Pachy G9 EDC Utility Knife Review: Titanium Build With a Gravity-Knife Twist

A compact grade five titanium utility knife with a unique gravity-style blade deployment and one of the easiest tool-free blade changes around.

Introduction

The Pachy G9 is a new, compact everyday carry utility knife that manages to feel genuinely fresh in a crowded category. It is built from grade five titanium, weighs almost nothing, and does something this writer had not seen a utility knife do before: open with a gravity-style action that makes it endlessly fidgety and fun to use.

After carrying it for roughly four weeks, the G9 has earned a spot among the most engaging EDC utility knives available. Here is what stands out, and what to weigh before pre-ordering.

Design and Build Quality

The G9 is a study in minimalism. Measured nose to end, it comes in at 3.12 inches (79.2 mm), with a width of 1.03 inches (26.1 mm) and a thickness of just 0.36 inches (9 mm). On a scale it weighs exactly 2 oz (58 g) with a razor blade installed, which is how most people will actually carry it.

The body is machined from grade five titanium, and the finish is intentionally slick. Pachy Design addressed the obvious problem with that choice: the ends of the handles are angled and textured on both sides, so your thumb gets a secure grip when spreading the handles open. That matters more than it sounds, because sweaty summer hands on polished titanium would otherwise make the knife frustrating to operate.

The Gravity Knife Action

This is the headline feature. Push the locking lever fully over, spread the two handles apart, and let gravity do the work: the blade mechanism drops into place much like a dedicated gravity knife. In daily carry it behaves the same way, whether you prefer the controlled gravity drop or a quick wrist flick.

It is also one of the most fidget-friendly mechanisms in any utility knife. The spring-loaded internals make the handles want to stay shut, so repeatedly opening and closing the knife becomes an oddly satisfying habit that you will find yourself doing without thinking.

Carrying It Every Day

For a knife this small, carry options matter. The G9 bundle includes a leather holster molded to fit the knife perfectly, with machine stitching and a nearly deep-carry pocket clip on the back. In the holster, it sits low and carries very minimal in a pocket.

The knife itself also has a lanyard attachment hole just above the locking mechanism for those who prefer paracord or a fob instead of the holster. Between the 2 oz weight and the slim profile, pocket carry is unobtrusive enough that you will forget it is there until you need it.

Blade Changes Made Simple

Blade changes are where the G9 truly shines. The rear lever has three positions: fully left locks the blade so it cannot deploy, fully right opens it for use, and dead center unlocks the two handles. Hold the handles open and the blade mechanism pops right out.

Inside, a magnet grabs the razor blade and holds it firmly. To install a fresh one, open the handles and the blade simply slides back into place. The knife ships with a Pachy-branded standard razor blade, and any standard razor blade fits, so sourcing replacements is effortless. Tool-free blade changes do not get much simpler than this, and it ranks among the best blade-change systems seen on a utility knife in a long time.

Things to Consider Before Buying

The G9 is still a pre-order product, with shipping expected in May 2024. On its own it costs $89, while the bundle with the leather sheath is $116. Pachy Design is a newer name, based out of Calgary, though it distributes gear from a Niagara Falls, New York location. Buyers should also be comfortable with the slick titanium finish, even though the angled textured ends largely offset it.

Buying Advice

If you enjoy everyday carry items with satisfying mechanical action, the G9 is an easy recommendation. The combination of grade five titanium construction, gravity-style deployment, minimal 2 oz carry weight, and genuinely excellent tool-free blade changes makes it one of the most fun utility knives to handle in recent memory.

Choose the bundle if you want the molded leather holster included; choose the solo knife if you prefer clipping it or adding a lanyard your own way.

Conclusion

The Pachy G9 stands out by doing something few utility knives attempt: turning a simple cutting tool into a gravity-action, fidget-worthy companion that still performs its core job beautifully. With easy blade swaps, compact dimensions, and solid titanium build quality, it is a strong pick for anyone who takes everyday carry seriously.
