Willow Craft Goods Knox Minimalist Wallet Review: Clever Design, Premium Leather
A vertical minimalist wallet in full grain vegetable tanned leather, with an integrated leather pull tab and no flap.
Introduction
The Knox minimalist wallet from Willow Craft Goods is one of the more interesting designs we have seen from the brand. It combines a number of the company’s signature elements into a single wallet, but with one major change: the flap that appears on almost every other Willow wallet is gone, replaced by a snap system and a new integrated leather pull tab.
It is a vertical-style minimalist wallet made from full grain vegetable tanned Doo leather from the Caneria Walpier Tannery in Italy, and like everything from Willow Craft Goods, it is made in the USA. At $99.99 for the original version, it is not cheap, so the question is whether the design justifies the price.
Unboxing and First Impressions
The Knox arrives in a black fabric pouch, and the packaging clearly lists what you are getting. Our unit is the original Knox, though a wide version is also available at roughly $115 if you need extra capacity.
Out of the pouch, the wallet feels substantial immediately. This is not a flimsy piece of leather; the Doo leather is firm, and the hand saddle stitching and riveted construction give it a handcrafted, durable character. Under normal use, this feels like a wallet that could last a lifetime.

Build Quality and Materials
The Knox is made from full grain vegetable tanned Doo leather, a firm leather known for its flat pebble textured grain. Our review unit pairs a Bordeaux and black Doo leather combination with cream-colored thread and silver hardware, and the brand also offers brass hardware if you prefer that look.
The stitching is hand saddle stitched, and it looks clean and consistent throughout. Rather than burnished edges, the wallet relies on cleanly cut leather pieces, and the cuts are neat and well finished. From a quality standpoint, it earns a thumbs up.

Design: Two Pieces of Leather, One Clever Pull Tab
The design is where the Knox really stands out. The wallet is made of only two pieces of leather, but it is not obvious at a glance. The front Bordeaux piece wraps around, is split, and is riveted into the black inner piece. That black piece also wraps around the inside, and is cut into a strip that forms the integrated leather pull tab.
That pull tab is genuinely new. Leather or fabric pull tabs on wallets are usually a separate piece of nylon or elastic sewn in somehow, but here the tab is cut from the wallet’s own leather and integrated into the middle pocket. Pull it, and all of your cards and cash come out at once, which makes fanning your cards and grabbing bills effortless.
There are three pockets total: a single front pocket for a credit card, a rear pocket for cards or cash, and a main center pocket with the pull strap. The center pocket is the natural home for the bulk of your cards and bills.
One small discovery worth sharing: rather than prying the wallet open, squeeze it near the top and it pops right open. It is a convenient trick that becomes obvious after a few days of carry.
Pocket Layout and the AirTag Trick
The front pocket is designed to hold a single card, but it doubles as something else. A circular cutout at the front works as either a thumb slot to push cards up, or as a home for an AirTag. We chose the AirTag route and left the front pocket otherwise empty.
That is worth doing deliberately. Putting a card in the front pocket along with an AirTag makes the pocket very stiff, and the card will rub against the tag, creating friction. If you dislike anything rubbing against your cards, keep the front pocket card-free or AirTag-only.
Similarly, the rear pocket has rivet points that can create friction with a single card. Cash in the back, or doubling up cards so only the top one contacts the rivets, avoids the issue.
Everyday Carry Setup
In daily use, a setup of seven cards and ten bills folded in half carried without a problem. One effective arrangement: the most-used credit card in the rear pocket, where the large cutout makes grabbing and stashing it easy, and everything else in the center pocket behind the pull tab.
When you need full access, pull the tab and all your cards come out at once. Do the fan method, and all of your bills are right there in view. It is a fast, satisfying way to use the wallet.

Variations and Hardware Options
The Knox comes in several variations. The version reviewed here uses a snap at the top, which has grown on us during testing. Other options include a loop where you can string a lanyard, a D-ring for attaching keys, or no attachment at all.
For the color combination, the Bordeaux and black Doo leather with cream thread is attractive, and while silver rivets look sharp, brass hardware would arguably pair even better with this colorway.
Capacity Test: How Much Can It Really Hold
Willow Craft Goods states the Knox can hold up to 12 cards or 30 bills, or any combination of the two. In testing, we loaded the wallet as far as it would go and settled on 10 credit cards and 15 American dollar bills as a practical maximum.
At that level, the wallet becomes very stiff. The front pocket is nearly impossible to use with a card inserted, the squeeze-to-open trick no longer works, and retrieving a rear card requires prying. Realistically, you would not carry this much day to day, and the leather will break in over time, but it is good to know the structure holds up under a full load.

Things to Consider Before Buying
At $99.99, the original Knox is firmly in premium wallet territory, and handmade leather wallets in general have been creeping up in price. You are not getting a cheap flimsy product by any means; the Doo leather feels substantial and the hand saddle stitching should hold up for years.
There are also minor friction quirks to be aware of: the stiff front pocket if you combine a card with an AirTag, and the rear rivet points against a single card. Neither is a dealbreaker, but detail-oriented users should plan their pocket usage accordingly.
Buying Advice
If you like the pebbled grain look, the Bordeaux and black Doo leather combination is a great choice, though other leather options are available if it is not to your taste. The wide version at around $115 makes sense if you carry more bills or cards regularly.
For anyone who values handmade quality, USA-made construction, and a genuinely original design, the Knox is easy to recommend. You get what you pay for here.
Conclusion
The Knox minimalist wallet is another winner from Willow Craft Goods. It combines standout features from the brand’s other wallets, drops the flap in favor of a snap system and an innovative integrated leather pull tab, and wraps it all in excellent full grain vegetable tanned leather with on-point craftsmanship. It is pricey at $99.99, but the design and build quality back it up.
