Tactile Turn Stealth Review: A Stealthy Titanium Bolt Action Pen with a Tritium Surprise
Tactile Turn's latest seasonal release swaps the Side Click formula for a bolt action, adds a tritium finial, and wraps it all in a tough black DLC-coated titanium body.
Introduction
Tactile Turn has been running a seasonal release program for almost a year, and every release so far has been a variation on the company’s Side Click model. The latest seasonal pen, the Stealth, changes that pattern. It is a bolt action pen built around an aviation and low-detection theme, and it brings a genuinely interesting feature set to the table: a titanium body with a black DLC coating, a tritium finial option, and a clip with multi-depth engraving.
One thing worth understanding before you consider buying: the Stealth is not a classic limited edition. Instead of capping the number of pens, Tactile Turn sells it for a set window of roughly two months and keeps producing to order during that period. Once the window closes, the pen is retired for good. Sales for the Stealth are set to end on December 31st, after which it will no longer be produced. The pen is available only through the Tactile Turn website.
Design and Build: DLC-Coated Titanium
The Stealth is made from titanium and finished in a very tough black DLC coating on both the body and the clip. DLC stands for diamond-like carbon, a class of carbon material that shares some of the hardness properties of diamonds, which is exactly what you want in a durable pen coating. The company describes the pen as inspired by the balance between impressive achievements in aviation technology and the innovations behind remaining undetected and flying under the radar.
It arrives in a sliding drawer box that includes a metal information card explaining the inspiration behind the pen, complete with small perforated holes. It is a far nicer touch than a paper manual and gives the unboxing a bit of ceremony.

The Stealth comes in three sizes: the standard at 5.6 inches (about 141 mm), the short at 5.1 inches, and the mini at 4.4 inches. The standard model weighs roughly 35 grams, and the size range should cover most preferences, from a full-length desk pen feel down to a genuinely pocketable format.

The standout feature sits at the top of the pen. Embedded in the finial is a tritium gas tube, the same self-powered illumination technology used in emergency exit signs, wristwatches, and gun scopes. Unlike glow-in-the-dark materials, tritium emits light continuously and should keep doing so for over 10 years. It is a low-intensity, reliable glow rather than a bright beacon, and it is genuinely visible in the dark.
The tritium finial is an optional add-on. Tactile Turn originally estimated about 25% of buyers would choose it, but initial sales showed roughly 75% opting in, forcing the company to scramble for extra capsule inventory. That appetite tells you something about how well the feature lands.
The Bolt Action and the Signature Groove
This is the first seasonal release to move away from the Side Click mechanism. The bolt action operates smoothly with a hint of tension in the travel, the kind of feel that invites fidgeting. The bolt itself is treated with Cerakote, a thin ceramic coating that resists chemicals, heat, and scratches. The bolt and the finial carry a subtle pop of color against the all-black body, and it works: the accent adds to the pen’s sharp looks rather than distracting from the theme.

The clip is another highlight. It features multi-depth engraving, with a deeper radar screen engraving at the bottom, a fitting nod to the stealth theme. On the underside of the clip, you will find the company name and the year of production. The date is deliberately hidden, a subtle way of dating the pen that long-time pen fans will appreciate.
Like most Tactile Turn pens, the Stealth carries a single machined groove running the length of the barrel, similar to the groove on a record. It provides a very solid grip, feels great against the side of the palm while writing, and does an excellent job of hiding the transition from barrel to section, making that junction virtually invisible. It also gives the pen a distinctive tactile quality that encourages absentmindedly running a thumb across the barrel.
Writing Performance and Refills
Refills vary by size. The standard model ships with a Pilot G2 0.7 mm gel refill, one of the most dependable gel refills available and a favorite for anyone who prefers gel ink over ballpoint or rollerball. The short model comes with a Schmidt EasyFlow 9000 in medium, and the mini uses a mini version of the same Pilot G2 refill.

In use, the standard Stealth with the Pilot G2 writes smoothly and reliably, with the solid grip from the barrel groove making longer writing sessions comfortable. The bolt action deploys quickly once the motion becomes muscle memory, and the overall balance suits everyday note-taking as well as quick signatures.
Buying Advice
All three sizes of the Stealth are priced at $179, with the tritium finial available as an additional $50 option. If the tritium glow appeals to you, it is worth adding at checkout: the adoption numbers suggest most buyers agree, and it is the feature that most clearly separates this pen from the rest of the bolt action crowd.
Because the Stealth is a seasonal release with a hard sales end date, the usual wait-and-see approach does not really apply here. If you like the design and the size fits your hand, buying within the window is the only way to get one. After December 31st, it will be gone for good.
Conclusion
The Tactile Turn Stealth is a well-executed departure from the company’s seasonal formula. The DLC-coated titanium body, the smooth bolt action, the engraved clip, and the optional tritium finial all reinforce a coherent theme, and the Pilot G2 refill keeps the writing experience practical. For anyone in the market for a tough, distinctive everyday carry pen with a genuinely unique glow feature, the Stealth is well worth checking out before its sales window closes.
