How We Tested These Tire Inflators

Speed Test: Time to Reach 35 PSI
The speed test was the most revealing. The Noco Air15 finished first, reaching 35 PSI in just 2 minutes and 53 seconds. The Vair came in second at 3 minutes and 15 seconds, with the Asani and Gizpen tying for third at 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Slime took over 11 minutes to complete the same task, despite its claim of 10 minutes. The Carson finished in 7 minutes and 12 seconds, while the FBK took 8 minutes and 8 seconds. Several budget models fell well short of their advertised times.

The dual-cylinder designs generally performed better than single-cylinder pumps. The Young T, Asani, UP, and Gizpen all finished in under 5 minutes. The AstroAI dual cylinder model completed the test in 4 minutes and 30 seconds, while the Avid Power took nearly 7 minutes.
High-Pressure Test: Inflating a Truck Tire
High-pressure performance is where the lineup really separates. Inflating a truck tire from 50 to 60 PSI requires a pump that can maintain output under load. The Noco Air15 again took first place at 1 minute and 30 seconds. The Vair finished second at 1 minute and 57 seconds, while the Gizpen and AstroAI dual cylinder tied for third at 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
The budget models struggled noticeably. The Slime took over 8 minutes to add just 10 PSI to the truck tire. The Carson, FBK, and Fade Won’t all took around 4 minutes and 15 seconds. The EP Auto also struggled with high pressure, finishing about a minute slower than the previous five brands.

The Asani and UP both handled high pressure well, finishing in 2 minutes and 26 seconds and 2 minutes and 35 seconds respectively. The Vair was particularly impressive, completing the high-pressure test in just under 2 minutes.
Heat Build-Up and Durability
Excessive heat can damage both the pump and the air hose over time. We measured air hose temperature after each speed test to identify which models run coolest. The DeWalt was the standout performer at around 84 degrees Fahrenheit, the coolest in the entire lineup. The Noco finished second at 114 degrees, with the Slime third at around 120 degrees.
Several budget models ran dangerously hot. The POW Wools air hose exceeded 200 degrees Fahrenheit, while the AstroAI single cylinder reached around 202 degrees. The FBK hit 192 degrees and the Fade Won’t reached 183 degrees. These temperatures suggest the hoses may deteriorate faster with regular use.
The dual-cylinder models generally ran cooler. The Asani stayed at 123 degrees, the Gizpen at 125 degrees, and the UP at 130 degrees. The Vair also remained relatively cool at 124 degrees.
Power Draw and Fuse Safety
Power demand is a critical consideration, especially for vehicles with lower-rated accessory fuses. The Noco Air15 drew the most current at 20.6 amps, well above its 15-amp rating. This could burn out the cigarette lighter fuse on most vehicles. The UP drew just over 18 amps, while the Asani pulled around 17 amps.
The most efficient models were the Slime at 7 amps, the FBK at 7.88 amps, and the Fade Won’t at 9.3 amps. The DeWalt drew around 9.8 amps, making it safe for virtually any vehicle with a 15-amp fuse. The Craftsman needed about 126 watts, similar to the Avid Power.
If your vehicle has a 20-amp cigarette lighter fuse, the Gizpen is a solid choice at around $50. It performed well in every category and drew about 16 amps. For vehicles with a 15-amp fuse, the DeWalt is the safer pick with its under-10-amp draw.
Pressure Gauge Accuracy
Accurate pressure readings matter for proper tire maintenance. The DeWalt was the most accurate, matching the calibrated test gauges perfectly. The Rock Gorald R8 was close behind with just a 0.1 PSI discrepancy. The FBK was off by only 0.2 PSI, and the Fade Won’t by 0.3 PSI.
The least accurate gauges belonged to the Vair, which was off by around 3 PSI, and the UP, which was off by 2.5 PSI. The Asani was off by 1.5 PSI, while the Carson showed a 1.4 PSI discrepancy. The Slime and Young T were both off by about 1 PSI.
Noco Air15
The Noco Air15 was the fastest tire inflator in our lineup, reaching 35 PSI in just 2 minutes and 53 seconds. It also took first place in the high-pressure test at 1 minute and 30 seconds. The pump features a bright light, automatic shut off, and a compact design, though it is fairly heavy at 5.75 pounds.
The Noco is rated at 80 PSI and claims to inflate a tire from 0 to 40 PSI in 2.9 minutes. It powered itself down at 35.5 PSI during testing, and its gauge was off by just 0.4 PSI. The air hose stayed relatively cool at 114 degrees.
The main concern is power draw. The Noco pulled 20.6 amps, more than 5 amps over its rating. This will likely burn out the cigarette lighter fuse on most vehicles. It is also the most expensive option at $143 without a coupon, or around $100 with one.
Vair Tire Inflator
The Vair finished second in both the speed test and the high-pressure test. It reached 35 PSI in 3 minutes and 15 seconds and completed the truck tire test in just under 2 minutes. The pump comes in a nice carrying bag and has a duty cycle of 20 minutes.
The Vair has a maximum working pressure of 60 PSI and can inflate an 18-inch tire from 30 to 40 PSI in just over one minute. It is fairly loud at 93.2 dB and weighs 4.23 pounds. The pump draws around 210 watts or 17.5 amps.
The biggest drawback is the pressure gauge, which was off by around 3 PSI, the most in our testing. Despite this, the Vair seems well worth its $65 price for its speed and high-pressure performance.
Gizpen Tire Inflator
The Gizpen tied for third place in the speed test at 3 minutes and 30 seconds and took third in the high-pressure test at 2 minutes and 15 seconds. It is a dual-cylinder direct drive pump with a maximum pressure of 150 PSI. The manufacturer claims it can inflate a standard tire in just 1.5 minutes.
The Gizpen weighs 5.32 pounds and runs at 82.6 dB. It draws around 192 watts or 16 amps at 35 PSI. The analog gauge appeared to be right on target during testing.
At around $50, the Gizpen is a strong value. It performed well in every category and is a great choice for vehicles with a 20-amp cigarette lighter fuse.
DeWalt Tire Inflator
The DeWalt is one of the most popular tire inflators on the market, and it earned its reputation in our testing. It can be powered three ways: a 20-volt battery, 12-volt DC, or 110-volt AC. The AC power adapter, battery, and charger are sold separately.
The DeWalt offers both high-pressure inflation for tires and high-volume output for air mattresses. It is relatively quiet at 81 dB and weighs 5.55 pounds. The pump draws around 118 watts or 9.8 amps, making it safe for any vehicle with a 15-amp fuse.
The DeWalt’s pressure gauge was in perfect agreement with our calibrated test equipment. The air hose remained the coolest in the lineup at around 84 degrees. While it is not the fastest pump, finishing in close to 7 minutes, its reliability and safety make it a great choice for vehicles with 15-amp fuses.
Overall Buying Advice
The Noco Air15 is the fastest tire inflator we tested, but its high power draw makes it risky for most vehicles. If your car has a 20-amp cigarette lighter fuse, the Gizpen is the best all-around choice at around $50. It is fast, accurate, and performed well in every category.
For vehicles with a 15-amp fuse, the DeWalt is the safest pick. It draws under 10 amps, so it is unlikely to burn out a fuse. While it is slower than some competitors, its accuracy and cool-running performance make it a dependable option.
The Vair is also worth considering at $65. It is actually faster than the Gizpen, but its pressure gauge is significantly off. If you are comfortable using a separate gauge, the Vair offers excellent speed for the price.

Budget buyers should note that the cheapest models were also the slowest and ran the hottest. The Slime, Carson, and FBK all took over 7 minutes to reach 35 PSI and showed high hose temperatures. Spending a bit more on a dual-cylinder model generally delivers better speed and cooler operation.
Conclusion
