BENU Euphoria Earl Grey Review: A Fountain Pen With Tea in Its DNA

A first look at the BENU Euphoria in the Earl Grey colorway: in-house materials, a smooth Schmidt fine nib, and a lifetime warranty worth knowing about.

Introduction

The BENU Euphoria in the Earl Grey colorway is a fountain pen that takes an unusual idea and executes it with real care: the resin itself contains bits of tea. This was my first pen from BENU, a brand known for making all of its own materials in-house, and the Earl Grey model turned out to be a strong introduction to what the company does differently.

Unboxing and the Details That Matter

BENU has recently moved to a compact, art deco-inspired box that is genuinely entertaining to open: the top panel flips out to reveal a thank-you card, a long international standard blue ink cartridge, and a printed use and care guide.

That guide is worth pausing on. It covers the company’s history and name, its materials, how the pens are made, and practical care instructions like filling, rinsing, and cleaning. It also includes full contact information and details of a lifetime warranty covering manufacturing defects. No QR-code-only shortcuts here; everything you need is printed on paper.

The pen itself sits in simple cardboard cradles with no felt lining, but the overall experience is clean, considered, and not overwrought.

Design and Build: Earl Grey in Resin Form

The Euphoria is one of BENU’s larger models and, by most accounts, its most popular. The Earl Grey material is the highlight: tea leaves are visibly suspended in the creamy resin, with deep blue sparkles nodding to the lavender often found in the tea blend. Because BENU makes all its materials in-house and does not sell them to anyone else, each design remains exclusive to the brand.

Build quality feels solid throughout. The resin is thick and dense, nothing like cheap plastic, and the rounded ends are polished so well that you cannot feel any of the embedded glitter. The clip is shallow but very usable, with a clever bit of flexibility that mimics a spring-loaded clip when pressed.

One small nitpick: the cap takes about two and a quarter rotations to uncap. That rules the Euphoria out as a quick note-taking pen, but it is hardly a dealbreaker for a pen aimed at longer sessions.

Nib and Writing Experience

Standard-size BENU pens ship with Schmidt nibs, and this example is a Schmidt fine with a standard plastic feed. A Schmidt converter comes pre-installed alongside the long cartridge, so the pen is ready to write out of the box.

Inked up, the fine nib writes very smoothly and fairly wet, with line width right where you would expect for a fine. Any feedback is purely audible rather than felt. The broad, shallow threads on the section are barely noticeable, even for writers who grip further back.

Paired with a dark, sheening ink like Lamy’s violet blackberry, the wet flow lets the gold sheen show through even at this fine line width. The pen is light and well balanced for its size; it essentially disappears in the hand, which is exactly what you want for journaling or writing out a letter over several pages.

Who This Pen Is For

The Euphoria suits writers who value comfort over long sessions, distinctive in-house materials, and a nib tuned for smoothness rather than crispness. It is less ideal if you constantly uncap for short notes or if loud, shimmer-heavy designs put you off, though BENU has recently introduced more muted colorways too.

Buying Advice

If you write a page or more at a time and want a pen that feels well built without being heavy, the Euphoria is an easy recommendation. The lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects adds real peace of mind for a resin pen this distinctive.

Conclusion

The BENU Euphoria in Earl Grey is a thoughtfully made fountain pen with genuinely unique materials, a reliably smooth Schmidt fine nib, and a surprisingly complete ownership package. For longer writing sessions, it makes a compelling case as a first BENU or a welcome addition to any collection.
