Wildflower Leather Yosemite Vertical Wallet Review: Handmade Leather With a Topographic Twist

A hand-stitched vertical bifold made in Los Angeles, with two complementary leathers and an engraved Yosemite topography design. Here is how it holds up.

Introduction

The Yosemite Vertical Wallet from Wildflower Leather is a handmade vertical bifold built in Los Angeles from two different leathers sourced from Wickett and Craig. It stands out for its engraved topography design inspired by the landscape of Yosemite National Park, and after living with it for a while, we came away genuinely impressed by the craftsmanship. Here is what you need to know before buying.

Build Quality and Materials

Wildflower Leather uses two complementary leathers here. The exterior is an olive English bridle full grain vegetable tan, while the interior is a buck brown full grain vegetable tan harness leather, both sourced from Wickett and Craig. The contrast between the muted olive exterior and the warm brown interior is one of the wallet’s best visual features.

Construction is hand crafted and hand stitched in Los Angeles. In inspection, the cuts look symmetrical, the stitching is flawless all the way around the exterior, and the burnishing and polishing of the edges is excellent, smooth and even on both the outside and the interior card pockets. One small note: the wallet has very little leather smell. It is not unpleasant, it simply has almost no scent at all, which may matter to buyers who love that fresh leather aroma.

Design and Pockets

This is a modern vertical bifold that takes inspiration from the traditional bifold format. Inside you get four stacked vertical card pockets, each with a shallow semi-circular cutout that makes cards easy to remove, plus two hidden pockets underneath the card pockets. The semi-circular cutouts are subtle but genuinely useful for pulling cards out quickly.

There are no pockets on the outside, which keeps the look clean but means there is no quick-access card slot. There is also no dedicated cash compartment, so cash carriers will need to use one of the hidden pockets. That may be a dealbreaker for some, though for this style of wallet it is a common trade-off.

The signature design element is the Yosemite topography engraving on the exterior. It is not printed or drawn on; it is etched into the leather, likely by laser, which adds a subtle texture that feels pleasant in hand. The only branding is a small “Wildflower Leather handmade in Los Angeles” mark on the inside bottom corner.

Card and Cash Capacity

In testing, each of the four card pockets comfortably handled two flat cards, for a total of eight cards. With just one card per pocket, the wallet stays perfectly slim, and the hidden pockets are the better place for extra cards since they do not bulk up the wallet. More cards than eight are certainly possible in the hidden pockets, but the wallet is at its best around four to six cards.

For cash, eight folded dollar bills fit into a hidden pocket without issue, though they do stick out slightly. It is not the most elegant cash-carrying solution, but it works. If you are primarily a cash carrier who wants a dedicated compartment, look elsewhere.

Size and Weight

Closed, the wallet measures 3.5 by 4 inches, and it weighs 2.1 ounces, about 58 grams. That is a compact footprint for a bifold with six interior pockets, and it slides into a front or jacket pocket without adding noticeable bulk.

Things to Consider Before Buying

  • No dedicated cash compartment: cash has to live in a hidden pocket.
  • No exterior quick-access card pocket: everything is stored inside.
  • Very little leather smell, which some buyers may miss.

Buying Advice

If you prefer vertical bifolds over horizontal ones, carry a handful of cards rather than a thick stack, and appreciate hand-crafted leather with a distinctive but tasteful design, this wallet is an easy recommendation. Wildflower Leather is a fairly young company, reportedly founded in 2019, and the quality on display here suggests they take their craft seriously. Cash-heavy users and anyone who wants quick exterior card access should think twice.

Conclusion

The Yosemite Vertical Wallet combines top-notch craftsmanship, two beautifully contrasting leathers, and a unique engraved topography design into a slim vertical bifold. Its limitations, the lack of a cash compartment and exterior pockets, are inherent to its minimal design rather than flaws in execution. For the right kind of carrier, it is a genuinely appealing everyday wallet.
