La Sportiva Prodigio Pro Long Run Review: Cushioned Trail Comfort That Holds Up Over Big Miles
After 60 miles of testing and a 14-mile long run across sand, gravel, and compacted trails, the Prodigio Pro continues to impress with its fit, cushioning, and grip.
Introduction
The La Sportiva Prodigio Pro has been quietly racking up miles in my rotation, and after roughly 60 miles of mixed terrain, it was time for a proper long run test. The conditions could not have been better, so I took the shoes on a 14-mile route with a genuine mix of surfaces: a mile of road to reach the trails, soft sand across the dunes, gravelly stony sections, and compacted pathways. Nothing overly technical, but enough variety to see how the shoe really behaves when the legs get tired.
Who This Product Is For
The Prodigio Pro works best for runners with medium to narrow foot shapes who want a well-cushioned trail shoe for dry, flowing routes. After the initial run, I was unsure whether going up half a size to a UK 10 was the right call, since that is my usual move in La Sportiva shoes. With good mileage now behind me, it was clearly the right decision. The length is just right, the toe box has good width, and the midfoot lockdown feels secure.

One thing to be honest about: this is not a wide shoe, and it is quite shallow at the midfoot. The bootie-style upper is very fitted. If you have added width or depth to your foot, you may struggle with the fit. It is not the most stable option on technical ground either, because the depth of cushioning costs you a little ground feel, but on the kind of trails most runners actually train on, that trade-off is easy to live with.
Cushioning and Ride
The standout feature is the X Flow Speed TPU supercritical foam in the midsole. It is nicely cushioned, comfortable underfoot even on short sections of tarmac, and still feels responsive enough to make the shoe feel efficient and genuinely fun to run in. Across soft sand, stony gravel, and compacted trails, it soaked up the terrain and delivered strong levels of energy return and underfoot protection.

On today’s dry, compacted, and rocky trails, the comfort was top-notch. This is a midsole that makes long runs feel easier, which is exactly what a cushioned trail shoe should do.
Fit and Upper
For my foot shape, the upper fits just right. The lockdown is secure enough that I honestly reckon you could take the laces out and still run in them without issues. The midfoot hugs the foot well, the heel hold is excellent, and the padded ribs worked into the tongue area add a noticeable layer of comfort. It is a well-thought-out upper that stays out of the way over long distances.
Grip and Durability
The Prodigio Pro uses La Sportiva’s FriXion White outsole, which is described as their grippiest rubber compound to date. On dry, loose trails, soft sand, and gravelly stony paths, it delivered good levels of grip and traction. I have historically got on well with La Sportiva outsoles, and this one is no exception in terms of performance.

Durability is the one open question. After about 60 miles, I am seeing a little wear on the lugs on the outside of the heel. I have not run a lot of tarmac in them, just occasional road sections to reach the trails, so I am not fully convinced about outsole longevity just yet. Every other aspect of the shoe, though, has me convinced.
Buying Advice
If your routes lean toward dry, mixed, non-technical terrain and you value cushioned comfort with a secure fit, the Prodigio Pro is an easy recommendation. Consider a half size up if you usually size that way in La Sportiva, and think twice if you have a wide or high-volume foot. If technical stability is your priority, look elsewhere. For everything else, this shoe is a genuine contender for race day, and I would not be surprised if they are on my feet at upcoming races.

Conclusion
The Prodigio Pro continues to impress with its fit, feel, and performance. The X Flow Speed TPU midsole delivers a comfortable, responsive ride, the upper provides an exceptional lockdown for medium to narrow feet, and the FriXion White outsole grips well on dry mixed trails. Outsole wear is the only question mark after 60 miles, but as a different type of trail shoe for La Sportiva, it is a resounding success and easy to recommend for runners whose routes match its strengths.
