eLk Live LTM 01 Review: A Tape Measure and Laser Measure in One Tool

The eLk Live LTM 01 combines a 16-foot locking tape measure with a laser measure rated to 197 feet. Here is how it performs in real measuring tasks.

Introduction

Combining two tools into one usually means compromising on both. The eLk Live LTM 01 is an interesting exception: it packs a tape measure and a laser measure into a single unit, so you carry one device instead of two. That concept alone makes it worth a closer look for anyone who measures things for a living or as a serious hobby.

What Is the eLk Live LTM 01?

The LTM 01 is essentially a hybrid of a traditional tape measure and a laser distance measure. The tape side is a 16-foot blade with a locking mechanism that keeps it extended where you position it, and the laser side handles longer distances. A screen on top shows your readings, and the box includes a USB charging cable and a manual that covers the full feature set in detail.

Everyday Measuring Performance

One standout detail is the magnetic tape tip, which lets you lock the blade onto metal surfaces. That is not something every premium tape measure offers, and it makes solo measuring noticeably easier.

In testing, the tape blade held out to just over seven feet before retracting under its own tension, which is normal behavior for a shorter blade. Accuracy checks against the built-in tape were encouraging: a two-foot check came back at 2 feet, 0 and 2/16 inches, which is essentially dead on.

The back-reference mode is the feature that sells the hybrid concept. You can measure from either the front or the back of the tool, so hooking it into a door jamb and measuring across gives you the full width in one shot. A standard door jamb measured at 31.3 inches on the laser versus roughly 31.5 inches on the tape, which is close enough for most layout work.

Laser Modes and Longer Distances

The laser is rated up to 197 feet, which opens up measuring tasks a 16-foot tape simply cannot reach. Beyond single and continuous measurements, the unit supports area and volume calculations, plus addition and subtraction of readings. There is a lot of measurement functionality packed into this form factor, and the manual documents most of the deeper features you might otherwise miss.

Things to Consider Before Buying

The trade-offs are mostly about size and blade length. The 16-foot tape is shorter than the 25-foot blades many people prefer, and the housing is necessarily a bit thicker and lighter than a dedicated tape measure because of the laser hardware inside. If you rarely need more than 16 feet of tape, none of this will bother you; if you do, the laser covers the gap up to 197 feet anyway.

Buying Advice

This tool makes the most sense if you currently carry both a tape measure and a laser measure and would rather consolidate them. The magnetic tip, locking blade, and back-reference measuring mode add genuine convenience, and having a laser as a backup for anything beyond arm’s reach is a practical safety net. It is a good fit for DIYers, installers, and anyone doing interior layout work.

Conclusion

The eLk Live LTM 01 delivers on its core promise: one unit that measures like a tape measure up close and like a laser measure at distance, with a few clever modes in between. If you want to simplify your toolkit without losing measurement capability, it is an easy recommendation.
