Wurkkos HD01 Review: A Flat EDC Flashlight That Gets Almost Everything Right
The Wurkkos HD01 packs a laser, side light, and 1,200-lumen main beam into a slim, pocketable body with USB-C charging and a well-designed interface.
Introduction
Over the past year or so, flat flashlights have become a defining trend in the EDC space. The appeal is obvious: a slimmer, flatter body is much easier to carry in a pocket, and it disappears far less than a traditional cylindrical torch. The Wurkkos HD01 is the brand’s take on the format, and the approach here is clear: pack as many features as possible into a very small platform.
The result is a light that does almost everything right. It is compact, well built, and loaded with features that most people will actually use, with a user interface that holds it all together better than most.
Who This Flashlight Is For
Before getting into the details, it helps to understand the format. Most flat flashlights like this use a built-in lithium polymer battery, which might sound like a drawback. In reality, that battery is rated for hundreds of charge cycles. By the time it wears out, newer technology will likely be available, and you are far more likely to lose the light or dunk it in water than to simply run the battery into the ground through normal use.

The HD01 charges over USB-C, which matters more than it seems. One of its closest competitors, the Arkfeld Pro, uses a proprietary charging system, so the HD01 is easier to top up on the fly with whatever cable you already carry. The Wurkkos is also noticeably smaller than the Arkfeld, which is a genuine advantage for daily pocket carry.
Main Strengths
The standout feature set starts with the laser. It is surprisingly bright, brighter than the Arkfeld Pro, which was already an improvement over its previous generation. Better still, the HD01 lets you run the main light and the laser simultaneously using independent controls, so you can point something out at a distance and light up the area around it at the same time. That combination is exactly what you want from this kind of tool.

The side light adds serious versatility. A double press activates flood mode with three brightness levels: 1 lumen, 25 lumens, and 180 lumens. The 1-lumen mode runs for roughly 70 hours, and the 180-lumen mode lasts around 2 hours. Wurkkos also offers colored emitters, with a ramping mode that cycles through red, green, blue, and purple. Triple-clicking gets you strobe modes, including police flash, an RGB waterfall, and droplets. It is more than most people will ever need, but the options are there.
The main beam is no slouch either. Turbo hits 1,200 lumens, which is genuinely strong output for a light this size, and a long press gets you moonlight mode. A magnetic tail lets you stick the light to metal surfaces and angle it as a small work light, and a reversible pocket clip means you can wear it on a hat brim as well.
Things to Consider Before Buying
Two drawbacks are worth weighing. The first is the placement of the side light. Because it sits on the edge rather than the face of the light, you lose some hands-free usefulness. If it faced forward, clipping it to a collar would give you a headlamp-style forward light for a wide range of situations. As it stands, it feels like a missed opportunity for a future revision.

The second is waterproofing. The HD01 carries an IP65 rating, so it handles rain and a quick dunk-and-rescue without issue, but it is not a submersible light. For an emergency light you might want IP67 or IP68; for everyday carry, it should be perfectly adequate.
The Interface: A Kitchen Sink Done Right
With this many features, the interface could easily be a mess. It is not. One press from off turns the light on with mode memory, a double press jumps to turbo, and a hold gets you moonlight. Strobe and SOS functions are tucked away behind triple presses, far enough out of the way that you will not activate them by accident, and a single press always gets you out.
The side light buttons reset to their base functions when the light is turned off, so stray modes never carry over. This is one of the better interfaces seen on a feature-packed EDC light, and the functions are hidden cleanly enough that the kitchen-sink approach never gets in the way.
Buying Advice
If you want a flat EDC flashlight with a laser, a useful side light, strong turbo output, and easy USB-C charging, the HD01 is arguably one of the best flat flashlights currently on the market. The magnetic tail and reversible clip round out a package that handles work-light duty, hat-mounted use, and everyday pocket carry without drama.

If submersible waterproofing is a hard requirement for your use case, or if you specifically want a forward-facing hands-free side light, those are the two points where the HD01 falls short of ideal. For everyone else, it is close to a home run.
Conclusion
The Wurkkos HD01 is compact, light, feature-rich, and easy to live with, backed by one of the cleaner interfaces in its class. The laser and main light working together is a genuine highlight, and the few trade-offs, like the IP65 rating and side light placement, are easy to live with for everyday carry. For anyone shopping the flat flashlight category, it belongs at the top of the shortlist.
