Cordless leaf blowers have become the go-to choice for homeowners and professionals who want gas-level performance without the noise, fumes, and maintenance. We gathered nine of the industry’s best models from Milwaukee, DeWalt, EGO, Ryobi, STIHL, Husqvarna, Makita, Echo, and Toro, and put them through a series of head-to-head tests to find out which one truly delivers.

Our testing covered four key areas: blowing force measured in Newtons, a ramp test that shows how far each blower can hold a 4-pound target, sound levels at ear distance, and run time on high with a fully charged battery. The results revealed some surprising winners and a few models that fell short of their specs.

How We Tested

To measure raw blowing force, we securely attached each blower to a custom testing rig. A ball-bearing guided sled was set dead center, 12 inches away from the nozzle of each blower. We trigger-locked the blowers and released the clamp holding the sled in place, creating a tug-of-war style contest we called “blow-of-war.” Each blower got two chances in a double-elimination bracket, one in the initial face-off and one in the loser bracket.

The bracket format allowed every model to show its true performance even after an early loss. The weakest blower on our Newton force test, the Echo, was cut from the bracket to make the numbers work, but it still received full testing in our other evaluations.

Blow-of-War Results

The head-to-head matchups produced some clear winners and a few upsets. In the first round, the Toro left the DeWalt behind, and the STIHL proved stronger than the EGO despite the EGO’s higher claimed CFM. The Husqvarna surprised us by losing to the whisper-quiet Ryobi, while the Milwaukee dominated the Makita.

The winner’s bracket final came down to STIHL versus Ryobi, with Ryobi taking the win by a narrow margin. STIHL then beat Toro in the loser bracket final, setting up a rematch between Ryobi and STIHL for the championship. Ryobi won decisively, making the Ryobi 800 CFM Whisper Series Blower our blow-of-war champion.

Specs and Measured Performance

Each blower brought different strengths to the table. The DeWalt DCBL777 posted a max airflow of 760 CFM, a max air speed of 160 mph, and 16.8 Newtons of measured blowing force, tested with a 9 amp hour flexible battery. The Echo DPB2610 pushed out 549 CFM with a max air speed of 158 mph, generating 15.6 Newtons, powered by a 56V 5 amp hour battery pack.

The EGO LB8803-2 delivered an impressive 880 CFM, reached 200 mph, and produced 20 Newtons of blowing force with a 56V 4 amp hour ARC lithium battery. The Husqvarna 350iB delivered 800 CFM, topped out at 200 mph, and produced 20.9 Newtons, powered by a 36V 7.7 amp hour battery.

The Makita GBU01 reached 565 CFM with a top speed of 143 mph, registering 17.7 Newtons with a 40V 4 amp hour XGT battery. The Milwaukee 2824 generated 600 CFM and hit 145 mph, producing 17.1 Newtons with an 18V 8 amp hour Forge battery pack.

The Ryobi RY40HPLP01 achieved 800 CFM, reached 180 mph, and recorded 24.8 Newtons of blowing force, one of the strongest in the lineup, using a 40V 8 amp hour Edge battery. The STIHL BGA 250 put up solid numbers with 615 CFM and a 190 mph top speed, delivering 24.4 Newtons of blowing force with the AP 500S battery. The Toro 51827 impressed with 900 CFM, 165 mph of air speed, and 22 Newtons of measured blowing force, running on a 60V 4 amp hour Flex Force battery.

Ramp Test: Measuring Real-World Blowing Strength

Our second test reinvented the rail ball-bearing sled rig to measure individual blowing strength. Each blower was set up on the rig to see how far it could push a target plate up a 30-degree incline, which takes 4 pounds of force to hold steady. This test shows how far away from the nozzle each blower can hold that 4-pound target, giving a consistent and repeatable comparison of blowing strength.

The DeWalt held the target steady from 6.25 inches away, showing solid mid-range power. The Echo, being on the lighter side, held the sled at zero, meaning no forward movement but also no lost ground. The EGO delivered impressive strength, keeping the target steady from 25.75 inches out. The Husqvarna extended that distance even further, holding 4 pounds from 31.25 inches away.

The Makita maintained its hold at 12.25 inches, a respectable middle-of-the-road performance. The Milwaukee managed only 4.75 inches before losing grip, reflecting moderate force input. The Ryobi surprised us with serious muscle, holding steady at 34.5 inches, one of the longest distances in the lineup. The STIHL impressed as well, keeping 4 pounds suspended from 30.5 inches away with strong, controlled airflow. The Toro rounded out the group at 32.25 inches, showing robust, high-end power.

Sound Levels: Which Blowers Are Quietest

Sound level is a key consideration for cordless blowers, especially in residential areas. To simulate what it feels like for the user, we measured sound from 36 inches away, roughly the distance from the blower in hand to the ear. All of these models are significantly quieter than gas blowers, but there are notable differences among them.

The quietest models were the Makita and Ryobi at 81 and 82 dB respectively. The Husqvarna was the loudest at 97 dB, with the Echo and Toro just behind at 96 dB. In practical terms, the loudest blower is more than twice as loud as the quietest, which can make a real difference during extended use or in noise-sensitive neighborhoods.

Run Time: How Long Each Blower Lasts

Run time testing was conducted on high with a fully charged battery, since battery-powered leaf blowers are designed to use turbo in short bursts rather than continuously. Testing on high gives a better representation of how much run time most people will experience in the field.

Most models fell between 11 and 18 minutes, while the Echo and Husqvarna stood out with run times of 31 to 38 minutes. The Ryobi had the shortest run time at just under 12 minutes. Run time is a balance of power and battery size, and these numbers could change if higher capacity batteries were used.

Third Place: Toro Flex Force 51827

The Toro Flex Force 51827 earned third place in our testing. We had high expectations given its eye-popping 900 CFM airflow rating, and it didn’t disappoint. It came in second in our ramp test and made it one step away from the final in our blow-of-war, proving its power among the field.

With a larger diameter nozzle than most, the Toro trades off some air speed to achieve higher airflow. Still, its Newton force measurement wasn’t too far behind the Ryobi and STIHL, telling us it has both the power and the airflow to easily tame your yard year-round. The kit costs $360 and includes a 4 amp hour Flex Force battery and a charger.

Runner-Up: STIHL BGA 250

The STIHL BGA 250 finished as the runner-up in our cordless blower roundup, just one point behind our winner. Its blowing force was only slightly trailing, and while it wasn’t the quietest, it was quieter than most. Being the runner-up in our blow-of-war, STIHL left it all out on the table to be one of the last blowers standing.

The unusual angle of the blower tube works well. The ergonomics under load are noticeably better than the straight-line inline design used by others. It may introduce a little extra air friction that slightly limits performance, but it’s clearly still producing top-tier blowing forces. If you’re looking for the best pro-focused cordless blower, the STIHL BGA 250 is it. While it’s more expensive, it has the quality and service network you need to keep your crew productive. It costs $329 as a bare tool and $769 as a kit with two AP 300S batteries and a charger.

Winner: Ryobi 800 CFM Whisper Series

The Ryobi 800 CFM Whisper Series took the top spot with a clean sweep across all of our tests. It had the highest blowing force on the Newton force meter, held 34.5 inches on our ramp test, posted some of the quietest noise levels, and won the blow-of-war championship. It doesn’t get much more dominant than that.

The only test where it struggled was run time, but even that has to be taken into context. We ran the test on high, and the Ryobi was still producing 20 Newtons at that level, the highest of the group. It makes sense that with higher blowing force, run time would be lower. However, using the cruise control to back it off to around 15 Newtons will yield much better run time numbers. With a $329 price tag for the kit, this impressive performance represents solid value.

Other Models Worth Considering

While the top three took the podium, several other models have their own strengths. The EGO LB8803-2 moves serious air with 880 CFM and 200 mph, producing 20 Newtons of force. It held the ramp target steady from 25.75 inches, a clear jump in real-world blowing power. The Husqvarna 350iB delivered 800 CFM and topped out at 200 mph, producing 20.9 Newtons and holding 4 pounds from 31.25 inches away, excellent power for its size.

The DeWalt DCBL777 offers a solid mid-range option with 760 CFM and 160 mph, though its 16.8 Newtons of force placed it lower in our rankings. For professional use, the STIHL BGA 250 is the top choice. Its ergonomic angled tube, strong blowing force, and reliable service network make it worth the higher price. The Toro Flex Force 51827 is a strong all-rounder with the highest airflow rating in the group, though its larger nozzle trades off some air speed.

If run time is your priority, the Echo and Husqvarna models offer the longest battery life at 31 to 38 minutes. For quiet operation, the Makita and Ryobi are the best options at 81 and 82 dB. Think about your yard size, how much noise you can tolerate, and whether you already own batteries in a particular brand’s ecosystem.

Conclusion

Our testing revealed that specs don’t always tell the full story. The Ryobi 800 CFM Whisper Series proved that a well-engineered blower can outperform models with higher claimed numbers, taking the top spot across all of our tests. The STIHL BGA 250 and Toro Flex Force 51827 round out a strong podium, each with their own strengths for different use cases.
