Refined CC1 Wallet Review: A Minimalist Wallet with Titanium Extras

A slim vertical minimalist wallet with integrated grade 5 titanium tools, made in California, with a few trade-offs to weigh before buying.

Introduction

Refined is a company best known for high-end EDC pens, and the Refined CC1 wallet is its take on the minimalist carry category. It is a vertical-style wallet with a genuinely slim profile, a few clever integrated tools, and a no-nonsense lifetime warranty. It is designed and developed in Huntington Beach, California, and it is available in one color: black. The asking price is $69, which raises some fair questions about the materials. Here is what the CC1 gets right, and where it asks you to compromise.

Unboxing and First Impressions

The CC1 arrives in simple cardboard packaging inside a fabric pouch, and that is about it. No extras, no fuss. The wallet itself measures 2.87 inches by 4.02 inches, and the listed weight of 0.74 ounces (21 grams) excludes the tools. Weighed with the multi-tool and toothpick installed, it comes to 1.1 ounces (32 grams), which is still very light for a full-featured wallet.

Branding is limited to a small logo in the bottom corner, which keeps the look clean and understated.

Materials and Build Quality

The wallet is described as genuine Saffiano leather. True Saffiano is typically an Italian vegetable-tanned calfskin with a cross-hatch pattern pressed into the wax coating, the kind of leather used by luxury fashion houses. However, the term is also applied to pieces made from waxes, plastics, or lower-grade materials, and there is no published information confirming the CC1 uses actual vegetable-tanned calfskin. The $69 price suggests it could be real calf leather, but buyers who care deeply about leather grade should go in with eyes open.

Construction details are mostly solid. The stitching is machine stitch rather than hand stitch, which is the less premium and less durable option, though reinforced stitches at each of the four pockets are a thoughtful touch and the edges are finished cleanly. Inside, the wallet has an RFID protective lining. RFID theft is not a significant real-world problem, and this lining does little to improve the wallet, but it is included regardless.

Design and Integrated Tools

The CC1 is a five-card vertical minimalist wallet: two pockets on each side with a dedicated cash compartment in the center. Refine claims capacity for up to eight cards and 10 bills folded in half. The standout features are the two integrated grade 5 titanium tools:

  • A multi-tool with 11 functions, including a bottle opener, mini file, flathead screwdriver with mini pry bar, quarter-inch driver, pry bar, nail puller, 6, 8, and 10 millimeter wrenches, and a package opener/scribe
  • A titanium needle that doubles as a toothpick and SIM card tool

Both tools sit in dedicated compartments and are light enough that the whole package stays at 1.1 ounces. They are claimed to be TSA compliant, though that has not been independently tested here.

Everyday Use: Cards and Cash

With four cards, one per pocket, and 10 folded bills, the CC1 works well. Cards slide in and out without resistance, and the wallet stays impressively thin.

Doubling up cards to reach the claimed eight-card maximum is possible but not recommended, and it degrades the experience. With a fully loaded wallet, getting bills back into the center cash compartment becomes a wrestling match; removing cards or squeezing the wallet is often necessary. Center cash compartments generally work best when the wallet is not overstuffed, and the CC1 is no exception.

Pros and Cons

On the plus side, the CC1 is exactly what it advertises: a true minimalist wallet for slimming down your carry. Functionality with four cards is great, the folded-bill cash compartment is compact, the titanium tools are genuinely useful and neatly integrated, and it is made in the USA with a lifetime warranty.

The cons are real, though. Above four cards, the center cash compartment gets difficult to use. The leather specification is unverifiable, which matters at a $69 price point. And the machine stitching, while holding up fine so far, is not the strongest option even with the lifetime warranty backing it.

Buying Advice

The CC1 makes sense for a specific buyer: someone carrying about four cards who wants an extremely slim wallet, appreciates the integrated titanium tools, and does not care about verifying leather grade or hand stitching. If that description fits, it is an easy recommendation.

If you are picky about leather quality, prefer hand stitching, or need to carry more than four cards regularly, other minimalist wallets will serve you better. The integrated tools are the main differentiator here, and they are only worth the compromises if you would actually use a bottle opener, wrenches, or a toothpick on a daily basis.

Conclusion

The Refined CC1 is a well-designed minimalist wallet with a few standout features: genuinely low weight, useful integrated titanium tools, US manufacturing, and a lifetime warranty. Its weaknesses, unclear leather grade, machine stitching, and a center cash compartment that struggles when overloaded, are worth weighing against that $69 price. For light carriers who like the tool integration, it is a solid pick. For leather purists or heavy card users, there are better options.
