Puma Forever Run Nitro Review: Subtle Stability With Real Cushioning

A well-priced stability shoe that keeps support subtle, cushioning plush, and daily training comfortable.

Introduction

The Puma Forever Run Nitro costs £140 or $150, weighs 270 g (9.5 oz) for men in a size 8, and has a 10 mm drop. On paper those numbers sit it firmly in the daily trainer category, but the interesting part is how Puma handles stability. Rather than building a full-on support shoe, it veers toward the subtle side of support, which makes it approachable for a much wider range of runners.

It is a shoe that does its job quietly and well, and that turns out to be its biggest selling point.

Who This Shoe Is For

This is a great accessible shoe for almost anyone, but it is especially interesting for newer runners who are not sure what kind of shoe they need. If someone has suggested you might benefit from a bit of stability, or you are worried about support as you start clocking up miles, this is a sensible single-shoe option that can handle easy runs, long runs, and even the occasional tempo effort.

It is also genuinely suitable for neutral runners. The stability elements are subtle enough that you can run in it happily without ever feeling forced into a position. If you are used to strongly supportive shoes like the GEL-Kayano line and need a pronounced level of stability, this might not be enough for you. But if you want just a gentle nudge of support wrapped in a comfortable cushioned ride, it fits the brief well.

Main Strengths

The Nitro midsole uses two foam densities: a softer middle section with a firmer outer, aiming to be both responsive and cushioned. It is not the most explosive or bouncy foam on the market, but it blends a little of both, and in this shoe it delivers a noticeably soft, plush ride. Combined with the roomy padded upper, it feels very comfortable over long miles. At 10 miles into a run, it never felt clunky or out of its depth.

Stability is handled with a light touch. There is an asymmetrical heel counter to hold the foot in place, a wider medial rubber segment for a stable base, power tape on the upper for support, and a run guide rail to keep the foot centrally aligned. In practice, the shoe feels stable and the foot feels firmly in place, but nothing feels aggressive. You only really notice the support if you go looking for it.

The Puma Grip outsole deserves special mention. It offers fantastic traction across different terrains and conditions, including light trails and wet pavement, and it is genuinely hard to find outsole rubber this good. Fit is true to size with a roomy toe box and good hold around the heel and midfoot, though the upper is roomy enough that some runners will want to cinch the laces down for a secure fit.

Things to Consider Before Buying

It is not a fantastic all-rounder, more an okay one. The stack is high, close to max-cushion shoes like the GEL-Nimbus 25 or Invincible, though it is lighter and nimbler than either. It is also not as lightweight and lively as the Saucony Tempus, which some runners may prefer as a general daily trainer. The trade-off is that the slightly firmer, more supportive feel here likely helps on the stability front.

Two smaller gripes: small rocks can get lodged in the holes at the front of the outsole on gravelly park paths, which is a minor design quirk, and the styling will not be to every taste. Neither is a dealbreaker, but they are worth knowing about.

Buying Advice

At £140 or $150, the Forever Run Nitro is well priced for what it offers, sitting at or slightly below par for similar options in its range. Puma shoes often drop in price relatively soon after release too, which would make it an even stronger value.

If you want a bouncier, more fun ride and do not need stability, the cheaper Puma Velocity Nitro may suit you better. But if you appreciate subtle support, especially when grinding through big marathon-training weeks, this is a very solid option. It is not built for racing, so treat it as a comfortable daily trainer and easy-run specialist.

Conclusion

The Puma Forever Run Nitro is a solid, subtle stability shoe that achieves exactly what it sets out to do: a stable, well-cushioned, comfortable ride for daily training. The stability never gets in the way, the cushioning is genuinely plush, the outsole is excellent, and the price is fair. Runners who need support get a lighter, more versatile alternative to classic stability shoes, and neutral runners get a plush, dependable trainer. It may not be flashy, but it ticks the boxes it aims for, and for many runners that is exactly what a good training shoe should do.
