Shark’s latest flagship robot vacuum, the PowerDetect UV Reveal, brings a genuinely new idea to the category: a UV light that helps the robot spot stains invisible to the naked eye. When it detects those residues, it triggers an extra mopping pass to break down proteins and leftover grime. It is a clever concept, and in testing it proved to be one of the most capable robots Shark has released to date.

The PowerDetect UV Reveal is a vacuum and mop combo robot that comes with a bagless base station and several high-end automations. It sits at the top of Shark’s robot lineup with a list price of about $1,300, although it can often be found on sale for less.

We ran this model through a range of tests covering vacuuming, mopping, obstacle avoidance, battery life, and dock features. The results show a robot with real strengths, but also one significant trade-off that buyers should understand before committing.

Who the Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal Is For

This robot is aimed at households that want a single device to handle both vacuuming and mopping with minimal hands-on maintenance. The bagless auto-empty dock, washable filters, and self-cleaning mop station all point toward a hands-off experience.

It is also a strong fit for pet owners. In testing, the vacuum handled pet hair pickup exceptionally well, scoring well above average and above Shark’s previous flagship model. If you have shedding pets and hard floors or carpets, this robot should handle the daily fur buildup without much fuss.

The UV stain detection is another feature that will appeal to anyone who wants a deeper clean on hard floors. The robot actively hunts for residues that would otherwise go unnoticed, then goes back over those spots with a second mopping pass.

That said, the high water output means this robot is not ideal for homes with delicate hard floors that are sensitive to moisture, or for anyone who dislikes waiting for floors to dry after a mopping cycle.

Vacuuming Performance: Strong on Hard Floors and Carpets

The PowerDetect UV Reveal uses a single main brush and a fixed side brush, paired with Shark’s Edge Detect technology. That system uses blasts of air to push debris from edges and corners into the robot’s suction path. The design is essentially the same as the earlier Power Detect 2-in-1 flagship, and the two robots scored very closely in many vacuuming tests.

In basic sweeping tests, the UV Reveal did a great job removing debris of many different sizes from both hard floors and carpets. Performance carried over into the carpet deep-clean test, where fine grit is embedded into medium-pile carpet and removal is measured. This model scored a high 88%, very similar to the Power Detect and significantly better than the average robot in the test data.

Pet hair pickup was another highlight. In testing, 2.5-inch hair was flattened onto carpet to mimic real-world conditions, and the vacuum performed exceptionally well, scoring well above average and above the Power Detect Pro.

The suction and airflow bench test numbers sit at or near average, and are very close to the previous flagship in both tests. So while the UV Reveal does not push the envelope on raw suction, its real-world cleaning results are consistently strong.

Obstacle Avoidance: A Big Step Forward

One of the most impressive improvements on this model is its obstacle avoidance. The robot uses an RGB camera and 3D sensors, powered by Shark’s new NeuroNav AI, to detect and avoid objects in its path.

In testing, the system performed extremely well. Between standard tests and a torture test, the UV Reveal successfully avoided 20 out of 24 total objects. That is a massive improvement over the older Power Detect and the highest score ever recorded on a Shark robot.

For households with cables, shoes, pet bowls, and other floor clutter, this level of avoidance means fewer stuck robots and fewer interrupted cleaning runs. It is a meaningful upgrade that makes the robot easier to live with day to day.

Battery Life and Navigation: Efficient Coverage

Battery life was another big win for the UV Reveal. Its efficiency in studio tests was much higher than average and more than doubled the score of the original Power Detect. The LiDAR-based navigation system also delivered an efficiency score around the average, another improvement over the older model.

With solid navigation and excellent battery performance, the Shark UV Reveal can cover an estimated 2,930 square feet per charge. That is a huge jump over its predecessor and makes it suitable for larger homes that need extended cleaning runs without frequent returns to the dock.

The Dock: Hands-Off Automations and a Bagless Design

The dock is one of the robot’s major advantages, offering a lot of hands-off automations. A standout feature is the bagless auto-empty dustbin, which is still relatively rare on robot vacuums. Bagless designs are preferred by users who want to reduce ongoing consumable costs, and many of the dock filters are washable, further lowering maintenance expenses.

There is also an odor-neutralizing module to keep the dock and dustbin smelling fresher between empties.

The mop washing station cleans the pad with 185°F water (85°C) and dries it with 175°F air (79°C). The robot can also leave its mop pad at the dock for vacuum-only runs, which helps keep carpets dry when you do not want any mopping involved.

Mopping Performance: Clean Floors, but Very Wet

The UV Reveal uses a flat mop pad and introduces Shark’s hypersonic mopping, which vibrates at a very high rate, said to be seven times faster than the previous flagship. In addition to mop removal, the pad can lift 20 mm to protect carpets.

The headline feature is the UV light, which helps detect residual stains for multiple cleaning passes. In the dried-on coffee test, the system performed very well, scoring 183 points, far above the average of 94. Floors do come out very clean, and the UV detection genuinely adds value for tackling stubborn residues.

But that high cleaning score comes with a significant trade-off. The biggest issue, and the one that hurt its ranking most, is extremely high water usage. On the lowest setting, it left more than three times the average amount of water. On medium, it reached five times the average, tying for the highest water penalty ever recorded.

Because of this, its combined mopping score was very low. In testing, floors remained noticeably wet, and in some cases it took over 30 minutes to fully dry. Part of the issue is the flat mop pad design, which is harder to wring out than spinning pads or rollers. Over time, the pad becomes saturated and can start dripping.

Even after manually squeezing out the pad and running the robot on the lowest setting, it still left nearly 4 grams of water on the floor, which is very high by testing standards and prone to streaking. On the plus side, floors do come out very clean. If streaking is not a concern for you, this may not be a dealbreaker.

Things to Consider Before Buying

Beyond the water usage, there are a few other drawbacks worth noting.

Anti-tangle performance was below expectations for this price point. In testing with 7-inch hair, about 29% wrapped around the brush. That is similar to the Power Detect and around average overall, but at this price level, better hair handling would be expected.

The robot’s height is also worth noting. At 4.1 inches (104 mm), it may struggle to fit under some low-clearance furniture.

The Shark app remains a weak point. App functionality is limited, with minimal customization options, no mop zones, and no advanced room controls. It also lacks multi-level mapping, which many competitors offer. This continues to be an area where Shark lags behind.

Threshold climbing is another smaller issue. It is rated for 1 inch (24.5 mm). In testing, it cleared 19 mm easily but failed at 25 mm, just above the stated limit. So that 1-inch threshold should be considered a firm cap.

Buying Advice

After combining all test scores and features, the PowerDetect UV Reveal is the best robot vacuum Shark has released to date. It made it into the Top 20 robot vacuum list, the first Shark to do so in over a year. Competition is strong this year, but Shark made clear progress with improved obstacle avoidance and solid vacuuming performance.

If you can tolerate the higher water usage, the UV Reveal is currently the best option in Shark’s robot lineup. It suits households that want strong vacuuming, excellent pet hair pickup, and a hands-off dock experience, and that are willing to accept wetter floors after mopping cycles.

For anyone with moisture-sensitive flooring or a strong preference for quick-drying mopping, it may be worth weighing those needs against the robot’s other strengths before making a purchase decision.

Conclusion

The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal is a genuinely impressive flagship robot vacuum. Its vacuuming performance is strong across hard floors and carpets, pet hair pickup is excellent, obstacle avoidance is the best Shark has ever delivered, and the bagless dock adds real convenience.

The UV stain detection is a clever and effective feature that helps deliver very clean floors. The trade-off is the high water output, which leaves floors wet for a long time and can cause streaking.
