Nike Vomero 18 vs Nike Vomero Premium: Which Max Cushion Shoe Makes More Sense?
Nike split the Vomero line into three max cushion shoes. Here is how the cheaper Vomero 18 stacks up against the bouncier, pricier Vomero Premium.
Introduction
In 2025, Nike split the Vomero line into three max cushion shoes: the Vomero 18, the Vomero Plus, and the Vomero Premium. All three share the same goal, delivering protection, comfort, and a shoe you can spend a lot of time in, but they use Nike’s cushioning technologies in slightly different ways.
This comparison focuses on the two ends of the range: the Vomero 18, the cheapest of the three, and the Vomero Premium. Both earned praise in multi-tester evaluations, so the real question is whether you should save money with the 18 or spend big on the Premium.
Fit and Comfort
Both shoes are built for comfort, and there is not a huge amount of difference between them in the key areas. You get plenty of padding around the heel collars and the tongues, and the room up front in the toe box is very good on both. The midfoot hold is solid as well.

The laces differ slightly: the Premium gets a more textured set, while the 18 has a more standard pair, but this does not really add to or take away from the running experience. The padded tongues mean lockdown around the midfoot can take a little time to settle, but once laced properly, the shoes stay put. For most people, sticking with their usual Nike size should be the way to go in both.
Ride Feel: Nike Vomero 18
The Vomero 18 uses a dual-density midsole: ZoomX foam, borrowed from Nike’s racing-focused shoes for bounce and liveliness, cradled by React X foam, which helps create a very stable and controlled feeling in the ride. Combined with the shoe’s naturally broad platform, that stability is one of its defining traits.
There is a noticeable rocker in the shoe, though not an aggressive or pronounced one. With the ZoomX foam and that gentle rocker feel, the shoe ticks over smoothly at an easy clip. Like most max cushion shoes, it is best designed for easy and recovery paces, but many runners will feel comfortable picking up the pace slightly, going from easy to moderate. It is not the shoe for tempo or interval sessions, but it offers more pace flexibility than you might expect.

The outsole is a real strength, with a strong level of rubber. Coverage is not full, but the shoe should withstand a lot of running time and even handle a little light off-road use.
Ride Feel: Nike Vomero Premium
From above, the two shoes look similar. Flip them on their side and it is a totally different story. The Premium uses a big stack of ZoomX foam, and only ZoomX foam, plus huge Air Zoom pods in the forefoot and heel. Nike is taking features from its racing shoes and putting them in a shoe designed to be comfortable first and foremost.
Step into the Premium and you sink in more than in the 18. It feels more comfortable and noticeably more bouncy, with no React X foam reining things in. The Air Zoom pods add to the high-rebound feeling, and while there is also a notable rocker, the foam and pods together create a more pronounced rocker sensation than the 18.

For most runners, this will be an easy run and recovery day shoe, or a long run option when you want liveliness plus comfort. Some runners will manage slightly faster sessions in it, but the weight counts against the Premium more than it does the 18 for regular faster work. The outsole is also good, arguably with a bit more coverage than the 18, though the 18’s rubber is slightly thicker in places. Grip has been good on both, including in wet conditions, and both should handle lighter trails without being beaten up. One quirk worth knowing: the Premium’s big ZoomX stack makes it noticeably squeaky compared to the 18. It does not affect the running experience, but it is a notable difference.
Which One Should You Buy?
The first factor is price. There is a huge price difference between the Vomero 18 and the Vomero Premium. If you are willing to spend that money on the Premium, you get arguably the more enjoyable, fun, bouncy, and comfortable shoe of the two, and it showcases one of Nike’s best cushioning technologies.

On the other hand, the Vomero 18 is likely the better fit for most runners. It is better value, offers more versatility, and feels naturally more stable than the Premium, which is still impressive for a big stack shoe but clearly the less stable of the pair. The 18 can cover easy and recovery runs just as well while also handling slightly quicker paces more comfortably. If you want the funniest, liveliest, bounciest experience mainly for easy and recovery runs and have the budget, the Premium delivers a memorable ride. For most people, though, the Vomero 18 makes more sense from a value, versatility, and overall usefulness standpoint.
Conclusion
Both are very good max cushion shoes from Nike. The Vomero 18 is the sensible pick: better value, more versatile, and naturally more stable, making it the choice for most runners. The Vomero Premium is the fun, bouncy upgrade for easy and recovery days, provided you are happy to spend the extra money.
