Sin City Leather RRap Pack Version 2 vs Version 1: Which Handmade Minimalist Wallet Wins?

A side-by-side look at Sin City Leather's RRap Pack Version 2 and Version 1, two handmade minimalist wallets from Las Vegas with nearly identical functionality and a few meaningful design differences.

Introduction

Sin City Leather, based in Las Vegas, builds its wallets by hand, and the RRap Pack line is one of its most interesting minimalist designs. The Version 2 refines the earlier Version 1 with a handful of thoughtful changes. We carried the Version 2 for about three weeks with seven cards and 15 bills, then compared it side by side with the Version 1 to see what actually changed and whether the upgrade is worth it.

What Sets the RRap Pack Version 2 Apart

The RRap Pack Version 2 is a vertical minimalist wallet with four total pockets: a front card pocket, a middle card pocket, a cash compartment in the back, and a quick-access card slot at the very back. Everything is held together with a side flap and a brass snap. Measured, it comes in at about 3 inches long (76.1mm), 4.06 inches end to end (103.2mm), and just 1.6 oz (44g).

The most visible change from Version 1 is the front design. Instead of the angled cut used for card access on the original, the Version 2 has a large plunging cut across the front, and the flap uses a straighter cut rather than a curved one. There is also an optional extra piece of leather on the flap, and a “Made in the USA” stamp sits inside the plunging cut, a nice touch that looks great.

One detail worth knowing: after three weeks of carry, the optional leather piece on the flap started showing small indents from the thread where it presses against the top leather when snapped shut. It is invisible when closed, but it is something to consider if you are deciding on that optional flap piece.

Pockets and Functionality

The Version 1 has three pockets: one in the front, one dead center, and a cash compartment in the back. The Version 2 keeps all three and adds a quick-access card slot in the back, which makes a real difference in day-to-day use. In practice, one card lives in the quick-access slot, the bulk of the cards sit in the middle pocket where you can fan them out, and bills fold in half into the cash compartment.

The quick-access back slot alone would be reason enough to prefer the Version 2. That said, the original remains a strong option: custom orders are available from Sin City Leather, so it may be possible to have a Version 1 built with a similar back slot. Functionality is otherwise almost identical between the two.

Craftsmanship and Leather Quality

Both wallets are handmade and hand stitched in Las Vegas, and the quality is genuinely excellent. The sample Version 2 pairs a dark brown Balasy Carlo Manura vegetable-tanned leather on the outside with an ocean blue La Britania Gao oil vegetable-tanned leather inside, stitched in blue thread. Leather and thread color choices are customizable.

On the Version 2, the stitching transitions from a saddle stitch to a cross stitch where the top of the two front leather pieces join to form the front pocket. It does not change functionality at all, but it looks cleaner than where the Version 1’s stitching stops at the angled cut. Edges are burnished and finished, the inside of the leather is finished on both wallets, and the stitching throughout is flawless. The Balasy Carlo leather also has an outstanding natural smell that is hard to beat.

Everyday Carry Test: Cards and Cash

With seven cards and 15 bills folded in half, the Version 2 carries comfortably and there is plenty of room left. Cards in the middle pocket come out easily with the fan method, the quick-access slot works exactly as you would hope, and the cash compartment opens without fuss.

Stress testing pushed it to 12 cards and 20 bills folded in half while still snapping shut: 10 cards in the middle pocket, one in the front pocket, one in the back quick-access slot, and 20 bills in the cash compartment. With more breaking-in, it could likely hold even more.

A smart carry trick carried over from the Version 1: you do not need to open the flap to get cash. Bills can be pulled out from the top front and slipped back in the same way, which makes the wallet significantly more functional for anyone who uses cash daily.

Version 1 or Version 2?

Functionally, these two wallets are nearly identical, and quality is exactly the same on both. The choice mostly comes down to aesthetics and the quick-access card slot. The Version 2’s plunging cut, cross stitch detail, and optional flap leather give it a more refined look, and the back card slot adds everyday convenience. The Version 1 is simpler, slightly cheaper, and still beautifully made.

Buying Advice

Pricing has been around $85 for the RRap Pack Version 2 and $80 for the Version 1, so the upgrade is only a small premium, though prices fluctuate, so check current pricing before buying.

If you want the quickest possible access to a daily-use card and prefer the cleaner modern front design, the Version 2 is the easy pick. If you like the original angled cut and want to save a few dollars, the Version 1 remains a superb wallet, and a custom order could potentially add the back slot anyway. Either way, you are getting the same high standard of handmade craftsmanship.

Conclusion

The RRap Pack Version 2 earns its place as the more complete version of an already excellent minimalist wallet. The quick-access card slot, refined front cut, and cross stitch detail push it ahead, while the Version 1 stays relevant for anyone who prefers its look or wants the lowest price. Whichever you choose, the handmade quality from Sin City Leather is not in question.
