Luba 1 Plus Robot Lawn Mower Review: A Tank Built for Big Yards
An RTK-guided robot mower with real steel blades and tracked drive, tested on a 3-acre property. Here's how it performs and where it needs patience.
Introduction
The Luba 1 Plus is an RTK-guided robot lawn mower aimed at large properties, and it takes an unusually blunt approach to the category: instead of small razors, it carries actual lawn mower blades, and instead of wheels, it rides on tracks. On a 3-acre yard with gardens, a play set, trees, and a barn with a metal roof, it handled the whole property without perimeter wires and produced a cut quality that stands well above typical robot mowers.
First Impressions: The Tank of Robot Mowers
This is a big machine for a robot mower. The nickname “the tank” fits: it is massive, it cruises through the yard at a confident pace, and its strong vacuum stands the grass up before the blades cut it. Speed is adjustable from the app, and the default pace you see is by no means its limit; it can go faster or slower depending on how you set it.
Mowing height goes up to just over 3 inches at the top end, and the cut looks remarkably even at that height. The mower does not need to run two or three times a week just to keep the lawn presentable. It can take down a serious amount of grass in one pass, yet it is still light in footprint enough to send out several times a week without stressing the lawn, which is generally better for the grass than chopping off 6 or 8 inches at once.

The RTK Setup Makes or Breaks This Mower
The single most important tip for this mower is to mount the RTK system high. Mounted near the top of a house, the signal reaches across the entire yard, around trees, past the metal-roofed barn, and all the way into the backyard. That elevated positioning is what gives the mower the accuracy it needs on a large property. If you plan to put the RTK station only 8 to 10 feet off the ground and hope it covers 3 acres, that is probably not ideal. You will need a spot to mount it up high with power available.

Once the RTK station is placed, expect a tedious but worthwhile setup phase. Take your time walking the mower around the property to define edges, and think about where a slight overlap onto concrete or asphalt can reduce trimming later. Around play sets and landscaping, decide deliberately how close the mower should get: right up next to some items, but with a safety margin near others. And remember, these are real steel mower blades, not flimsy razors. This machine will take out plants without hesitation, so a slightly drifted cut near delicate landscaping can leave you with trimmed flowerbeds.
Cut Quality and Mowing Patterns
Because it uses RTK GPS, this mower does not wander aimlessly the way older random-navigation robots did. It lays straight, defined lines, and you can adjust those patterns in the app. If you like stripes, have it mow the zone perimeter first and then work the lines; if it sets up lines and then starts on the perimeter, it tends to walk across the center of the yard to reach different areas, which muddies the stripe pattern.
For a truly polished look, set it to cut twice, once in each direction, for a square pattern. It takes twice the time, but you are not the one out there doing it.

Noise is a bit more pronounced than many other robot mowers, partly because we ran the blades in power mode with a turbo option above that. You can stand next to it and hold a conversation, and it would not disrupt a backyard party. For the best cut, either slow the mower down a little at standard blade speed, or keep the speed and raise the blade speed. Both approaches get you essentially the same quality result, depending on your grass.
One simple maintenance tip: remove the small side flap, held by three screws, so grass exits the side. In dry conditions it does not affect mulching, but in wet conditions it improves airflow through the deck and stops grass from packing on top of the mower. In setup, tell it to travel so things exit on the right-hand side.
Pros and Cons
The steel mower blades are a huge pro, along with the tracked drive. The traction lets it push through holes and ruts in the yard without issue, and 99% of the time that is a genuine advantage. There are no perimeter wires, and the app is very user-friendly for adjusting speeds, patterns, and obstacle handling, letting you fine-tune nearly everything about how it cuts your yard.

The trade-offs are real but manageable. This is a premium-priced machine, though comparable mowers in the same price bracket do not offer both tracks and real mower blades. The app can feel busy at first if you are not tech-savvy, but about an hour with it and you can make the mower do nearly anything. And it is large and heavy, so carrying it from the back of the yard to the front can be a chore if you are not a bigger person. Its programming also persists: if it did not complete a pass cleanly the first time, it will try again, which is great for coverage but means a drifted line near landscaping can still clip it.
Buying Advice
Is it worth it? Yes, provided you can mount the RTK system up high with power at that spot. Precision on a large yard depends entirely on that elevated signal. If you want the most manicured lawn possible from a robot and you are comparing options against riding a zero-turn, this is the one to choose, because actual lawn mower blades make the difference. If you love having a beautiful lawn but get no joy from riding a mower or investing in all the equipment a large yard demands, this is a very sensible route.
Conclusion
The Luba 1 Plus is big, loud by robot standards, and priced like a premium machine, but it delivers something most robot mowers cannot: a genuine, manicured cut on a large property with no perimeter wires and real traction. Give the RTK placement the attention it deserves, take your time with edge setup, and it will keep a 3-acre yard looking sharp without you ever climbing onto a mower.
