X Wallet Patriot and Forged Carbon Fiber: Modular Wallets Worth a Look

Two X Wallet plates, one wallet: a modular RFID-blocking aluminum wallet with swappable plates, a cash strap, money clip, and a tracker bundle option.

Two minimalist metal wallets with aluminum and forged carbon fiber plates on concrete

Introduction

X Wallet is the new name for Armor Supply Company, and the change did not mean a redesign from scratch. The wallet design carried over intact, and the new lineup arrives with two cover plate options: the Patriot in gunmetal or black aluminum, and a forged carbon fiber version. Both share the same core wallet, so this piece covers both and where they differ.

What the X Wallet Is

This is a sandwich-style minimalist wallet made from 6061 T6 aluminum, which naturally blocks RFID. It holds between one and 12 cards plus cash, and each wallet comes with both a cash strap and a money clip in the box. Dimensions are 3.39 by 2.13 inches, with a thickness of 0.31 inches when empty. The Patriot weighs 2.9 oz (82 g), while the forged carbon fiber version comes in lighter at 2.4 oz (68 g). A portion of every purchase is donated to help homeless veterans, and the wallet carries a lifetime warranty.

Card capacity was tested at the full 12 cards, and the wallet handled it without trouble. An oversized thumb slot makes it easy to push the cards up and fan them out, and because the elastic holds the cards like a sandwich, even a single card stays put during a shake test.

Swappable Plates and the Maglock System

The standout feature is the modular cover plate system. The plates attach to the aluminum liners using rare earth magnets in a patented Maglock system, and they snap on with a satisfying, secure click. Each plate has a small notch so you can get a fingernail or tool underneath, and plates only fit one direction, so there is no guesswork. Swapping takes seconds.

That matters if you like changing the look of your wallet often. The forged carbon fiber plate can be paired with a black Patriot plate, or the black Patriot with gunmetal, and you can mix and match across the lineup. The back plate also comes off the same way, which is how you access the cash strap and elastic underneath.

Cash Strap vs Money Clip

Both accessories come included. The cash strap is already attached, and the money clip sits in the box as an alternative. Swapping between them is simple: remove the back plate, slip the elastic off the channel, and slide the money clip on over the two grooves until it clicks into place.

In practical testing, the cash strap is the clear winner for cash carriers. Five American bills folded into quarters were very tight under the money clip, and folding into thirds barely eased the fit. Under the elastic cash strap, the same five folded bills went in effortlessly, and the strap even accommodated a ridiculous 30 folded bills in a pinch. The money clip is limited by how far it can stretch, while the elastic stretches much farther. The money clip is not useless, but the cash strap is the one most people will keep on.

The elastic itself is the one part of any sandwich-style wallet that wears out over time, and X Wallet has made it easy to replace. Take the plates off, slip the old elastic off, slide a new piece on, and reattach. No tools, no fuss.

The Chipolo Tracker Bundle

X Wallet also offers a tracker bundle with a Chipolo tracker card and a small accessory called the tracker tray. The card sits in the tray, the tray goes into the wallet, and because the tray is exactly credit-card sized, your cards stack right on top of it with no problem. The tray can also hold keys, coins, or other small items if you prefer.

The bundle is currently offered at around $40 on sale, normally $50. Given how expensive modern minimalist wallets are, and how much cash and card value rides inside one, having a trackable card in the wallet is a sensible bit of insurance.

Buying Advice

If you want the lighter option and you are drawn to the marbled look, the forged carbon fiber version at 2.4 oz is the pick. If you prefer a metal plate with more traditional styling, the Patriot in gunmetal or black at 2.9 oz is the way to go. Either way, keep the money clip in the box unless you genuinely prefer clips, and consider the tracker bundle at sale pricing if you are prone to misplacing your wallet.

Conclusion

The X Wallet lineup takes a well-regarded design and adds genuine flexibility: swappable magnet-mounted plates, a quick-change cash strap or money clip, replaceable elastic, solid RFID blocking, and an optional tracker bundle. Whether the Patriot or the forged carbon fiber suits you better comes down to weight and looks, since the wallet underneath is the same.
