New Balance SC Elite v3 Review: A Do-It-All Super Shoe
The renamed successor to the RC Elite keeps its balanced rocker and FuelCell cushioning while adding a softer knit upper and improved stability.
Introduction
The SC Elite v3 continues the lineage formerly known as the RC Elite, sitting within New Balance’s Super Shoe lineup. It keeps FuelCell cushioning and the familiar stack dimensions, while several refinements nudge the formula in the right direction. After some time in it, the picture is clear: this is a shoe built to do a little bit of everything rather than dominate a single discipline.
Upper and Fit Changes
The upper gets the most visible update with a soft, knit-like construction that feels very sock-like and comfortable around the foot. It is a genuine comfort upgrade over its predecessor.
There is one caveat worth knowing before buying. The lacing system tends to bite into the foot, and the final eyelet in particular digs into the lateral side of the foot at times. Downhill running can also produce noticeable pressure. It was not a deal breaker for most runs, but it is annoying enough to notice.

Ride and Rocker Geometry
The stack height remains 40mm overall with 36mm in the forefoot, keeping a 4mm drop, and FuelCell cushioning carries over. The rocker is balanced rather than aggressive, with less toe spring than some competing super shoes.
The result is a ride that works at both slow and fast paces. It feels like a jack of all trades: versatile enough to run any distance just fine, though perhaps not the top pick at any one specific distance. Some may see that as the people’s Super Shoe, a shoe that does everything without feeling narrowly aimed at race day only.

Outsole and Stability
Traction on the outsole was solid throughout testing. A deep midline groove helps keep the foot centered, and combined with the wide platform it adds a noticeable sense of stability underfoot.

Transitions felt smoother here than in the RC Elite v2, which speaks to how the geometry and outsole work together.
Things to Consider Before Buying
The lacing pressure is the main trade-off, especially on downhill stretches. Runners with sensitive feet on the lateral side may want to experiment with lacing patterns. On the other hand, if you value a balanced ride over a hyper-aggressive rocker, this shoe deliberately avoids that extreme.
Buying Advice
The SC Elite v3 suits runners who want one versatile super shoe for daily tempo work, long runs, and everything in between. If you need maximum specialization for a single race distance, other options may edge it out, but as an all-around pick it holds its own.

Conclusion
The SC Elite v3 is a solid entry in the current super shoe market, refining the RC Elite formula with a softer upper, better stability, and smoother transitions. For runners after a balanced, do-everything ride, it moves clearly in the right direction.
