Sofirn SR23 Review: A Balanced All-Rounder Flashlight with a UV Twist

A well-rounded EDC flashlight with a rubberized grip, a beefy pocket clip, adjustable brightness modes, and a wide UV light, with one notable weak point around the charging port.

Introduction

The Sofirn SR23 is an all-new release that positions itself as a middle-of-the-road flashlight that simply does everything well. Rather than chasing record-breaking brightness or extreme throw, it focuses on balance: a comfortable grip, useful modes, a wide beam, and a bonus UV light. After spending time with it, one clear weakness stands out, but the overall picture is positive.

Build, Grip, and Everyday Carry Feel

Right out of the box, two details stand out. The body has a nice rubberized grip, and the belt clip is genuinely beefy, something you rarely see done this well on flashlights in this space. It is easy to pull out the battery and accessories, and the box includes the usual extras: wrist straps, a charging cable, and a couple of other small items. Nothing out of the ordinary, but everything you would expect is there.

Modes and Ease of Use

The mode system is one of the most pleasant surprises here. Instead of the usual low, medium, and high steps, the SR23 lets you scroll brightness up and down. Click once to go down, click again to go back up, so you can dial the light in exactly for the task at hand. Double-clicking jumps you straight into turbo mode for instant maximum output. It is all super easy to understand, which makes the light pleasant to live with day to day.

Specs and Battery Life

The spec sheet on the body claims a weight of a little over 3 ounces without the battery, which is a slightly odd number given the battery will be inside at all times. Claimed throw ranges from 9 meters at the lowest setting up to 200 meters, and that upper figure is decently accurate in a completely dark, open field with no other lights interfering.

Battery life is solid for the size. Sofirn claims about 4.5 hours on high, which is notably better than many lights in this class, and 23 hours on low. The output range spans from around 5 lumens on the ultra-low setting up to a claimed 3,300 lumens at the top end, with the regular low setting sitting around 1,100 lumens. All the usual specs you would expect from a flashlight like this are present.

Beam Quality and Real-World Light Output

In use, the beam design is arguably the highlight. It gives a good amount of light that is nice and wide and nice and bright without the light being overly bulky. Even the lowest usable setting is bright enough to easily see your steps while walking in the dark, and turbo delivers an instant jump to full output when you need it.

The UV Light: A Genuinely Useful Extra

The SR23 also includes a UV light, and it is more than a gimmick. It has a decent amount of UV output and, crucially, a wide beam, which makes it practical for checking white fabrics, stains, and anything else that fluoresces. It is a nifty feature that sets this light apart from more basic all-rounders.

Things to Consider Before Buying

The one real complaint concerns the charging port. The rubber cover over the port does not inspire confidence: toss the light in a pocket a couple of times and that cover can start flipping up, leaving the port exposed. Sofirn claims an IP68 rating, but with pressurized water jets hitting the light from all angles, at least one stream is going to hit that port area, and unless the port itself is fully sealed, severe water intrusion is a genuine risk.

Buying Advice

If you are not planning heavy-duty use in mud, dirt, or heavy rain, the SR23 is a decent fit for almost any situation you want to throw at it. It is less suited to extreme outdoor hiking where serious water exposure is possible, purely because of the charging port protection. For everyday carry, home use, dog walks, and general tasks, its balance of grip, modes, beam, and battery life makes it a solid deal for what it is.

Conclusion

The Sofirn SR23 is one of the more well-balanced flashlights to appear this year. It does not do anything crazy in terms of extreme brightness or extreme throw, but it does everything at a good level, and the wide UV light is a welcome bonus. Keep it away from sustained heavy water exposure, and it is an easy recommendation as a do-everything everyday flashlight.
