Kiprun Kipride Max Review: A Max Cushion Daily Trainer That Punches Above Its Price

Kiprun's new Kipride Max brings a stacked multi-foam midsole, big rocker and plush comfort to daily miles, with more pace range than most max cushion shoes manage.

Introduction

Kiprun’s latest daily trainer arrives with a simple brief: maximum cushion, maximum comfort, and a bit more fun than the category usually allows. The Kipride Max is a max cushion daily trainer built around a big stack of mixed foams, a pronounced rocker and some surprisingly premium upper details. After extensive testing, it has proved a genuinely pleasant surprise and arguably the strongest Kiprun shoe to date.

Key Specs and Pricing

The stack measures 42 mm in the heel and 36 mm in the forefoot, giving a 6 mm drop. Weight comes in at 10.1 oz (285 g) in a UK 8 / US 9. In the US, the shoe sells at $160; in the UK it sits just under £120, which undercuts most big-brand max cushion trainers considerably.

Midsole and Upper Details

The midsole blends EVA and PEBA foams, tuned by Kiprun to deliver cushioning with a dose of pop. The brand claims 69 percent energy return, and in practice the ride feels softer than dense but livelier than most max stack shoes. Up top there is a 3D warp knit upper with well-padded heel collars, paired with a thin gusseted tongue that saves weight while keeping a little padding to avoid lace pinch. Lacing is conventional with plenty of reinforcements, which bodes well for durability.

Underfoot, substantial rubber covers the heel impact zones, with strategic pads in the forefoot. Early testing raised a small question over grip on some slick treated paving stones, but across later runs in testing weather, traction held up fine on ordinary roads and pavements.

Fit and Sizing

Fit feedback is mixed across testers, which suggests you should size carefully. One tester ran a half size down from usual and found it workable, though a touch of extra forefoot volume would have helped on runs beyond 90 minutes. Another, who normally sizes down in Kiprun racing shoes, actually went half a size up here for a roomy toe box and still got excellent heel and midfoot hold. A practical tip: use the centimetre sizing guide on Kiprun’s site if you can, since the fit can differ from other Kiprun models.

One standout upper detail is the flexible heel. Max stack shoes often carry a strict internal heel counter, and the softer approach here makes the shoe more comfortable and less likely to irritate the Achilles.

Ride and Performance

Out of the box, comfort is excellent. The shoe feels instantly at home on the foot, noticeably more premium and well put together than previous Kiprun cushion shoes. On the road, it delivers the soft, protective ride you expect from a max cushion daily, but without feeling soggy or labored. The foam blend gives back a pleasing amount of bounce, and the shoe runs lighter and livelier than its stats suggest.

It handles marathon pace willingly, even if it is not the first shoe you would pick for tempo work. The wider base keeps things stable and balanced, with only a little wobble if you land far back in the soft heel, which disappears when landing mid to forefoot. The rocker helps transitions feel smooth, so you are not digging yourself out of the softness at each foot strike.

Around 70 km and over 700 km of combined testing covered easy runs, progression runs, a long run and some quicker strides. Verdicts from both testers landed in the same place: a really, really good shoe, a step up over most cushioned trainers tested recently, and excellent value for money, particularly in the UK.

Things to Consider Before Buying

The shoe is reasonably heavy for the category, and it is not as squishy soft as some rivals. If you want maximum bounce above all else, other options exist, though they tend to cost more. Fit is the other variable: some runners will be fine in their usual size, while others may prefer to adjust up or down half a size.

Buying Advice

For marathon training blocks or anyone hoovering up high daily mileage, this is a strong, durable, comfortable choice that will likely last many hundreds of miles. It sits comfortably alongside the big cushioned names in the category while undercutting them on price, making it one of the best cushioned shoes on the market once performance and price are weighed together.

Conclusion

The Kiprun Kipride Max changes what to expect from the brand. It is protective, energetic, smooth and well balanced, with a wide pace range that covers easy miles and pushes up when needed. For the price, it is a very strong contender in the cushioned shoe market and a shoe a lot of runners will enjoy.
