A hands-on look at Misen's newly redesigned non-stick cookware set, covering the lineup options, design changes, and how it performs with eggs and pancakes.

Introduction

Misen, a direct-to-consumer company known for cookware, kitchen knives, and accessories like cutting boards and utensils, has launched a newly designed version of its non-stick cookware collection. This first look covers what is in the box, what has changed compared with the previous generation, how the set is priced, and how it performs right out of the box with a couple of classic tests: eggs and pancakes.

The verdict up front: the new set looks great, feels sturdy, and performs very well in initial testing. Longer-term durability will take a few months of use to properly assess, but the early signs are favorable.

Who This Cookware Set Is For

This set suits home cooks who want easy food release without much oil or butter, appreciate a sleek modern look, and cook on any type of stovetop. It is a practical fit for everyday tasks like eggs, pancakes, sauces, and sauteed dishes.

One important consideration: all Misen products, including this cookware, are made in China. If made-in-the-US origin is a priority for you, this is worth knowing before you buy.

Set Options and Pricing

The five-piece set includes a 10-inch frying pan, a 3-quart saucier with lid, and a 3-quart saute pan with lid. All of this costs $225 on Misen.com.

If you want a fuller kitchen setup, there are two larger configurations:

  • The 9-piece set adds a 12-inch frying pan with lid and an 8-quart stock pot with lid.
  • The 12-piece set adds everything in the 9-piece set plus a 2-quart saucier and a 6-quart rondo.

You can also buy pieces individually. The 10-inch frying pan is $65, the saucier is $85, and the saute pan is $95. Buying the full five-piece set saves about $20 compared with purchasing the three pans separately, but if you do not need all three, buying only the pieces you need is still a very fair price.

Design and Build Quality

The new collection has a sleek black exterior with a ceramic-style coating, mirrored stainless steel handles, and black rivets on the interior that blend neatly into the color of the non-stick coating. Many cookware brands use plain steel rivets here, so this small detail gives the interior a cleaner, more finished look.

The lids are tempered glass with a soft, rubbery border to help seal in moisture. The non-stick interior has a slightly textured finish rather than a completely smooth, glass-like surface. It feels almost like fine sandpaper to the touch, which is typical of many modern non-stick coatings.

A steel plate on the base makes the cookware compatible with all cooktops, including induction.

What Has Changed From the Previous Version

Compared with the first-generation Misen non-stick pans, the new version makes three notable changes:

  1. The removable silicone handle wrapper is gone. The new handle is a single molded design.
  2. The handle shape is more rounded with a comfortable grip, where the old handle was flat.
  3. The exterior finish is new: the old pans had a shiny silvery aluminum exterior, while the new collection uses a black coated exterior.

One thing to be aware of with the new finish: the black exterior coating can chip and flake over time, especially if you use the pans on a gas stove with cast iron grates and accidentally slide them around. How quickly that happens remains to be seen, but out of the box the finish looks excellent.

Care and Use Guidelines

The included care guidance is standard for non-stick cookware and worth following if you want the coating to last:

  • Hand wash only
  • No metal utensils
  • Low to medium heat on the stove
  • Oven-safe to 450 degrees Fahrenheit

Initial Performance Tests

The classic first test for any non-stick pan is eggs. Heated to slightly below medium with a small amount of butter, the pan showed zero sticking. The eggs slid around freely, flipped cleanly, and produced nice over-easy results exactly as a brand-new non-stick pan should.

Golden pancake cooking evenly in a non-stick frying pan

Pancakes were the second test, preheated to medium with a little butter. After letting the pancake cook undisturbed for a couple of minutes, it flipped with no sticking at all and came out evenly browned. Based on these initial tests, the cookware heats up quickly, distributes heat evenly, and releases food cleanly.

Buying Advice

At $225 for the five-piece set, this collection sits at a reasonable price for what you get, and individual pieces are sensibly priced if you only need one or two pans. If you cook eggs, pancakes, and sauces regularly and want easy release with minimal fat, this set is a strong candidate.

If you are comparing direct-to-consumer cookware brands, it is worth looking at Caraway as well, one of Misen’s biggest competitors in this space. And keep in mind that durability is the open question: the black exterior coating may chip on cast iron grates, and only months of regular use will show how the non-stick coating holds up.

Conclusion

The new Misen non-stick cookware set makes a strong first impression. It looks sharp, feels sturdy, handles all cooktops including induction, and delivered flawless food release in initial egg and pancake tests. The main watch items are the chip-prone black exterior on cast iron grates and the usual non-stick care rules: hand washing, no metal utensils, and moderate heat. If the coating holds up over time, this could be an excellent everyday cookware choice at a fair price.
