Topo Athletic Trail Lineup 2026: Three Trail Shoes Worth Knowing
Terraventure 5, Pursuit 3, and Ultraventure get updated uppers, softer midsoles, and a shared focus on comfort and traction for 2026.
Introduction
Topo Athletic’s 2026 trail lineup refreshes three established models: the Terraventure 5, the Pursuit 3, and the Ultraventure. Each shoe keeps the parts that made it popular and focuses its updates where they matter most: uppers, midsole feel, and insole comfort. Prices and release timing are already confirmed, so if you have been waiting on a new trail shoe for next season, here is what each one offers.
Topo Athletic Terraventure 5
The Terraventure 5 continues as Topo’s run-to-hike shoe: a moderately cushioned option for a variety of uses on technical terrain. The midsole and outsole platform carry over from the previous version, which means you still get a full-length Vibram Megagrip outsole, a 4-foot rock plate, and a moderate stack height of 25 millimeters in the heel and 22 in the forefoot.
The big update is the upper. A ripstop material is overlaid on top of a more open engineered mesh weave, adding abrasion resistance and durability closer to the midsole while keeping out debris and wet conditions near the ground. The top of the foot stays open for ventilation and comfort.
Underfoot, the Terraventure 5 gains the FKT insole, made from TPU beads. It delivers a resilient step, plenty of underfoot comfort, and it retains very little water, which matters when shoes get soaked on wet hikes. Insoles are easy to overlook in shoe design, but this one genuinely improves the daily experience.
Despite being marketed as a hike-to-run shoe, plenty of runners use the Terraventure as an all-around trail runner that sits slightly lower to the ground than the rest of the line. Shorter trail runs, weekend hikes, or any outing where you want more connection to the ground without giving up rock plate protection are its sweet spot. It arrives in spring 2026 at $145.

Topo Athletic Pursuit 3
The Pursuit 3 is Topo’s high-cushion zero-drop trainer, and the changes here are more substantial. The Vibram Megagrip outsole carries over unchanged, delivering the proven traction and slip resistance the line is known for.
The midsole is all new, taking visual and functional cues from the Vista. Sweeping lines wrap up around the back of the heel so you ride down within the midsole platform rather than on top of it, adding inherent stability on technical trail. The Zip Foam midsole is still Zip Foam, but it is now a touch softer and slightly more responsive underfoot, a change most runners should appreciate.
The upper uses a tightly woven mesh that keeps dirt and debris out while securing the foot over the platform. Like all new Topo trail shoes, it moves to a more universal hook-and-loop gaiter attachment system, shared with the Terraventure. It also uses the FKT insole underfoot, bringing that same resilient, comfortable feel to a high-cushion platform.
The Pursuit 3 releases in spring 2026 at $155.

Topo Athletic Ultraventure
The Ultraventure is the most popular trail running shoe in Topo’s line, and this new version keeps serving the same customer: runners who want high cushion for mild to moderate terrain or road-to-trail use. It gets an all-new midsole and all-new upper, while keeping the Vibram Trek outsole, which delivers traction and durability on buffed-out singletrack, fire roads, or when you need to run a stretch of road before reaching the trailhead.
The new midsole maintains the 35 to 30 millimeter stack height of previous generations but uses slightly softer foam with a bit more rebound underfoot. The result is a more runnable, road-inspired version of a shoe that already had range. The upper is a slightly thicker engineered mesh with strategic PU overlays for durability, locking the foot in over the platform while preserving the roomy toe box and secure midfoot and heel fit Topo is known for.
The insole here stays Ortholite, which makes sense for the more runnable, road-inspired character of this shoe. Topo positions it for mild to moderate terrain and road-to-trail use, but it is more capable than many give it credit for, and customers take it just about everywhere. It releases in the second half of 2026 at $155.

Which One Should You Pick
If your mix leans toward hiking with some running, or you simply want a lower-to-the-ground trail shoe with serious protection, the Terraventure 5 at $145 is the natural fit. If zero drop with high cushion is your priority, the Pursuit 3 is the clear choice in the lineup. For road-to-trail versatility, gravel paths, and long runnable days on milder terrain, the Ultraventure remains the most popular option for good reason.

Conclusion
Topo’s 2026 trail updates are refreshingly focused: proven outsoles stay, midsoles get slightly softer and more responsive, uppers gain durability, and the FKT insole spreads to more of the line. Whether you hike, run, or blur the two, there is a clear pick among the three, and the spring and fall 2026 release windows give you time to plan your upgrade.
