Knipex 90 22 10 Pipe Cutter Review: A Ratcheting Cutter Built for Thin-Wall Plastic Pipe
A reversible-blade pipe cutter designed for Australian and European plumbing pipe, with spare blades on board and limits worth knowing before you buy.
Introduction
The Knipex 90 22 10 is a ratcheting pipe cutter aimed squarely at the Australian and European plumbing markets, where pipe standards differ from those used in the United States. It has picked up plenty of attention on social platforms, and after putting it through a range of cuts, the picture is clear: it is excellent within its rated range, workable slightly beyond it, and the wrong tool for some jobs entirely.
What the Knipex 90 22 10 Is Designed For
This cutter is rated for 3/4-inch up to 2-inch plastic pipe with a wall thickness of 3/32 of an inch. That covers the typical thin-wall plumbing pipe found under kitchen and bathroom sinks in residential settings, which is roughly a 1/16 of an inch thick.
Using it is simple. You position the pipe, apply a light score around it with the blade, and then continue the ratcheting action until the cut completes. On thin-wall pipe the result is a clean, straight cut with minimal effort, and the ratchet mechanism keeps the process controlled.

Reversible Blade and Built-In Spare Blade Storage
Two design details set this cutter apart. First, the blade is reversible: when the primary cutting corner wears out, you can flip the blade around to expose a fresh edge. Second, a small drawer in the handle pulls out to reveal a cubby holding two additional spare blades, so the tool ships with three blades in total.
Used as a center cutter, that adds up to effectively six blade changes before you need replacements. There is also a conversion option: the blade holder can be reversed so the blade sits on the outside, turning the tool into a flush cutter for cutting closer to a surface.

One Limitation Worth Knowing
The factory edge on the blade carries a bevel, which leaves a slight lip on the outside of the cut. That matters if you plan to slide slip washers and nuts over the pipe for push-fit style connections, because the leftover edge can interfere. Both Knipex and Ridgid make pipe cutters with a beveling action specifically for that purpose, and even Knipex does not position this model for that job. If slip-washer connections are your main use case, this is not the cutter for it.
Cutting Thicker Schedule 40 Pipe: What Works and What Doesn’t
Out of curiosity, the cutter was tested beyond its rating. On 1.5-inch cellular core ABS and solid PVC Schedule 40 pipe with a 5/32-inch wall (a 1/16 over the rating), it does cut. Cellular core cuts remarkably easily. Solid core PVC is a grind and requires real pressure, but a good straight track is achievable.

The leftover lip on these thicker cuts is more pronounced, so a separate deburring tool such as a Reed DEB 4 is needed to chamfer the edge properly. Attempting 2-inch Schedule 40 with roughly a 3/16-inch wall is a step too far: the cut bottoms out with no blade left protruding, and the tool will not cut through.
The takeaway: 5/32-inch wall is the practical ceiling, and solid core PVC is better handled with a purpose-built cutter.

Buying Advice
If you work with Australian or European standard thin-wall plastic pipe, or you regularly cut thin-wall residential drain pipe under sinks, this cutter is a strong pick. The reversible blade, three included blades, and flush-cut conversion make it a genuinely versatile small tool that should last a long time before blades need replacing.
Skip it if your main jobs are solid core PVC, heavy Schedule 40 pipe, or connections that depend on a beveled cut edge for slip washers. Those tasks need different tools, and forcing this one beyond its limits either takes far too long or does not finish the job at all.
Conclusion
The Knipex 90 22 10 does exactly what it is designed to do very well: fast, clean, straight cuts in thin-wall plastic pipe up to 2 inches, with smart blade management built in. Know its limits on wall thickness and connection prep, and it is a tool that earns its spot in the bag.
