Wow Factories Ratcheting Torque Screwdriver: A Repairable Precision Tool Aiming at the Best

A Kickstarter precision screwdriver that combines ratcheting, adjustable torque, and full repairability in one all-metal tool.

Introduction

Every once in a while, a product shows up that tries to change how a whole category works. That is exactly what Wow Factories is attempting with its new ratcheting torque screwdriver, currently in prototype form on Kickstarter. The company is taking direct aim at the absolute best screwdrivers in the world, and in several respects it may have beaten them.

This is not a typical tool launch. The company reached out early on for feedback and refinement, and after months of development the result is a screwdriver built around an idea most brands have abandoned: sell one tool, make it fully repairable, and expect the buyer to never need another one.

What Makes This Screwdriver Different

Aside from a small orange plastic piece and the rubber grip, the entire tool is made of metal. Every single component can be replaced independently, and the whole thing is designed to be repaired. That is genuinely rare. Most tools fall into one of two camps: proprietary designs that require a specialist or a trip back to the manufacturer, or disposable products meant to be replaced rather than fixed.

Wow Factories is going back to the older approach: repair the product, use it over and over, and keep it for life. The company publishes a full breakdown of every component on its website, because it believes no one can build this tool better. It is also a class-leading product coming out of India, built to a level the company claims even established Swiss makers are struggling to match.

Torque Range and Adjustability

This is both a ratcheting screwdriver and a torque driver, a combination very few tools offer. The base torque range covers 1 to 8 Newton meters, but the tool’s strength can go up to 60 Newton meters. The built-in clutch is designed to be replaced, and the 1 to 8 Newton meter increments can be swapped for a wide range of other inserts. You can even shrink the range down to 2 Newton meters and work in 0.2 Newton meter steps.

The ratcheting mechanism itself is unusual. It uses 60 teeth, achieved by pairing two 30-tooth gears staggered from each other. The result is the strength of larger teeth with the precision of 60-tooth ratcheting, with 0 degrees of movement in the shaft and remarkably low back drag.

Disassembled precision tool components laid out neatly on a neutral surface

There is also a rotating tail cap on the end. On this prototype it does not spin particularly fast, but the company is already working on improving it.

Bits and Compatibility

The company has developed its own attachment system, built around what is essentially a T35-size fitting with a magnet in the center. This proprietary approach lets the tool keep the same shaft dimension while using its own bits, which means it can reach areas a bulkier dedicated driver might not.

At the same time, every version includes screw-on adapters for both 4mm bits and standard 1/4 inch bits. So alongside the proprietary bits, you can use standard off-the-shelf bits with the built-in magnet. One shaft and one driver cover everything, which is an approach no single screwdriver on the market currently matches end to end.

Who This Tool Is Actually For

To be clear, this is not a tool for everyone. It is a precision instrument aimed at people who repair electronics, work on automotive tasks, maintain servers, or do other specialized technical work.

It is not cheap, but the pricing still undercuts the competition. To match this tool’s coverage from the only other company offering a ratcheting torque screwdriver, you would need to buy two of their very expensive drivers, which start around $134 each: one covering roughly 1 to 3 Newton meters and the other around 4 to 6.

Buying Advice

Two variations are planned. One includes the two adapters and a couple of proprietary bits. The other adds a full modular stack of specialized bits designed to sit on a table for quick access. For the full experience, the complete set is the more interesting option.

The long-term cost argument is the strongest part of the pitch. Because the tool is repairable and individual components are unscrewable, Wow Factories plans to sell future upgrades as single components rather than requiring a whole new purchase. Over a 30 to 40 year span, that makes it cheaper than many less expensive screwdrivers while also being more capable, and it is genuinely pleasant to use thanks to the low back drag and precise feel.

Production improvements are already planned: a much faster spinning tail, CNC machined aluminum parts, steel components with fine texture, a fluted shaft for easy hand rotation, different shaft lengths, and extendable shaft options that screw together for longer reach.

Conclusion

Wow Factories is asking a different question than most tool companies: not “good enough,” but “how good can we make it?” A fully repairable, adjustable, all-metal precision screwdriver that competes with the best in the world is a refreshing take, and one worth keeping an eye on even if you are not backing the Kickstarter right now.
