A redesigned minimalist-style bifold with a full-size cash compartment, dual card pockets, and hand-stitched Horween Dublin leather, made in the USA.

Introduction

Speak Easy Leather has built its reputation on minimalist wallets, but not everyone wants to give up the traditional bifold feel. The Bodhi Version 3 is the answer to that. It is a redesigned take on the Bodhi Dual Card Wallet, aimed at people who miss carrying a more substantial wallet in their pocket while still wanting a modern layout. After a few weeks of everyday carry, it is easy to see why this one stands out.

What the Bodhi Version 3 Offers

The Bodhi Version 3 is a modern-style bifold with two internal card pockets that hold up to 12 credit cards combined: five in the top pocket and seven in the bottom. An optional outside quick access card pocket adds up to two or three more cards depending on thickness, which brings the total capacity to around 14 to 15 cards. The headline feature is a brand new full-size dedicated cash compartment, so bills no longer need to be folded in half.

The review unit is handmade from full grain vegetable-tanned Horween Dublin leather, though the wallet is also available in Badalassi Carlo leather. Everything from Speak Easy Leather is handmade and hand-stitched in Cleveland, Ohio, and the leather measures 2.5 mm, just over 6 oz weight. Dimensions come in at 4 by 3 inches closed, 0.61 inches thick when empty, and 3.1 oz (88 g) on the scale. Yes, it is a thick wallet, but that is by design.

Design and the New Cash Compartment

Compared with the slimmer Bodhi Dual Card Wallet, the Version 3 is noticeably chunkier, and that is intentional. The maker wanted something more substantial for people who miss a meaty bifold. Both card pockets feature a large thumb push on either side to cycle cards out, plus a semicircular cutout for easy grabbing.

The cash compartment is the smartest part of the redesign. A connected cash bridge centerpiece presses against the bills when the wallet is closed, holding them firmly in place, and an open cutout design gives clear visibility of the front bill without prying the wallet wide open. A thumb slips right in to pluck out a bill, which makes it a genuinely convenient design for cash carriers.

The quick access card pocket on the front is a small $15 upcharge, but it is worth considering: it keeps a most-used card within instant reach. The top interior pocket can also be swapped for a vinyl ID window if you prefer, though that affects card capacity. Branding is minimal, with a single new keyhole-style stamp in the front corner and nothing else.

Build Quality and Leather

Quality here is excellent. The hand saddle stitching in polyester thread looks on point, all the cuts are very clean, and the hand burnishing is highly polished, exactly the kind of finish that separates handmade wallets from factory ones. The Horween Dublin has a smooth grain and a distinctive scent reminiscent of old baseball gloves.

It is worth noting that the Horween Dublin version is a small batch that is not currently listed on the website, where Badalassi Carlo is the standard option. If there is enough interest, another small run of the Dublin version may return, so asking the maker directly is a reasonable move for fans of that leather.

Everyday Use: Cash and Card Demonstration

Loaded with seven cards and seven bills, the wallet performs exactly as the design promises. Cards pull out easily from the top thanks to the semicircular cutouts, and the thumb pushes make it simple to cycle through and pick a specific card from the back. The front quick access pocket leaves plenty of room to grab and return a card quickly.

The cash experience is the standout. Push a forefinger behind the bills and the whole stack slides out without opening the cash compartment fully. Even for someone who mostly uses credit cards and only carries cash for emergencies, the layout feels genuinely functional rather than decorative.

Things to Consider Before Buying

If a slim minimalist bifold is the goal, the Bodhi Dual Card Wallet is the better pick. The Version 3 is deliberately thicker at 0.61 inches empty, and while weeks of pocket carry showed it was not a burden, it is definitely noticeable in a good way, never disappearing or triggering that moment of panic when you cannot feel your wallet.

Price is a bit higher than most Speak Easy Leather wallets, and the quick access pocket adds a $15 upcharge, but the extra work, 6 oz Horween Dublin leather, and hand saddle stitching justify the difference. You get what you pay for here.

Buying Advice

Choose the Bodhi Version 3 if you want a traditional-feeling bifold with modern touches: full-size unfolded cash storage, generous card capacity, quick access options, and handmade USA craftsmanship. Choose the Bodhi Dual Card Wallet if you prioritize a slimmer profile and are happy folding bills in half.

Conclusion

The Bodhi Version 3 is a thoughtful redesign that keeps the best features of the Bodhi Dual Card Wallet and adds a genuinely useful full-size cash compartment. With second-to-none build quality, a distinctive leather option, and practical everyday usability, it is an easy recommendation for anyone who misses carrying a proper bifold.
