Union Reset Pro First Look: A Snowboard Boot Built to Outlast the Season

Union enters the snowboard boot market with the Reset Pro, a single-piece injected-shell boot built around longevity and consistent flex, compared with the Ride Fuse.

Introduction

Union has entered the snowboard boot market. The brand’s first model, the Reset Pro, launched globally and is available online and at local shops. Rather than iterate on the standard boot formula, Union built the Reset Pro around a different construction philosophy, with longevity and consistent flex as the headline goals. This is a first look at the boot, what makes it different, and how it felt on a first day of riding.

How Snowboard Boots Have Been Made for 20 Years

For the last 15 to 20 years, snowboard boot construction has barely changed. Nearly every boot starts with a last, the foot-shaped form the boot is built around, followed by durable materials stitched together into a shell, plus a liner, mid-sole, and out-sole. Even the most expensive boots on the market, including models costing $700 or $800, follow this pattern.

There have been durability upgrades along the way, such as seamless toe caps and urethane infused into specific parts of the boot. But all of it is stitched together, and that stitching creates variance. Boots stretch over time, and every seam is a potential point of wear.

The practical result is familiar to almost every snowboarder: boots break down quickly. A premium boot can feel noticeably broken in after about 10 days of riding and like a completely different boot after 50 or 60 days. That break-in behavior traces directly back to the stitched construction and the materials used.

The Reset Pro Shell: One Piece, No Breakdown

The Reset Pro’s defining feature is the shell. The upper is a single-piece injection-molded shell, confirmed to be injection-molded in Italy, made from a material called Pebax. Pebax is long-time alpine proven in mountaineering, and Union chose it because it does not break down over time. It maintains its rigidity and flex over a much longer period, and it keeps that flex and durability even in very cold conditions.

In the Reset Pro, the primary flex, durability, and rebound come directly from the shell rather than from structured additives like the urethane spine found in boots such as the Ride Fuse, which is stitched into the rest of the upper. Because the upper is one piece, it controls the entire feel of the boot. When Union introduces more models, the company can adjust the mix of Pebax with other materials to modify flex while keeping everything in a single upper.

The shell also connects to the softer parts of the upper with just one stitch line, which means far less room for variance and far less chance of blowout over time. Union is targeting a boot that maintains its flex for a long time, potentially multiple seasons, feeling close to how it does on day one.

Mid-sole, Out-sole, and Liner Details

Underfoot, Union approached the mid-sole like a high-end running shoe. The phylon EVA mid-sole is compression molded, so it is light, springy, and longer lasting than a regular EVA foam mid-sole. There are also bushings directly under the foot, adding dampening and comfort built into the boot regardless of which binding is used. The out-sole is a burly, rugged natural rubber with good tread, kept thin for better board feel.

The liner is another notable departure. Instead of the industry-standard heat-moldable Intuition-style liners, Union uses a memory foam liner made from a completely different material. That translates to straight-out-of-the-box comfort, and Union makes a substantial longevity claim about the liner as well.

Another striking omission: there is no ankle lock technology, no internal strap pulling the ankle back into the heel pocket like many high-end boots have. That choice comes back to the injection-molded shell. Because it is exactly the same every time, Union can do precise one-to-one lasting, meaning the liner and shell are made on the same mold, even for half sizes. The idea is that the liner fits the shell so closely that the denser foam ankle pockets lock the ankle in without needing anything else.

Finally, Union handles the entire process in house: design, engineering, testing, manufacturing, tooling, assembly, materials, supply chain, and quality control. That full vertical integration sets Union apart from every other boot brand, since even brands that design boots internally still outsource manufacturing.

How the Reset Pro Fits and Flexes

Straight out of the box, the boots are easy to get on and very comfortable, with the memory foam liner noticeable immediately and the ankle pockets gripping the ankles. In terms of flex, they sit a little stiffer than medium, not super stiff. Compared with a Ride Fuse, they feel like an early broken-in Fuse, roughly 20 days into that boot’s life, with a springy rebound feel.

On sizing, a foot measuring a size nine on the right and nine and a half on the left fits a size nine here. Riders who run a smaller size in the Ride Fuse may want to consider going down, though staying conservative for a first fit is a reasonable approach.

The Ride Fuse Benchmark

The Ride Fuse serves as a useful point of comparison here. It is a well-regarded boot with a urethane spine and urethane tongue stitched into the upper, designed for durability in the traditional construction style. It is not an inexpensive boot, yet it breaks in noticeably after about 10 days and changes character significantly by 50 to 60 days.

That is not a knock on the Fuse specifically; it is how stitched boots behave. It simply highlights what Union is trying to solve with the Reset Pro’s injected shell, which aims to deliver day-one flex for far longer.

First On-Snow Impressions

On snow, the comfort holds up. The memory foam liner is noticeable as soon as the foot goes in, and the ankle pockets do their job. Flex-wise, the forward flex looks relatively soft and feels like a mid-flexing boot, but the response is a surprise: more responsive than a brand new Fuse, to the point where it takes some getting used to.

The boots have genuine rebound, with a springy energy that becomes noticeable when leaning into the tongue, giving some pop back. Carving feel is good, and after a handful of laps there were no heel lift issues. The long-term test continues over the next 60 to 100-plus days to see how the shell, rebound, liner, and softer upper components hold up through a full season.

Conclusion

The Union Reset Pro is one of the more interesting boot launches in years, not because it adds features, but because it removes the weakest links in traditional boot construction. The single-piece Pebax shell, phylon EVA mid-sole, bushing-dampened footbed, memory foam liner, and fully in-house manufacturing all point toward the same goal: a boot that feels like day one for far longer than what most riders are used to. Riders shopping for their next boot this season would do well to try the Reset Pro in person alongside a proven stitched boot and feel the difference for themselves.
