EGO LM2125SP Review: A Self-Propelled Battery Mower With Real Power

EGO's 21-inch self-propelled LM2125SP brings a 7.5 Ah battery, 140cc-equivalent cutting torque, and clever speed controls. Here is how it performed in testing.

Introduction

EGO has built one of the broadest battery-powered lawn mower lineups on the market, and the LM2125SP sits comfortably in the middle of it. This 21-inch self-propelled model launched for the spring season with a larger battery, a strong 140cc-equivalent cutting torque, and control details that make it noticeably easier to live with than entry-level alternatives. After testing it in real cutting conditions, including some genuinely damp and overgrown grass, we came away impressed by how well it balances power, runtime, and usability.

Who This Product Is For

The LM2125SP is a good match for homeowners with a medium to large yard who want self-propelled convenience without the noise, fumes, and maintenance of a gas mower. It is especially appealing if you want enough runtime to finish a full maintenance cut on one charge, and if you value being able to fine-tune your walking speed on the fly. Buyers who want EGO’s absolute lowest price or the highest-end features like Select Cut or Speed IQ may want to step down or up in the lineup, but this model hits a practical middle ground.

Design and Build

The mower uses EGO’s typical poly deck, which helps deliver strong airflow underneath the cutting chamber. Height adjustment is handled through a single-point lever that runs from 1.25 inches up to 4 inches, a range that covers nearly every common grass species in the United States. The handle height has two positions, and folding the handles all the way around enables vertical storage, which is a genuine space saver in a crowded garage.

One practical touch is the translucent battery door. Press any control button and the battery’s charge indicator lights up, so you can glance down mid-cut and see how much power you have left without stopping to open anything.

Controls and Self-Propelled Drive

This is where the LM2125SP earns its price. Starting the mower follows the usual EGO sequence: press the power button, then pull the presence bar. Do it in the wrong order and nothing happens, which is a minor quirk rather than a real problem. Once running, the blade gets six foot-pounds of torque, roughly equivalent to a 140cc gas engine, and the mower stays impressively quiet while doing it.

When the blade hits thicker grass, the mower automatically raises RPM and power to push through without bogging down. During testing, taking off an inch and a half to two inches of growth with occasional patches of three to four inches, it adjusted smoothly every time.

The self-propelled speed control is one of the best designs in the category. Two paddles engage the drive, and the speed dial clicks through distinct positive steps rather than sliding freely, so your setting never bumps out of position. You can adjust speed while holding either paddle, and top speed is a comfortable walking pace even for taller users with a long stride. If you need to back away from an obstacle, the drive releases easily so the wheels do not fight you. An LED switch lets you turn the headlights on and off manually, and a separate LED indicator flashes red when the battery is running low.

Battery Life and Performance

The single-battery port ships with a beefy 7.5 Ah battery, one of the key upgrades over EGO’s entry-level self-propelled models. EGO claims up to an hour of runtime on a full charge. In testing on St Augustine, a heavier and tougher grass than most species, a regular maintenance cut ran 55 minutes, so the hour-long estimate feels realistic.

EGO also rates the mower at about 45 minutes under medium load and about 30 minutes under heavy load, which matches the expectations you would have cutting overgrown or dense grass.

Three-in-One Cutting Options

The LM2125SP is a true three-in-one mower. It comes with a bagger installed, plus a mulching plug and a rear discharge chute in the box, all of which mount in the same rear opening and swap in minutes. The included 21-inch blade is a mulching blade; the Select Cut multi-blade system is reserved for higher-priced models in EGO’s range.

Cut quality was strong in dry conditions, both bagging and mulching. As with most mowers, wet grass is the weak spot: cutting damp St Augustine and Bahia did not bag or mulch well, though the mower still handled the cut itself fine.

Buying Advice

At $649 as a kit with the 7.5 Ah battery and charger, the LM2125SP positions itself as one of EGO’s mid-range mowers. If you want the highest value at the lowest price, EGO’s entry-level options are worth a look. If you want maximum power and the newest features like Speed IQ, the upper tiers make sense. But for most homeowners who want strong cutting performance, an hour-class battery, and genuinely well-thought-out controls, this model is the sensible sweet spot.

Conclusion

The EGO LM2125SP delivers gas-equivalent cutting torque, a realistic hour of runtime, and a self-propelled system that is a pleasure to use, all at a mid-range price. Its limitations are the usual ones for battery mowers: reduced bagging and mulching quality in wet grass and a single battery port. For a homeowner upgrading from gas or stepping up from a basic battery mower, it is one of the most complete options in EGO’s 2026 lineup.
