Saucony Endorphin Elite Review: Fast, Aggressive, and Best Kept Short
Raced over a half marathon, the Endorphin Elite delivered a big personal best but left comfort questions over longer distances.
Introduction
Some racing shoes aim for balance. The Saucony Endorphin Elite aims for speed, almost single-mindedly. That focus became very clear after racing it over half marathon distance, having previously taken it out at 10K. The result was a personal best by over a minute, alongside a few honest reservations about comfort. Here is how it performed at the Brighton Half Marathon.
Race Day: The Brighton Half Marathon
The Brighton Half Marathon is not an easy course to run fast. It starts with a climb and there is undulation over the first 5K, and running along the coast means the weather can reshape the entire day. Previous editions have ranged from running into storm-force winds to a far calmer year with a 1:28 finish.

This outing came with modest expectations. Training had been lighter than in previous race cycles, with only four runs per week and some track sessions, so the target was around 1:26 to 1:27. The race went out at just under 4-minute kilometre pace, held it through 10K at roughly 38:50, then required real effort to keep that pace alive through the middle kilometres before pulling speed back at the end. The final time was 1:22:20, a 1 minute 15 second personal best and an unexpected one.
Racing Performance: Where the Elite Shines
Over 10K, the Endorphin Elite has already proven itself quick. A 38:30 was run in it while managing a cold and not even chasing a time, and the shoe delivered a fast, efficient ride the whole way.

For the first 10K of the half marathon, it felt excellent. Turnover felt light, the shoe kept the legs moving quickly, and pace came together with ease. This is an aggressive shoe that actively positions your foot and seems to tip you forward as you run. If raw speed is the goal, that character clearly works. Whether that aggression was part of the personal best is impossible to say for certain, but the ride never felt slow.
The Second Half: Where Comfort Slips
The last 11K told a different story. The pace held, but the feet stopped feeling comfortable. The shoe holds your foot in a specific position, feels restrictive, and by the final four or five kilometres it simply did not feel natural to run in.

A slow 16-mile training run in the Elite beforehand confirmed the same point: this is not a shoe designed for comfort. It is tightly fitting, firmer than a natural-riding trainer, and it pushes you forward rather than cushioning you. For a half marathon or marathon, comfort matters over that much time on foot, and the Elite does not offer it for the full duration. It is hard to recommend it for anything much beyond the 10K range, and it is definitely not the shoe for a marathon.
How It Compares to Other Carbon-Plated Shoes
The comparison point here is the Saucony Endorphin Pro 3, a long-standing favourite: comfortable, natural, with a lively turnover and bounce. Where the Pro 3 feels natural, the Elite feels engineered and aggressive.

The Nike Alphafly shows a similar trade-off, being restrictive in places and uncomfortable over marathon distance. The Elite sits in the same camp. For half marathon and marathon racing, the preference here remains with the Endorphin Pro 3, even if it might cost a few seconds per kilometre. If the priority is maximum speed over shorter race distances and you can tolerate a firmer, more positional fit, the Elite makes sense.
Buying Advice
The Endorphin Elite is best understood as a short-distance race weapon. It rewards runners chasing fast 10K times and can absolutely deliver over a half marathon if comfort is not the top priority. For slower long runs, marathon racing, or runners who value a natural feeling ride, other options in the lineup will be a better fit.
Conclusion
The Saucony Endorphin Elite is a genuinely fast shoe that produced an unexpected personal best at the half marathon distance, but it did so at the cost of comfort in the closing kilometres. It suits runners focused on speed over shorter races, while those planning longer events may prefer something more forgiving. Fast, aggressive, and uncompromising: know what you are buying into.
