Introduction

The Kaweco AL Sport Dutch Pen Show 2025 Waterworld Edition is a special aluminum version of one of the most recognisable pocket pens around. Made for the 2025 Dutch Pen Show, it arrives in an aqua blue anodized finish that genuinely pops, and it carries a commemorative engraving in the show’s characteristic font.

Kaweco fans will know the formula already: a short pocket pen that posts into a comfortable full-sized writer. This edition wraps that familiar formula in a nautical-themed package and a limited production run, at roughly €125.

Who This Product Is For

This pen suits a few distinct buyers. Collectors of show-exclusive pens will appreciate the commemorative engraving and the limited availability. Anyone who wants a pocketable everyday writer with a bit more heft than the plastic Sport line will like the aluminum build. And if you simply enjoy vibrant, cheerful pen colors, this aquamarine blue is one of the more striking Kaweco finishes in recent memory.

If you are looking for a large, unposted pen or a flex nib, this is not that. It is a small, user-focused pen meant to be carried, posted, and enjoyed.

First Impressions

Out of the box, the color is the story. It is an aquamarine aqua blue that stands out even against pale skin, and Kaweco has done a nice job with it. The barrel is straight with a slight taper near the end and a small dimple at the bottom, in classic Sport fashion.

The cap top carries the Kaweco and Company logo, a vintage-looking mark that has aged well. The barrel is engraved with Kaweco AL Sport, Germany, and Dutch Pen Show lettering on the opposite side in the show’s own font, which is a tasteful touch rather than a loud logo.

Next to a Pilot Metropolitan, the Sport is clearly shorter, and unposted it is too small for many hands to write comfortably with. Posted, however, it becomes what most people would call a genuinely full-sized pen. The aluminum body adds a bit more weight and heft than the plastic version, and it feels a touch more robust as a result.

What’s in the Box

Packaging is part of the charm here. The tin gets a special cardboard sleeve designed by an artist from the pen community, with a nautical theme that fits the Waterworld name nicely. It is a fun idea that helps set this edition apart and partly justifies the higher price.

Inside the sleeve is the standard Kaweco tin, which remains one of the more charming packaging choices in the industry with its vintage feel. Inside that you get the pen itself, filling instructions, and stickers, including a sheet of the nautical symbols from the sleeve design. Stickers everywhere, two of them to be precise.

How It Writes

The nib is gold-plated steel, available in extra fine, fine, medium, or broad, with the Kaweco logo and the grade marking on the nib itself. This example is a fine. The feed is plastic, and the pen fills with standard cartridges or Kaweco’s fold-away converter. For testing, the included Kaweco blue cartridge was used, though a turquoise cartridge would have been a fitting match for the pen’s color.

The fine nib writes nicely. Kaweco’s broader nibs can occasionally feel overpolished, but the fines tend to be less affected and work quite well. In quick testing there were no real skips. It is a fairly dry writer, though part of that comes down to the not-so-wet Kaweco blue ink.

The nib is nicely round, with no wider downstrokes versus sidestrokes. It is not a flex nib, though a little line variation can be coaxed out with careful pressure. Reverse writing is not this nib’s strength: the flow dries out quickly and it turns scratchy, so it is best enjoyed the conventional way around.

Things to Consider Before Buying

Price is the main consideration. At roughly €125, this is not a cheap Sport, though the tie-in nature, the sleeve, and the limited production explain part of the premium. There is no confirmed production number, so it appears to be produced in a limited quantity for a period rather than a fixed count.

Posted, the cap meets the barrel in a way that can produce small scratches over time. That said, these are user pens by design: pocket carry, pocket dings, and honest wear are part of their appeal.

On the practical side, Kaweco’s steel nibs are interchangeable, so you can build a small arsenal from extra fine up to double broad by swapping the nib and feed units. That keeps long-term ownership flexible and affordable.

Buying Advice

Buy this if you want a collectible, pocketable writer with real everyday utility and a color that stands out in any pen case. The aluminum body, commemorative engraving, and nautical sleeve make it more than a standard AL Sport, and Kaweco’s reliability means you know what you are getting. If €125 feels steep for a pocket pen, the standard AL Sport line delivers much of the same experience without the show-exclusive extras.

Conclusion

The Kaweco AL Sport Dutch Pen Show 2025 Waterworld Edition is a well-made, vibrant pocket pen that writes nicely and looks genuinely special. It is a little pricey, and the lack of a stated production count may bother strict collectors, but as a user pen with collectible appeal it lands solidly. For fans of Kaweco or of the Dutch Pen Show, it is an easy pen to like.
