Chowodon Feiyang Plaid 3 Review: A Balanced Race Day Super Shoe
A dual-foam super shoe with a snug race fit, bouncy toe-off, and a Goldilocks ride that suits a wide range of marathon runners.
Introduction
Chowodon has been picking up serious momentum lately, with an exciting lineup that ranges from max cushion daily trainers up to the Feiyang Plaid 3, the brand’s race day super shoe. After plenty of requests to test it, the Plaid 3 finally got its first outing as a final pre-marathon workout: 6 x 1 kilometer at around 10k to half marathon pace, wrapped into a 10-mile run on the soft gravel surface of a park trail.
The short version: this is a very good first impression. The ride feels less wild than it looks, the fit is dialed, and it lands squarely in the balanced, crowd-pleasing class of super shoes.
How It Runs
The Feiyang Plaid 3 makes its case from the very first step. At an easy jog, it already feels like something special: smooth, cushioned, and very bouncy. The two foams work together nicely, giving a firmer feel under the heel on landing, then a slingshot of energy through the forefoot.
When you push the pace down toward the low 5-minute-mile range, the shoe really pulls you into the toe-off phase of the stride. There is a genuine vacuum of forward energy, a nice pop at the end of each stride, and yet the ride never feels overly aggressive or out of control. Stability through corners is decent despite the gravel, and the snug race fit keeps everything feeling locked in.

For a workout at 10k to half marathon pace, it is close to ideal: comfortable enough for that volume, punchy enough when you want real speed. It almost behaves like a speed trainer in the best sense, combining cushion and comfort with real pop off the forefoot.
The Midsole: Dual-Foam Construction
Visually, the midsole looks aggressive. You get a dual-foam construction with an exposed plate sandwiched between two foam layers, a layout that will look familiar to fans of the Adidas Prime X range. In practice, though, the ride is far more restrained than the styling suggests, and that restraint works in its favor.
The heel foam is firmer, closer to an older Adidas Light Strike Pro feel, but with even more bounce and a really good foam compound. Underfoot, the stack height feels to be around 40 mm or slightly taller at the heel, with enough protection up front without tipping into max cushion territory.

The heel cutout and foam shaping even recall older Nike Vaporfly models, but with more width and substantially better stability. Unlike the Vaporfly, there is no super soft compressive feel here, and the forefoot never delivers harsh plate bite.
Things to Consider Before Buying
The main consideration is fit. The Plaid 3 runs snug, with a tight race fit similar to an older Vaporfly, maybe a touch more forgiving. Chinese brand sizing charts can also be muddled for the US market, so check your conversion carefully: in the tested size 44.5, which converts to a US 10.5, the fit leans snug.
Long-run durability is still an open question. Ten miles felt more than adequately cushioned, but how the shoe holds up beyond that remains to be seen. If you want something transcendent or top-five-in-class fast, this may not be it; instead, it sits deliberately in the balanced category.

Who This Shoe Is For
This is a shoe for the majority of marathon runners rather than the elite-only crowd. Whether you are targeting a 2:25, a 3:25, a 3:55 marathon or beyond, the Plaid 3 should feel good for workouts and for any session where you are pushing yourself over distance.
It also handles easy paces surprisingly well, feeling great during warm-up and cool-down miles. If you are shopping in the Goldilocks zone between aggressive racing and comfortable speed work, this is a natural pick. As a comparison point, it is roughly the robust, stable underfoot structure of the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 combined with the soft, balanced forefoot and superb toe-off of the Adidas Adios Pro 4.
Buying Advice
Buy the Feiyang Plaid 3 if you want one shoe that comfortably covers tempo sessions, race-pace workouts, and warm-up and cool-down miles in a race-day package. Size carefully, expect a snug race fit, and know that it has been verified only up to 10 miles of running so far.

Skip it if you want the wildest, fastest plate-feel on the market. It does not deliver a strong plate sensation, and it is positioned as a balanced, protective super shoe rather than an out-and-out speed weapon.
Conclusion
The Chowodon Feiyang Plaid 3 earns a big thumbs up and a place in the banger camp. It may not be transcendent, but it is a very good shoe on first run: bouncy, protective, stable, and genuinely enjoyable for a wide range of runners. Only more miles will tell the full story, but the early signs are excellent.
