ASICS Nimbus Lite 3 Review: A Fun, Bouncy Daily Trainer Worth the Price
A bouncy Flight Foam midsole, 10 mm drop, and a stripped-down knit upper make the Nimbus Lite 3 one of the most pleasant surprises in the daily trainer category.
Introduction
Every so often a running shoe comes along that is hard to pin down. The ASICS Nimbus Lite 3 is one of those. It has a bouncy midsole foam, a 10 mm drop, and a comfortable partial knit upper. It is a bit on the pricey side, but it is versatile, durable, and genuinely fun to run in.
The comparison that kept coming to mind during testing was the Nike Epic React, a shoe that balanced daily training and faster running so well it worked for almost everybody. There has not been a true Epic React update, and the Nimbus Lite 3 feels like the closest thing to it right now. After a 10-mile first run with four miles at moderate pace, averaging 8:05 per mile, this shoe made a very strong first impression.
Who This Product Is For
The Nimbus Lite 3 works well for runners who want one, or maybe only two, shoes in their rotation. It is easy enough for long, slow miles but happy to pick up the pace when needed, which makes it a plausible candidate for racing a marathon in.
It also suits runners who miss the Epic React. Like that shoe, the Nimbus Lite 3 sits in an odd spot on paper: the stack height is not the tallest, the weight is a touch on the heavy side for a lightweight trainer, and the price is on the higher end. In practice, that combination just works.
Main Strengths
The standout quality is the ride. The midsole is squishy but not mushy, bouncy but not too firm. It absorbs road impact while giving a pleasant recoil, and it works well at both easy and moderate paces.

The upper is another clear strength. ASICS stripped it down compared to the Nimbus 24, removing many of the overlays found in other ASICS shoes, and the simple materials fit the foot really well. The knit tongue is exceptionally comfortable, and the whole package feels lightweight and nimble even at 9.2 oz.
Specs and Upper Feel
The numbers first: this is a 25 mm stack height shoe with a 10 mm drop, leaving 15 mm of Flight Foam in the midsole. Hidden inside is heel gel that is meant to be a little softer than ASICS gel has traditionally been, plus what appears to be a small ring of gel under the pad of the foot.

On the outsole there is plenty of strategic rubber coverage, which should hold up to a lot of miles. The engineered mesh upper is very comfortable and very stretchy. The fit is true to size with plenty of room for the toes while still feeling snug, and the gusseted knit tongue stays in place. The heel cup, carried over from the Nimbus 24, has soft cushioned padding and holds the heel securely without feeling tall.
How It Rides
The midsole here is standard Flight Foam, not Flight Foam Blast or Blast Plus, and ASICS offers three tiers of this foam family, getting lighter and bouncier as you go up. Yet the ride is surprisingly close to the excellent Nimbus 24, and it took some effort to remember the foams were supposed to be different.

The forefoot gel is noticeable at first, but after roughly the first quarter to half mile it settles into the midsole and stops feeling awkward. One difference from the Nimbus 24 helps here: the Trusstic system, the plastic shank used for stability, is gone. Combined with standard Flight Foam, that trade-off produces a controlled, firmer-feeling, yet bouncy midsole that works remarkably well.
Long Runs and Marathon Potential
This is an easy choice for long runs. It makes ticking off miles effortless, and if you need to pick up the pace it does not complain. Four miles at moderate pace felt natural, and the shoe seemed content to sit at that effort for an extended period.
The foam protects from impact while keeping the ride springy, which suggests real marathon range despite the stack height not being the tallest. For runners who want a single shoe that can handle the long run, the moderate-pace work, and potentially race day, this one deserves a spot on the short list.
Things to Consider Before Buying
Price is the main sticking point. It is a bit on the pricey side, and plenty of runners will grumble about that, though the shoe is fun and capable enough that the complaints tend to fade once it is on foot.

Weight is the other consideration. At 9.2 oz for a men’s size 9, this is not the lightest daily trainer, and it is hard to call it a classic max cushion shoe either. It is best described as a lightweight-feeling daily trainer. The heel padding is the first place ASICS could shed weight toward 8 oz, though it never gets in the way.
Buying Advice
If you want one shoe that covers easy miles, long runs, and moderate-paced work without complaint, the Nimbus Lite 3 is a strong pick. Durability also looks promising given ASICS’ typical build quality, and the strategic rubber outsole should stand up to plenty of miles.
Conclusion
The ASICS Nimbus Lite 3 is a versatile, durable, and fun daily trainer with a just-right foam feel and one of the more comfortable uppers around. It is not cheap, and it is not the lightest, but it checks a lot of boxes for a lot of runners and has a real shot at finishing the year among the top daily trainers. If you have been waiting for something in the Epic React mold, this is the shoe to look at.
