Nitecore NB Air 5000mAh Review: The Smallest Power Bank for Minimalist Travel
A tiny, slim, waterproof 5,000mAh power bank that slides into a wallet or any small pocket, with sensible trade-offs for faster charging.
Introduction
I have been testing portable power banks for travel lately, and the smallest 5,000mAh battery pack I could find is the Nitecore NB Air. It is so tiny that it fits inside a minimalist travel wallet, which is a genuine first for a pack with usable capacity. I use battery packs almost every time I travel, and my standbys have usually been slimmer 10,000mAh packs such as the Nitecore NB 10,000 and the INIU fast-charge models because of their slim designs, high output, and large capacity for their size. The NB Air may have found a new spot as my daily carry winner.
Who This Product Is For
If you carry a phone, a slim wallet, and a small pouch, and you just want insurance against a dead battery, this is your category. The NB Air is a daily-carry battery: good for about one full charge on most cell phones, and roughly the minimum I like to carry on the road to make sure my phone never dies. It is not a laptop charger or a multi-day pack. It is for people who want emergency capacity that disappears into a pocket.

Design and Portability
The specs on this battery are impressive. It is incredibly small and slender, and very lightweight, measuring about 90 grams, or around 3.2 ounces, on my scale. The capacity is 5,000mAh, which is large enough to charge most cell phones at least once. A Pixel 8 battery is about 4,500mAh, so it will give a full charge, and an iPhone 15 at about 3,400mAh gets you close to one and a half charges.

The design is one of my favorite things about it. Compared to a travel wallet with almost nothing in it, it is about the same width. If you have a little wallet with an elastic money band, this thing slides right in and takes up almost no space. It also works well in small divider pockets, sleeves, and pouches in travel backpacks, sliding into pretty much any pocket or sleeve you have. Other 5,000mAh packs fit those sleeves too, but they can be noticeably bulkier.
Waterproof Build
Another impressive feature that I still can barely believe even after testing it: the NB Air is waterproof with an IPX7 rating. That means it can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Unlike your other fragile electronics, you do not need to worry about getting this thing wet.

Charging Speed and Power Output
The last spec worth discussing is power output, measured in watts, which indicates the maximum power the battery can deliver. Unlike larger high-output packs designed to charge laptops, the NB Air is built as a small, slender pack with a single USB-C charging port. For that reason it has a lower 18W max power output.
It works, but it will take a little longer to charge your phone than faster options. If you want faster charging, you have to go with a larger pack: 22.5W on some 10,000mAh models or 30W on something like an Anker, and really fast charging means the 100W and 165W high-capacity beasts. The NB Air trades speed for size, and that trade makes sense for daily carry.
Battery Sizes Compared
To put the NB Air in context, there are three main size tiers worth knowing. Midsize 10,000mAh packs are good for charging multiple devices or one device multiple times, and suit heavy phone users who rely on navigation and maps, which drain power quickly. Small 5,000mAh packs like the NB Air are the daily carry tier, good for about one full charge. The largest tier, 20,000 to 25,000mAh packs, are heavier and more robust with huge capacity and high power output for devices like laptops. As a reference, a 25,000mAh pack with 165W output could charge two 15-inch Dell laptops at the same time, since each only requires 45W.
Buying Advice
If you are looking for a small, extremely slim battery for charging your cell phone on the road, the NB Air is the smallest one I know of that still delivers a real charge. Choose it if you value the wallet-slim form factor, the IPX7 waterproofing, and one reliable phone charge over fast charging speeds. Choose a larger 10,000mAh pack if you charge multiple devices or use navigation heavily, and a 20,000mAh-plus pack if you need to power a laptop.

Conclusion
The Nitecore NB Air 5000mAh earns its place as a minimalist traveler’s power bank: roughly 90 grams, wallet-slim, waterproof to IPX7, and good for a full charge on most phones. Its 18W output is the compromise you accept for that size. If the smallest possible backup battery is your priority, this is the one to beat.
