Hightide Resonance Pen Cases: Resonate vs Round Zip Compared
Two new pen cases from Hightide's Resonance series compared in detail: a high-capacity organizer and a slim everyday zip case.
Introduction
Hightide, a stationery and goods maker based in Hiroshima, Japan, is known for pen cases that make generous use of leather and Okayama denim fabrics. The brand launched a new series called Resonance, and two pen cases from it have now arrived: the Resonate Pen Case and the Round Zip Pen Case. Both are nylon, both come in the same four colors, and both are very reasonably priced for what they offer.
Design and First Impressions
Visually, both cases share a calm, understated look. They are not flashy, which makes them easy to recommend to students and working adults alike. The color range covers black, navy, brown, and gray, with the pull tabs matched automatically to the case color. A small woven “Resonance” label is stitched near the bottom right corner of each case.

The materials feel pleasant in the hand. The nylon construction is soft rather than stiff, and that softness turns out to matter more than expected once you start loading pens in and out.
Resonate Pen Case: Organization and Capacity
The Resonate is the organizer of the pair. It has a zipper on the front face with its own storage space, plus two more compartments inside, for three storage areas in total. That is a lot of capacity in a case that stays reasonably compact.
Inside the main opening, the left side holds four pens in individual rubber slots. The rubber runs the full length of the slots, so slim pens and thicker ones are both held firmly, and the pens never touch each other, which protects clips and finishes from scuffs. In testing, thick-bodied pens slid in smoothly, as did slim pens, so the range of compatible pen diameters is impressively wide.

The right side has a pocket for pens, a ruler, or a slim pointing stick, with three shorter rubber holders underneath sized for an eraser or a small pen case. A ruler around 15 centimeters long goes in and out without any fuss. The second zipper compartment is a good home for small items like sticky notes, correction tape, or clips. The soft nylon also means you can hold it down while zipping, keeping pens away from the zipper teeth.
Round Zip Pen Case: Slim and Simple
The Round Zip takes a different approach. It has a single main zipper and a much cleaner, simpler design. Inside, the left side is a zippered pocket for pens and small items; in practice it swallows sticky notes, correction tape, scissors, and even a USB cable with room to spare.
The right side has a pen-and-ruler slot section similar in layout to the Resonate, though not divided into two parts. Because the Round Zip is wider than the Resonate, that slot section holds around three to four pens. The typical use pattern is pens in the slots and everything else in the zippered pocket.

The trade-off is thickness. The Round Zip is slim, which means it stays discreet in a bag, but pack it too full and it bulges noticeably. It still closes, but it looks strained. This is a case that rewards a small, carefully chosen set of daily tools rather than a full kit.
Worth Knowing Before You Buy
There is one quirk worth flagging, and it applies to the Resonate. When closing the main zipper, the inner net of the front zipper pocket can catch in the zipper teeth. If that pocket is loaded with items, the snag rate during testing was fairly high. It is a minor annoyance, but it is the single most notable drawback of an otherwise well-sorted design. Keeping the front pocket lightly packed, or tucking the net down before zipping, helps.
Which One Should You Buy?
Both cases are genuinely good, so the choice comes down to how you carry your tools. The Resonate is the better pick if you like everything sorted into its own place and want serious capacity for pens plus small items. The Round Zip is the better pick if you prefer a slim, unobtrusive case and are happy keeping a tighter edit of what you carry.

If you genuinely cannot decide, both are affordable enough that picking up both is a reasonable option. As a personal preference, the Resonate edges ahead for everyday use simply because it holds more, and it earns the spot as a daily driver.
Conclusion
Hightide’s Resonance series delivers two well-executed pen cases with distinct personalities: a high-capacity, neatly divided organizer and a slim, simple zip case. Choose the Resonate for capacity and organization, the Round Zip for minimalism, and either way you are getting a thoughtfully made case at a friendly price.
