Tourist Camp Base Wallet (Cards Version) Review: Minimalist Leather Done Right

A handmade vertical minimalist wallet from Singapore with smart card pocket design, quick access storage, and excellent leather quality.

Introduction

After years of covering everyday carry gear, one brand kept coming up in requests but somehow never made it onto the desk: Tourist Camp. That changes now with the Base Wallet, Cards version. Carried for several weeks, this handmade Singapore wallet turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises of the year, and it earned a reputation as one of the most functional card-and-cash wallets tested recently.

First Impressions and Build Quality

The packaging sets the tone immediately. The wallet arrives in a nice box with a fabric pouch, wrapped in yellow paper that identifies the wallet, the leather, and the color. The review unit is chestnut, one of 25 color variations, with custom colors available at a higher price.

The leather itself is the headline. The Base Wallet is handmade from full grain vegetable tan Buttero leather from the Conceria Walpier tannery in Italy, and it is hand saddle stitched with waxed thread. The leather measures 1.4 mm thick, roughly 3.5 ounce, and the whole wallet weighs just 1.7 ounces, or 50 grams. The grain is smooth and soft, and the smell is exactly what leather fans hope for.

Craftsmanship details hold up under scrutiny. The cut lines are straight and near perfect, the hand burnished edges look clean, and the leather inside is finished rather than left raw, a touch that separates careful makers from careless ones. The small antique brass snap was the one potential weak point, since snaps this size often feel cheap, but this one closes with a satisfying, confident click. Quality earns an A+.

Design and Everyday Functionality

This is a vertical minimalist wallet with a front flap and button snap, and the layout is full of smart decisions. On the outside back there is a quick access card pocket with an angled cut, so a card slides out and back in effortlessly, and when pushed fully down only a small corner peeks out.

Inside, there are two card pockets and a side slot for folded cash. Both interior pockets get large thumb cutouts, and the rear cards sit stepped up slightly higher than the front ones, which means no bending the front pocket away just to reach the cards behind it. Whether intentional or lucky, it works beautifully. The cash slot is the cleverest part: once bills are inserted from the side, you can see exactly how many you are carrying just by looking inside, without pulling them out.

Branding is restrained. One small Tourist Camp logo sits at the bottom of the wallet, with a second stamp hidden inside the rear card pocket, visible only when the wallet is open. That is exactly the right amount.

Capacity Test: How Much Can It Hold?

Preloaded with seven cards and seven bills, the wallet still looks and feels slim, measuring 20.1 mm, about 0.79 inches, at the snap. The quick access pocket comfortably holds up to three cards, though one works best. The cash slot handles seven folded bills with easy access.

Stuffed to the limit, the wallet took 12 cards and 12 folded bills while still barely snapping shut: three cards in the back quick access pocket, five in the rear interior pocket, and four in the middle. The rated comfortable capacity is nine credit cards, and it carries most international currencies.

Buying Advice

At 3.15 x 4.21 inches and just 50 grams, the Base Wallet fits the minimalist brief without sacrificing capacity. If you carry a mix of cards and folded cash and value quick access to a daily card plus easy visibility of your cash count, this design is hard to beat. The leather quality, stitching, and finished interior justify the handmade price, and 25 color options make personalizing it easy. Just avoid overstuffing it if you want the snap to keep its satisfying feel long term.

Conclusion

The Tourist Camp Base Wallet, Cards version is easily one of the most functional wallets for cards and cash reviewed this year. Fantastic Buttero leather, perfect hand saddle stitching, thoughtful pocket staggering, and that brilliant cash visibility window make it an easy recommendation for anyone after a well-made vertical minimalist wallet. It will not be the last wallet from this maker to get a close look.
