Keeping a refrigerator running during a power outage is one of the most practical reasons to own a backup battery. The Bluetti FridgePower is designed specifically for that job. It is a slim, wall-mountable power station with a 2,016 watt-hour LFP battery, a pure sine wave inverter, and the ability to expand with additional batteries for longer run times.

This review covers the design, real-world performance, and the trade-offs to consider before buying.

Who the Bluetti FridgePower Is For

The FridgePower is a niche product aimed at anyone who wants a dedicated backup solution for their refrigerator or freezer. Its slim profile is designed to sit on top of a fridge or mount to a wall, keeping it out of the way. That makes it a better fit than a bulky cube-style power station for people who want a permanent, unobtrusive backup setup.

It is also a strong option for households that need reliable refrigeration for medication or other temperature-sensitive items. In that context, the FridgePower can function as a practical backup expense rather than just a convenience.

Design and Key Features

The FridgePower measures approximately 14 by 23 by 3 inches and weighs around 42 pounds. It has no built-in screen. Instead, there is a power button that changes from green to red if an overload occurs, and a row of five capacity indicator lights. A small portable Bluetooth screen is available as an optional accessory for monitoring exact battery percentage, input and output watts, alert icons, and even local room temperature and humidity.

Inside, the unit packs an 1,800-watt pure sine wave inverter with a 3,600-watt surge capability, which is enough to start even large refrigerators. There are two AC outlets on the back, so you can plug in two appliances at once.

Charging is handled primarily through the included 120-volt cable. There are three selectable charge rates: silent mode at 600 watts, standard mode at 1,000 watts, and turbo mode at around 1,400 watts. From dead, standard mode takes about two and a half hours to recharge, while turbo mode brings that down to under two hours.

The unit also supports direct solar charging through a built-in XT60 connector that accepts 12 to 60 volts DC at up to 20 amps or 1,000 watts. That charges the battery from dead to full in roughly the same two and a half hours as AC power. You can combine AC and solar charging to top up in just over an hour. There is also support for charging directly from DC batteries between 12 and 48 volts.

There are no 12-volt, USB, or other DC outputs on this unit. That makes sense, since it is designed to power AC refrigerators.

Real-World Refrigerator Test

To see how the FridgePower performs in a real scenario, it was connected to a mostly full, fairly large garage refrigerator. The refrigerator was set to 36 degrees and ran on battery power alone for a full 24 hours.

During startup, the compressor briefly pulled almost 1,500 watts, but settled down to about 125 watts while running. After 24 hours, the battery had used 35 percent of its capacity. That works out to roughly 2.8 days of run time on a single FridgePower battery for that particular refrigerator.

That result is solid for a mid-size, efficient refrigerator. Every refrigerator will consume power differently, so run times will vary. You can estimate your own run time by checking the kilowatt-hour rating on your refrigerator and factoring that into the 2 kWh battery capacity.

Expansion Batteries and Mounting

The FridgePower is expandable with optional expansion batteries that are identical in capacity and size to the main unit. You can add up to three additional batteries for a total of 8 kWh of backup power. Each expansion battery adds roughly another 7 days of standby time, which could mean up to 28 days of backup power depending on your refrigerator’s consumption.

The expansion batteries connect via a port on the side of the main unit. They lay sideways rather than stacking, since the connection ports are on the sides. The included mounting kit allows you to mount the main unit and expansion batteries to a wall with heavy-duty screws.

One small note: the included USB cable for charging the optional Bluetooth screen has nowhere to plug in on the unit itself, so you will need to handle that separately.

Performance and Testing Results

In AC battery capacity testing, the FridgePower scored 1,700 watt-hours out of the rated 2,016, which is an average 84 percent efficiency rating.

The phantom load parasitic drain test measured idle consumption at about 11.75 watts with the inverter enabled and nothing plugged in. Over 24 hours, that used 14 percent of the battery, or roughly 282 watt-hours. While that is slightly higher than the marketing claim of 8.5 watts, it is still a very good self-consumption rate for an 1,800-watt inverter. Leaving the inverter on at that rate would drain the battery in about 7 days, which is acceptable for a blackout backup.

At max load, the inverter pulled 2,600 watts for 5 seconds, which is a pass. A heat soak test ran the unit at 1,800 watts for five full minutes without any issues. Inverter fan noise at maximum was measured at 53 dB, which is a bit on the louder side but not extreme.

The unit also includes an audible alarm that sounds if the battery drops below 5 percent charge or if the inverter overloads. This can be disabled through the app if you prefer.

App and Battery Management

Most settings on the FridgePower are controlled through the optional app, since the only physical button is the power button. The Bluetooth screen is output only, so you cannot change settings directly on the unit.

One standout feature is the ability to set a maximum battery charge percentage. For a unit that stays plugged in 24/7, setting the charge limit to 80 or 90 percent can dramatically extend the battery’s useful life. This is something that other non-flagship Bluetti models do not offer.

The app is not required for everyday use. You can install it, configure the settings, and uninstall it afterward.

Things to Consider Before Buying

There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The FridgePower does not include any built-in surge protection. For a device designed to protect a large, expensive appliance like a refrigerator, that is a notable omission. A lightning strike or power surge could still damage your refrigerator even with the battery in place.

The unit also lacks DC outputs, which is fine for its intended purpose but limits its versatility compared to other power stations.

Additionally, this is a crowdfunding project. The super early bird price is $759 including tax and shipping, which works out to about 37 cents per watt-hour. An expansion battery costs an additional $699, and a bundle with one expansion battery gives you 4 kWh of backup power for $1,398, or less than 35 cents per watt-hour. Pricing will increase as the campaign progresses, and delivery times may be longer than a standard retail purchase.

Buying Advice

The Bluetti FridgePower makes a lot of sense if you do not already have a backup solution for your refrigerator. Its slim, wall-mountable design is a genuine improvement over bulky cube-style power stations, and the expansion options give you real flexibility for longer outages.

The lack of surge protection is a real drawback, so factor that into your decision. If you already own a general-purpose power station that can handle your fridge, the FridgePower may not be necessary. But if you want a dedicated, out-of-the-way backup that can keep your most important appliance running for days, it is worth a close look.

Conclusion
