Sin City Leather Aries Review: A Handmade Shell Cordovan Wallet With a Challenge Coin Pocket
A vertical minimalist wallet handmade in Las Vegas from Tuscan shell cordovan, with a dedicated front pocket for showing off a favorite challenge coin.
Introduction
Some wallets impress on the first look, and the Aries from Sin City Leather is one of them. It arrived in a box with gold foil lettering and a handwritten-style thank you card from Jose, the maker, which sets the tone before you even touch the leather. It is a vertical minimalist wallet handmade in Las Vegas, Nevada, from black marble Rocado shell cordovan sourced from Tuscany, Italy, and after extended pocket time it has climbed to the top of the list of favorite wallets.
Design and Layout
The Aries is a vertical-style minimalist wallet with one pocket for cards and a dedicated rear cash compartment sized for bills folded in half. Everything is held together with a strap and a snap, and a front pocket is designed to hold a challenge coin. Measured out, it comes in at 2.85 inches wide by 4.10 inches tall (72.5 mm by 104 mm), with leather roughly 1.5 mm thick, just under a 4 ounce shell cordovan. On the scale it weighs 1.5 ounces, or 42 grams.

There is no quick-access card pocket on the back, which keeps the look clean even with the strap and rivets. The only branding is a small Sin City Leather stamp on the bottom left of the back, and nothing else, which is a welcome touch of restraint.
Build Quality and Materials
This is the kind of wallet where the craftsmanship is immediately visible. The shell cordovan used here is one of the rarest leathers in the world, and the black marble finish gives it a distinctive depth that is hard to photograph badly. The wallet is hand saddle stitched with Vinymo thread, which is extremely strong, and all the edges are hand burnished to a clean finish.

The snap on the cash strap has a satisfying amount of tension and feels high quality, and two rivets reinforce the back of the strap. Not every Aries is made from shell cordovan; Sin City Leather offers other leather options that bring the price down, but the cordovan version is the premium expression of the design.
The Challenge Coin Pocket
The large front coin pocket is the signature feature here. It was initially carried with a smaller skull challenge coin, which fit nicely, then swapped for a much larger copper dragon coin. That large coin filled the pocket beautifully, with the copper looking striking against the black marble leather, but it stretched the pocket noticeably. Switching back to the smaller coin afterwards left it sitting loose.

The lesson is simple: start with a smaller coin and work your way up. Once stretched by an oversized coin, the pocket may not shrink back for smaller options. If you plan to stick with one large coin, though, the oversized look genuinely works.
Everyday Carry Experience
In daily use, the Aries was carried with seven cards in the single pocket and 13 bills in the cash compartment. That is about the practical maximum; at 13 bills the cash pocket bulges a bit at the bottom, and anything more would be pushing it. Card carriers can mix and match, trading a few bills for additional cards.
The open-top card pocket is the real functional advantage. With the most-used card sitting at the top of the stack, pulling out the stack and grabbing that card takes seconds, and the large thumb cutout makes reinserting easy. Despite the open top, the cards do not fall out in normal use. There is a slight pinch point at the bottom of the pocket that keeps them in place, and only a hard shake would dislodge them.

Cash access is the trade-off. You need to unbutton the strap to reach the bills, so if instant cash access matters, this is not the wallet for it. But for riders who carry cash mostly for emergencies, the strap is a non-issue, and the slick shell cordovan lets bills slide in and sit beautifully.
Buying Advice and Pricing
The Aries in non-shell-cordovan leathers runs about $75, while this black marble shell cordovan version is around $170. That is a premium price, but it reflects one of the rarest leathers in the world and fully handmade, hand-stitched American construction. If the cordovan is out of budget, the standard leather versions keep the same design at a friendlier price.
The only real caution, beyond the price, is the coin pocket: do not start with an oversized challenge coin, or you risk stretching it permanently.
Conclusion
The Aries is one of the better wallets for anyone who wants to display a favorite challenge coin, and a genuinely excellent vertical minimalist wallet on its own. It leans toward card carriers, though 13 folded bills alongside seven cards is entirely workable. With handmade construction, superb stitching, and standout marbled shell cordovan, it earns its spot in the everyday carry rotation.
