Norda 002 First Impressions: A Lighter, More Responsive Trail Shoe
First runs in the Norda 002 reveal a better heel structure, a lower-profile Vibram midsole, and a fit that fixes the original's biggest complaint.
Introduction
Norda is a relatively young trail running brand out of Canada that has been making waves with sustainable technical fabrics and materials. The 002 is its second shoe, positioned as the lighter and more responsive option in the lineup, and it arrives with a genuinely striking design and colorway. At 295 Canadian dollars, or roughly 240 pounds in the UK, this is a premium product, so the big question is whether the performance justifies the price. Early running suggests it might.
First Run on the Trails
The first outing took place on the North Cliffs of Cornwall, a testing ground with an impressively varied mix of underfoot conditions. Over around 7.3 miles of technical woodland running, the shoe made a strong first impression. It felt like running in a pair of old slippers, which is high praise for a shoe fresh out of the box.

In a UK 10 (half a size up from a normal UK 9.5), the length felt spot on. There was some nice wiggle room in the toe box, a close hold around the midfoot, and a fit that felt very precise overall. The added ankle collar padding sits plush without being over-padded, and the thin gusseted tongue proved more comfortable than expected thanks to a lace-holding patch that keeps the laces from digging into the top of the foot.
What Has Changed From the Norda 001
The headline change is the heel. The 001’s lack of heel structure, where the back of the shoe could be folded into the upper, was a real frustration. The 002 adds a substantial heel cradle that completely fixes this. The difference in how secure the back end of the shoe feels is night and day, and it makes the whole shoe fit better. Combined with improved padding around the ankle collar, this feels like a brand that genuinely listens to customer feedback.
Construction and Materials
The upper is built from bio-based Dyneema, one of the strongest fibers in the world. It is durable, lightweight, highly breathable, and because it is bio-based, more sustainable than conventional options. Substantial overlays run from the heel through the midfoot to the toe box, where a doubled-up layer forms a protective toe bumper. Reinforcement around the lacing system adds durability, and reflective detailing runs throughout the shoe for visibility when running at night.

The design also includes a matching dust bag, a small but appreciated finishing touch that reflects the attention to detail in the overall construction.
Midsole and Outsole
Norda has partnered with Vibram on both the midsole and outsole. The midsole uses Vibram’s SLE foam compound in a lower-profile setup: a 4mm heel offset with 19mm of stack under the heel and 15mm under the forefoot. Paired with the included TPU insole, this delivers a convincing balance of comfort, ground connection, and stability. On rocky sections, compacted trails, and even tarmac, the shoe feels more nimble and responsive than the more deeply cushioned 001, without sacrificing comfort.

The outsole is a full Vibram Megagrip Light Base with a chunky 5mm lug layout. The Light Base version keeps the sticky grip of standard Megagrip while saving meaningful weight. It performed well on wet rock and offered enough lug depth for solid traction in mud.
Things to Consider Before Buying
The price is the obvious hurdle. At around 240 pounds in the UK, this is firmly in premium territory and will not suit every budget. That said, given the materials, the construction quality, and how it performed on a first run, the price feels defensible. Durability is the remaining unknown, and only longer-term miles will confirm it.

One more consideration: sizing runs such that going up half a size from a usual UK size produced a spot-on length fit, so it may be worth checking fit carefully before ordering.
Conclusion
On first impressions, the Norda 002 is a very well-executed second shoe. The improved heel structure and fit, the responsive lower-profile Vibram SLE midsole, and the proven Megagrip Light Base outsole add up to a shoe that is genuinely better than its predecessor while keeping the striking design. For trail runners who want a light, connected, technical-trail shoe and can live with the premium price, the 002 looks like an easy recommendation.
