Saucony Endorphin Elite vs Endorphin Pro: Which Race Day Shoe Should You Buy?
Saucony's new flagship Endorphin Elite is one of the fastest race shoes around, but the Endorphin Pro remains the smarter buy for most runners. Here is how they compare.
Introduction
Saucony’s Endorphin Elite is an all-new shoe rather than a replacement for anything in the range. It sits one step above the Endorphin Pro as the brand’s new flagship super shoe, and it arrives in a bold lime green colorway that looks every bit as fast as it claims to be. The question is whether that extra speed is worth the step up in price, or whether the Pro remains the better all-round racing shoe.
Saucony Endorphin Elite: Facts and Figures
The Elite carries a 39.5mm heel stack, which is the legal limit, paired with a 31.5mm forefoot for an 8mm drop. In a UK size 12 it weighs 256 grams, a fraction lighter than the Pro and a significant saving compared with heavier super shoes on the market. It is a neutral road racing shoe with a breathable knit and mesh upper, minimal outsole rubber, and both men’s and women’s fits. It ran true to size.
The headline feature is a brand new midsole foam called PWRRUN HG, which Saucony claims delivers 95% energy return. It sits slightly firmer than the PWRRUN PB foam used in the Pro. The carbon plate is also new: instead of a solid plate, it uses a slotted design that splays out at the ends, with a different geometry from the Pro’s standard S-curve plate. The shoe is vegan and contains some recycled materials.

Saucony Endorphin Elite: What We Liked
This is a genuinely fast shoe with no caveats. It gets you up on your toes, tilts you forward, and begs you to push the pace. The front-of-foot rocker is possibly the most aggressive we have tested, constantly tipping you into the next stride. Once up to speed, the firmer foam rewards strong legs with an extremely responsive ride.
It is also surprisingly stable when cornering, with very little lateral movement, and it is the lightest super shoe in regular rotation, noticeably lighter than several key rivals. The breathability is excellent, and at speed the shoe simply inspires confidence. It is genuinely fun to run in.

Saucony Endorphin Elite: Things to Consider
The heel lockdown is the biggest frustration. The shoe has no traditional heel counter, and some heel slip persisted even after using a heel lock lacing pattern. Expect to experiment with lacing to get a secure fit at the back.
Versatility is the second issue. This is a race day and speed work shoe only. At easy paces it feels clunky and awkward, so you will need other shoes in your rotation for recovery runs and warm-ups. The fit also runs wide, which is great for wider feet but caused some bunching at the front for narrower feet. And the very aggressive rocker, with toes curled upward, can be a trigger for plantar fasciitis if you are prone to it.
Price is the final hurdle: £280 in the UK, €300 in Europe, and $275 in the US, which makes it a comparatively better deal in America.

Saucony Endorphin Pro: The Everyday Race Alternative
The Endorphin Pro remains the more versatile option in the range. It uses the PWRRUN PB foam with a firmer-feeling ride overall than the Elite but a more traditional S-curve carbon plate, a more conventional heel counter at the back, and a geometry that works for easy runs, steady state runs, and racing alike. Stack height, drop, and weight are essentially identical to the Elite, but the ride is more universal.
Critically, it costs a lot less. With the Elite priced at the very top of the market, the Pro has been available in the UK for around £167, delivering roughly 95% of the Elite’s speed for a fraction of the money.
How They Compare: Elite vs Pro
The Elite is firmer, more aggressive, and puts your foot further forward in the shoe, making it a bracing, speed-focused tool. The Pro is softer underfoot, more forgiving, and handles a wider range of paces. Against other top-tier super shoes, the Elite sits very close to the fastest options on outright speed while offering better comfort than some of them, and it feels at least on par with the Nike Vaporfly in pace with excellent breathability throughout.

Who Should Buy Which
If you want the best of the best for race day, money is no object, and you mainly race or run fast sessions, the Endorphin Elite is an outstanding choice and earns its place at the front of the pack. If you are the vast majority of runners who want one fast shoe that can also cover easy miles, the Pro is the smarter purchase and will serve you far better across a full week of training.
Conclusion
The Endorphin Elite is an incredibly fast, beautifully light race shoe with a genuinely new feel, held back only by heel lockdown, one-pace versatility, and a premium price. The Endorphin Pro gets you almost all of the speed with far more flexibility. Choose the Elite for pure race day performance; choose the Pro for everything else.
