Under Armour Flow Synchronicity Review: A Running Shoe Built for Women's Feet

Under Armour's first women's-specific running shoe uses foot scans and a lightweight Flow midsole, but sizing quirks and firmer cushioning shape who it suits.

Introduction

The Under Armour Flow Synchronicity is Under Armour’s first shoe designed specifically for women rather than simply scaled down from a men’s model. Launched in June, it was built from extensive scans of women’s feet to create a women’s-first last, and it uses the lightweight Flow midsole also found in the Velocity Wind. After a week of running in it, including one long run and some faster sessions, the overall picture is of a light, secure daily trainer with a few practical trade-offs.

Who This Product Is For

This is a shoe for women who want a lightweight, everyday running option and who genuinely value a fit shaped around women’s feet. It suits shorter, relaxed running best. After a 10-mile long run, the tester found it lacked the cushioning underfoot she wanted for long distances, and she would not use it again for that purpose. She positions it as an everyday running shoe for distances up to around a 10K, with a feel similar to the Lululemon Blissfeel in character.

Fit and Heel Design

Under Armour scanned many women’s feet and found two clear needs: a more supportive, secure heel because women tend to have narrower heels, and more support around the arch. The shoe is built on a women’s-specific last to address both.

Fit-wise, it works well overall. The molded heel holds the foot firmly and, even with a slight length in the toe, the heel did not slip at all. There is a good amount of arch support too, which the tester, who overpronates slightly, appreciated. One sizing caveat: the tester normally wears UK 5, and the UK 5 version runs as EU 38.5, half a size up from the EU 38 she usually expects, so the shoes run a bit long in the toe.

Midsole and Weight

The Flow midsole is not a plush, sink-in foam. It is firmer and you feel the ground a bit more, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Under Armour has focused Flow on keeping the shoe lightweight rather than cushioned. At UK 5.5, this shoe weighs 235 grams, which is genuinely light.

There is no traditional rubber outsole; the midsole simply wraps around the bottom, a design choice that helps keep weight down.

The upper is essentially one large piece of material. It is not a snug, bootie-like wrap, but the single-piece construction reduces seams, hot spots, and blisters.

Tech Features

Like some other recent Under Armour running shoes, the Synchronicity has a Bluetooth chip in the front of the shoe. It connects to the UA app and tracks your run from your feet, and also gives insights into cadence and running stride.

In real use it is not completely accurate, and it is nowhere near as precise as a dedicated foot-pod device. But it is a genuinely useful extra that most brands do not offer, and even if you only use it to track the miles accumulated on a pair of shoes, it is a feature worth appreciating.

Things to Consider Before Buying

Sizing runs slightly large and long in the toe, so trying a half size down may be worth considering. Cushioning is firm rather than plush, which limits this shoe to shorter everyday running rather than long-run duty. The upper is not particularly form-fitting, so those wanting a sock-like wrap should temper expectations.

Buying Advice

If you run mostly short and easy distances and want a shoe genuinely engineered around women’s foot shapes, the Flow Synchronicity is an encouraging sign of where running shoes are heading. If you need a cushioned shoe for long distances, you will likely want to look elsewhere in Under Armour’s range.

Conclusion

The Flow Synchronicity is a lightweight, well-fitting daily trainer with real attention paid to women’s fit: a secure molded heel, useful arch support, and a low 235g weight. It is not a plush shoe and not built for long runs, but for everyday running up to around 10K, it is a confident and welcome step toward women’s-first running shoe design.
