Playmaker 101 vs Armada ARV 100: Two Playful 100mm All-Mountain Freestyle Skis

Two newcomers in the 100mm all-mountain freestyle category, compared for playful riders, tree runs, soft snow and the occasional park lap.

Introduction

Two skis are generating a lot of buzz for the upcoming season: the LINE Playmaker 101 and the Armada ARV 100. Both are newcomers in the 100mm all-mountain freestyle category, and both are aimed at the same kind of skier: someone with a playful style who likes to mess around on the side of the trail, hunt for softer snow, blast through the trees, and maybe even squeeze in a park lap here and there.

What These Two Skis Have in Common

The similarities are honestly striking. These two skis feel very close, and the differences are subtle. They are both soft flexing skis throughout, with a playful feel close to a traditional twin tip. Both have a kicked-up tail, so if you want to ride switch, take park laps, or simply prefer a more balanced feel, either option works.

For anybody with a more playful style, both of these skis will do the job well. The real question is not which one is good and which one is not. It is which flavor of good fits your skiing.

LINE Playmaker 101: The More Stable Pick

The Playmaker 101 is the ski with a bit more beef towards the center of the ski. That extra substance underfoot makes it feel a little more stout and a little more stable throughout. If you are ripping groomers, straight-lining through chopped-up snow, or searching for soft snow, it just feels a bit more substantial underfoot.

This is the ski for the playful skier who still wants solid performance across the rest of the mountain, not just off the sides of the trail.

Armada ARV 100: The Playful Option

The ARV 100 sits on the more playful end of this pairing. If your time is spent entirely on the side of the trail, surfing soft snow and hunting sidehits, the ARV is just fine. The trade-off shows up at speed: if you try to really bomb down the hill, the ARV can feel a little nervous compared to the more stout Playmaker.

If your priorities lean toward freestyle freedom rather than high-speed stability, this is the one that matches that style best.

Which One Should You Buy?

The decision comes down to where you spend your time. If you have a more playful style and you live on the side of the trail, the ARV 100 is all you need. If you want good, solid performance on the rest of the mountain too, the Playmaker 101 gives you more of that.

And if you are simply looking for a wider park ski, both of these are absolutely gas. Both have been skied in the park, and honestly the pick there comes down to which one you land your tricks on, which has nothing to do with the ski. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

Conclusion

The Playmaker 101 and ARV 100 are close enough that style should decide. Choose the ARV 100 for maximum playfulness off-trail, and the Playmaker 101 if you want a little more stability everywhere else on the mountain.
