Pocket Hoarders Picks: Gear, Bags, and Everyday Carry Worth Wanting
From a magnetic AirPods case to a custom MoonSwatch, these are the fun, unnecessary-but-irresistible picks from our latest haul.
Introduction
Some gear is essential. This is not that gear. This is the stuff you don’t need but will probably still really want, and honestly, that’s a perfectly valid way to spend money. From satisfying magnetic cases to portable triple-monitor rigs and a custom MoonSwatch build, here’s what made it into the haul this time around.
Alumu Geo AirPods Case
If you hate losing your AirPods, just put a door on them. That’s the entire thesis behind the Alumu Geo case, one of the few AirPods accessories that doesn’t look like it came free with a knockoff smartwatch. The premium packaging sets the tone, and inside you get precise cutouts, a peep window for the status light, and the main event: a clicky magnetic door that opens and shuts like a Zippo. It’s low-key addictive.
The case is wrapped in thick soft-touch rubber, and the curved edges actually hug your fingers. Unless you throw it across the room, your AirPods stay tucked in like a perfectly wrapped burrito. The Tron-like cyberpunk aesthetic won’t be for everyone, but the colors genuinely hit, and since AirPod 4s don’t come with a lanyard hole, Alumu added one and made it look good in the process.

JOX Flipco Horizon
This isn’t just a triple monitor setup, it’s a portable productivity flex that folds up like a tactical briefcase. The JOX Flipco Horizon is a dual monitor setup that lives on the back of your laptop, turning any table into a full desk setup. When you unfold it in public, people will assume you’re hacking into NASA.
Setup is refreshingly simple: slide out the arms, let the magnets snap everything into place, and with a MacBook it just takes two USB-C cables and some minor fiddling in the settings. The hinges hold angles impressively well, the magnets survived some very unscientific poking, and teardown packs everything back into its exact spot like adult Lego. There’s an optional MagSafe phone mount too, and stack mode with two vertical monitors is editing heaven if you’ve ever cut video on a 13-inch screen.

Leica x Aether Reporter Jacket
Our first Leica, and it’s a jacket. In collaboration with Aether, the Reporter jacket is made with a wax fabric finish, comes with a whistle on board, and nails that “I feel like a reporter” energy. First impressions from our in-house photographer: stiff at first but very cozy, and genuinely comfortable even with a camera on your hip.
The real appeal is storage. It obviously stores a lot, which is exactly what you want from a jacket designed to live around cameras. If you like the field-jacket look but want something with proper photography DNA, this is an easy one to want.

Black Ember Grip Sling Camera Kit
New bags in the studio from Black Ember, because magnets. The Grip Sling camera kit is chunky, but it can hold its own. It comes with a fully padded camera insert, and if you remove it, there’s a ton of space left over. Waterproof zippers keep the weather out, and the padded back pocket fits a 14-inch MacBook.
The front panel is our favorite part: a magnetic cover with a fully tucked-in zipper, a quick access pocket, a magnetic keyring, and a giant sleeve pocket for daily essentials. Rotating joints and a quick-adjust strap make it sit comfortably on the body even when fully loaded. If you carry a camera, a laptop, and too many small items, this sling handles all three without complaint.
Gerber Flux Alpha Utility Knife
The Gerber Flux Alpha might be the favorite of the new knives in house. It’s a utility blade auto, which is pretty self-explanatory, and the futuristic design does a lot of the talking. At about average pocket-knife size, it opens to reveal a scalpel-style blade, and then, bam, the auto mechanism does its thing.
The aluminum version is reasonably affordable, and there’s also a titanium version that’s just as fidgety. Alongside it, the EAB Mini and EAB Slim are essentially super-thin box cutters you can fit in a pocket, with the Slim adding a heavy-duty look, a belt clip, and even a bottle opener. If you like tools that are both useful and fun to click, this family covers it.
Wuben X4
Lights on lights on lights. The Wuben X4 is one of those small metal objects that’s actually useful, and there’s just something about holding a solid piece of machined metal that feels so good. It’s a fidgeter’s dream too: switches, buttons, rolling, and clicking, plus it’s magnetic, has a giant clip, and uses batteries.
For anyone who lives in the pocket-tool world, this is the kind of light that earns its place. Solid build, multiple light modes, and enough tactile interaction to keep your hands busy during boring meetings.
Tactile Tune 16-Bit Pen
Tactile Tune makes some of the best pens out there, and this seasonal release leans fully retro with a 16-bit theme in classic purple, complete with an eject graphic. It’s available in three sizes, and while our favorite is the average-size one, they’re all just as fun to play with and just as smooth to write with.
If you’re the type who clicks pens through every meeting anyway, you may as well click one that looks like it came off a game console.

Moon Mods MoonSwatch Metal Case
This one’s for the watch enthusiasts. If you love the look of the Speedmaster but can’t afford the original, Moon Mods takes the dial from an original MoonSwatch, swaps it into a metal case like the real thing, and even includes the original strap. The result is essentially a budget Dark Side of the Moon with the look and feel of a metal case, working buttons, and a fraction of the cost.
From afar, you can’t tell the difference, and the all-black design is genuinely game over. We paired it with a thick, cushiony aftermarket strap with a quick-release system, which suits it perfectly. Custom engraving is available too.
Final Thoughts
None of these are things you need. All of them are things you’ll want. The Geo case turns a boring accessory into a fidget toy, the Flipco Horizon makes working from anywhere actually viable, and the Moon Mods build delivers a dream watch look without the dream-watch price. Pick the one that matches your daily carry habits, and try not to buy all of them in one sitting. We failed at that, so you don’t have to.
