Sudu SRM 01 First Runs: A Promising Debut Daily Trainer
Early miles in the debut daily trainer from new running brand Sudu: solid build, a firmer responsive ride, and a fit quirk to know about.
Introduction
The Sudu SRM 01 is the debut shoe from a brand new running brand, a daily trainer pitched for fast-paced performance at any distance. At £125 in the UK, it sits at the cheaper end of the daily trainer market, and it is not currently available in the US. The obvious question: can a newcomer hold its own in one of the most hotly contested categories in running? These are our early impressions after several easy-paced hour-long runs, roughly 12 miles in total.
Key Specs and Build
The SRM 01 pairs a 27mm heel and 19mm forefoot for an 8mm drop, weighing 262g (9.25oz) in a men’s UK 8.5 test shoe. The midsole uses Sudu’s Spring Foam Plus, a high rebound engineered TPE supercritical foam with a comparatively low stack and a fairly traditional, flat geometry with little rocker, something like the Brooks Glycerin 21 in character.

Up top you get a Speed Weave Plus engineered knit upper that is thick but flexible and airy enough, with a medium padded heel collar and flat wrapping tongues held in place by small securing straps. The outsole carries a generous rubber covering with a few different grip patterns that looks protective and durable.
How the Ride Feels
Debut shoes often miss the mark, but this one is generally well put together. That said, it is competent rather than exciting: safe, slightly unremarkable, but consistent. The supercritical midsole is tuned firmer and more responsive rather than cushioned and springy, so it is not the liveliest daily trainer, though it is not dead either. Think more Brooks Glycerin than Asics Novablast.

On early miles the shoes run a bit long, which can make the forefoot feel slightly disconnected, a bit slappy under the toes. The shoe could also use more rocker to add snap to transitions. Stability, however, is genuinely good, with reliable landings and a solid platform, which makes it a candidate for stepping off the treadmill into dynamic gym floor drills and training.

If you like pillowy soft, big-stack bouncy cushioning, the firmer, lower-stack ride here probably is not for you.
Fit and Sizing Advice
There is a good amount of room at the end of the toes, arguably a little too much, more than a thumbs width. Because the upper flexes and the midsole bends, that extra length is what makes the toe area feel long. The rest of the fit is solid: flexible uppers with good hold into the toe knuckles, comfortable across the midfoot, good lockdown higher up, and a slightly reinforced flat tongue that avoids lace pinch. The heel collar comes up high but is bendy enough to avoid digging in. Go true to size; shortening the shoe risks cramping everything else.

Buying Advice
For a debut shoe, the SRM 01 is not half bad. It sits somewhere around a lower stack, tamer Nike Pegasus 7 or an Adidas Supernova Rise ballpark, though likely not as lively as either. Comfort is solid, and the firmer ride will suit runners who do not want maximum cushion. Our early feeling is that it may struggle to rival competitors like the Saucony Ride 17 at £135, the £130 Supernova Rise, or the Puma Velocity Nitro 3, but faster-paced testing is still needed before a final verdict.
Conclusion
The Sudu SRM 01 is a well-constructed, stable, and consistent daily trainer with a firmer, more responsive ride and a fit that runs slightly long. It does not quite match the energy of the best daily trainers out there, but as a first effort from a new brand it is a credible start, especially for runners who prefer a solid platform over plush bounce.
