The Nike Alphafly 3 costs £284.99 or $285. It weighs 202 g (7.1 oz) for men in a size 8, with an 8 mm drop. The Nike Vaporfly 4 costs £239.99 or $270 and is noticeably lighter at 171 g (6 oz) in a men’s size 8, with a 6 mm heel-to-toe drop.
The Alphafly 3 keeps the elements runners expect from the range: dual Air Zoom units in the forefoot, notch laces, a wider carbon plate for stability, fully connected ZoomX foam for a smoother ride, and a revamped Atomknit upper for lockdown and breathability. It is also lighter than its predecessor. The Vaporfly 4 trims the outsole, midsole, and upper, removes around 5 mm of stack height compared to the Vaporfly 3, uses lighter ZoomX foam, and positions the carbon plate at a higher angle to work alongside the lower drop for propulsion.

Nike Alphafly 3
The Alphafly 3 has a restrictive, lean Nike-style upper made from a stretchy knit with a bootie design and no traditional tongue. It can be tricky to get on, but once it is on, it is very comfortable. The tester noted that with average-width feet, he is at the limit in this shoe; any wider and it might be a struggle, though the upper does have some give. Sticking to your usual size is the advice here.
On the run, it delivers the bounce, energy return, and propulsive kick you want from a carbon plate racer, which is why it remains the dominant choice for marathon runners. It has been used at the Boston Marathon with strong results over around 100 km of testing, and it works for essentially any distance. If a 5K PB is on the cards tomorrow, this is the shoe to pick, simply because it keeps the bounce and propulsion that shorter racing also benefits from.
腳感與推進力
This is where the two shoes genuinely separate. The Alphafly 3 is built for energy return and efficiency over long distances, with generous cushioning that holds up deep into a marathon. The Vaporfly 4, by contrast, feels very nippy and snappy, letting you pick your feet up quickly, but the tester found it offers less energy return and less propulsion than the Vaporfly 2, and simply not enough cushioning for a marathon. He described it as a shoe he would only use up to 10K, with most runners maxing out at half marathon at a push.

Nike Vaporfly 4
Nike’s aim with the Vaporfly 4 was a noticeably lighter shoe, and it shows. It feels light on the feet, almost like you are wearing nothing at all, and it genuinely is fast: the tester ran a mile race in it and found it extremely snappy. The engineered mesh upper with a reduced heel and tongue, plus a thinner rubber outsole, all contribute to the weight saving.
Fit is similar to the Alphafly but slightly more forgiving, with a bit more room in the midfoot and forefoot, though the upper is less stretchy. Again, stay with your usual size. For elites and seasoned runners, the lower stack may not be a barrier, but for more general runners it is a shorter-distance tool rather than an all-rounder. It is also worth noting that the Vaporfly 4 now sits closer in purpose to the shorter-distance Streakfly, which could confuse buyers looking purely for a 5K to 10K racer.

耐用度與外底
Outsole durability is impressive on both, given how little rubber carbon racers carry. After around 100 km including the Boston Marathon, the Alphafly 3 looked surprisingly good, with good grip and only minor midsole wear on the outside edge consistent with the runner’s style. The Vaporfly 4, over about 40 km, is holding up too, though there is a small sign of rubber coming off. The forefoot rubber on both is a surprisingly thick layer with good grip and tread. This is a welcome contrast to the Vaporfly 3, where the heel rubber reportedly tore off within 5 km.

購買建議
Choose the Alphafly 3 if you want the better all-round race shoe. It handles everything from 5K to marathon and delivers the bounce and propulsion that make it so popular on the start line. Choose the Vaporfly 4 if you race mostly shorter distances, want the lightest and snappiest ride possible, and do not need big cushioning for the back half of a race. If you are deciding purely between these two, distance is now the deciding factor: the Alphafly is the long-distance shoe, and the Vaporfly 4 is a short-to-mid-distance specialist.
結論
The Alphafly 3 is the stronger overall pick because it can do everything, while the Vaporfly 4 has earned a specific, focused role in shorter races. Match the shoe to the distance you actually race and you will be happy with either.
