see from a teal ink.
Buying Advice
The bottles are priced at $15, and stock is typically available at the Dallas show first, with leftover bottles appearing on the Papier Plume website in the following days. Given how quickly these limited editions sell out, ordering early is the safer bet if you miss the show.
Conclusion
Papier Plume Water Gardens is a pleasant watery teal with a medium copper shimmer, low bleed and ghosting on quality paper, and better water resistance than its label suggests. The matched wax seal is a charming finishing touch. If a green-leaning teal with subtle sparkle fits your palette, this limited edition is a worthwhile pickup before it disappears.
